This policy of virtual machines is too old...

Hello

My problem is accurately described by this KB problem:

KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/Search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 2034362 & sliceId = 1 & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & dialogid = 453338166 & stateId = 1% 200% 20453344210

When I want to start a Win 2000 Pro machine I get this message:

This virtual machine policies are too old to be run by this version of VMware. Contact your system administrator

I did what the KB: I found 3 lines policy.vm. ... and remove.

There was also a file host.vmpl I rename host.vmpl.old.

The message remains when I want to start this virtual machine.

I think my vm is an ACE machine and was created with Workstation 7.x.

There is an empty folder "ACE resources" and 2 small files ace.dat and the aceMaster.dat.

Today, before I upgraded to Workstation 9 I had no problem working with this machine.

So, what can I do?

Thank you

Klaus (H.D.)

It seems that you do not rename the vmpl - first try

My XP and Ubuntu Machines work fine

How do we change policies to get Windows 7 running again?

Edit the vmx file and delete all lines starting with policy *.
Rename the vmpl if there is.

  • ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. Virtual MACHINE works on old MBP and Win7 but not on new MBP [mid 2015 retina], speed or network problem?

    We strive to use our VM on the new retina MBP (mid-2015) with MacOS X 10.11 (El Capitan) but we had a problem starting from Oracle. If we first converted our ESX VM but once on the Mac laptop Oracle (v12.1.0.1.0 on WIN2012R2) does not open the database, error;

    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

Does not change us any setting on the virtual machine itself so services work fine. Network has set the IP with host only. Tried with Fusion 7.1 & Fusion 8.0.2 new Mac with nothing doesn't. Also with the different versions of the VM tools. Tried to remove the NIC in Fusion and recreate, don't sucses.

Funny enough the same virtual machine starts fine on PC (workstation 10.3.0 & Win7), MBP beginning 2011 (Fusion 7 & Mac 10.10) or ESX itself for Oracle opens the database!

That's why we think in the direction of the new MBP specific? speed or network issue? Ring the bells?

    Help appreciated!

Bottom line, this is a problem of Oracle who dislikes the MBP on a virtual machine.

    for reference;

Virtual MACHINE works very well on all platforms, but not on the latest MacBook Pro (retina, 15 inch, mid-2015). So, when you try to use sqlplus you might get the error that there is no such thing as SID. Earphone works very well, but the DB process does not record with earphone or work correctly also. But the process is running and a SID tnsping returns an OK. This isn't a problem of configuration Oracle as the VM and DB works well from the moment where you run the virtual machine on a PC or an old MBP. Either way, Virtualbox has the same problem so not a problem of Fusion.

I will record a deal with Oracle but I doubt that it is corrected.

  • Ubuntu wants to format partition - is this JUST the virtual machine?

I am trying to create a virtual machine of Ubuntu.  The installer has gone through a few steps and now gives me the warning below.  Can anyone confirm that it's ONLY formatting the virtual machine and NOT my drive hard mac?

    TIA,

ML (VMware Fusion, MacBook Pro, Mac OS 10.5.6)

If you continue, the changes below will be written on the disks. Otherwise, you will be able to make further changes manually.

ATTENTION: This will destroy all data on the partitions that you have deleted, as well as the partitions that will be formatted.  The partition of the following tables are changes: SCSI3 (0,0,0) (sda)

The following partitions will be formatted:

    #1 SCSI3 (0,0,0) partition (sda) in ext3

#5 of partition (0,0,0) (sda) as swap SCSI3

I am trying to create a virtual machine of Ubuntu.  The installer has gone through a few steps and now gives me the warning below.  Can anyone confirm that it's ONLY formatting the virtual machine and NOT my drive hard mac?

Unless you do something like a raw disk card (is not supported and you'd know if you created one), it is only referencing the virtual disk and your Mac files are safe.

  • Merge cannot make Boot Camp virtual machine: perhaps too many places of the VM?

I get the error message, well known in the VM library window "Bundle" & lt; pathname & gt; "" / Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot partition.vmware.vm Camp "is damaged and cannot be opened."   However, my problem is not solved by the solutions proposed elsewhere in this forum.

At the bottom of this post, I listed my host config and invited desired config.

Here is a brief history, followed by what happened when I tried the solution of WoodyZ published here.

    • I had Windows XP Pro SP2 on my Boot Camp partition, but somehow ended up 'inaccessible' SigmaTel audio device and the Leopard installation DVD could not repair it.  I imported this partition to Boot Camp in the Fusion as a virtual machine.  This virtual machine is now stored on the external hard drive in "/ Volumes/ExternHFS/_CCCnonBackup/virtualMachines/Boot partition.vmwarevm"+ Camp.»  This virtual machine still works when loading in the merger, but the sound does not work, nor made a called M-audio Transit USB connector.  That's why I decided to create a new partition in Boot Camp with a SigmaTel audio device cool.

    • There are Kubuntu and NetBSD virtual computers stored in another default folder: yangguizi/Users / / Documents/Virtual Machines /

    • Using wizard Boot Camp in Leopard, I erased my Boot Camp partition and then recreated with a new installation of Windows XP Pro SP2.  (By the way, I've formatted this partition in NTFS.)  This Boot Camp partition is the device of SigmaTel installed and accessible from the control panel.

So I wanted to make a virtual machine of the new Boot Camp partition.  When I opened the merger, I highlighted the new Boot Camp partition down and clicked on the arrow of comments are starting to the right.  A window saying "Vmware Fusion prepares your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine.  This may take a few minutes.  This will be possible once. "That window remained open for 45 minutes.  Finally, I closed merge by clicking the choice of menu to quit Vmware Fusion.

Thereafter, whenever I opened the merger, I saw the message "Bundle" / Users/yangguizi/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Machines virtuelles/Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Boot Camp partition.vmware.vm "is damaged and cannot be opened.' " next to the new Boot Camp partition.

When I highlighted this new Boot Camp partition in the VM library and you press the delete key, absolutely nothing changed, that I could see.  Right click on the list of this score showed that the menu choice 'delete' is gray.

Then I closed the merger, and then manually moving the file to the trash "/ Users/yangguizi/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines / Boot Camp / '.

The next time I opened the merger, a new icon for the Boot Camp partition has been displayed at the bottom, with the subtitle "Powered Off".  When I clicked on the icon start Guest, a new folder/Boot Camp / was created in the same place, and the never-ending open window showing "Vmware Fusion prepares your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine.  This may take a few minutes.  This will be possible once. " Blah, blah, blah.  If the cycle turned up.

I am at a loss what to try next.  Here are three assumptions about the problem:

    1. Fusion has been confused by the three communities during which I virtual machines.

  • Fusion has been confused by the fact that I have, potentially, two virtual machines called "Boot Camp partition".  The older is actually a virtual machine hard disk external.

  • When I installed XP in the Boot Camp partition, the external Firewire drive was running. Then installing Windows saw much more of partitions on which XP could in theory have been installed.  This may have confused merge somehow, even if I successfully installed XP on partition C, which was 32 GB.

  • Did fix you this problem?  Even if you haven't, what do you suggest me I try next?

    Thank you, Yang Guizi

Host hardware: 17 "MacBook Pro; 2.33 GHz cpu; 3 GB of ram; Boot Camp 32 GB partition formatted in NTFS. external hard drive with Firewire 800 interface, partitioned in an HFS volume + and an NTFS volume.
Host software: OS X Leopard 10.5.5; running VMware Fusion 2.0.1 build 128865; Tracks of partition Boot Camp newly installed Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2.
Software comments: I would like to convert the Boot Camp XP Pro SP2 in a VMware virtual machine.        Running VMs with Kubuntu and NetBSD since the hd internal.

You can just get rid of the all/Users/lincoln/Library/Application Support / directory / Machines/virtual VMware Fusion; It should all be recreated. The virtual machine to help naos is than the pretreatment of Boot Camp. You don't want to get rid of all the of them, the only one in the specified directory. For example, there is a blank template in Applications/VMware Fusion.app whence that of your home folder.

  • My machine is too old to run Windows 8?

I have an old OEM Office of as 2010.
Initially, it came with Vista Home Basic, but then I've upgraded to Windows 7.
The upgrade worked. The machine worked well.
So I guess he could manage Windows 8 too.
    It is an emachines t3656.
    The specifications are

    Intel® Celeron® 440 2 GHz

    POWER 250W
Max of 2 GB of RAM.

I put a 200 GB in there HARD drive
    Card mother SATA 3
Intel GMA 950 GPU support dx9

These specifications should be able to start at least right of Windows 8?
    Well, it's not start.
    I installed Windows 8 x 64 for 200 GB HARD drive.
Then when that I start the computer happened to step "peripheral Getting ready."

It will happen to 33% and then just crash.
The only installed hardware I have on the machine is all originally supplied with the machine, with the exception of the RAM card. I replaced the unit of 1 GB that it came with a 2 GB. Except that it's just the screen, mouse, hard drive, dvd drive, card reader, and cpu.
I checked the drive HARD seagate seatools and no error came.
I even put the HARD drive in my office today and it started normally.
None of the material is damaged because before I put Windows 8 on the machine, I turned it on just to see if it still worked and it started Windows 7 very well.
I was going to just throw this desktop computer because I already have a new, but instead of throw, I thought I could give it to my niece for her birthday.
    That's why I'm recovering.
    Any help?

    Hello

Yes, that material is way too dated to run Windows 8/8.1. The reason for which installation is probably defective is generally because there is simply no device drivers even near compatible for your hardware on Windows 8/8.1.

If in doubt, always run the wizard upgrade - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq

  • "this host is not no matter what networks of virtual machine, or you don't have the permission to access ' ESXi V4

I'm sure I'll be stupid on this one, but what does do to ensure that networks of virtual machine?  I get this message when I look at network/properties of a VM adapter 1.

When the virtual computer runs, my network card think the cable is disconnected.

I went to the host properties and of course there is a 'Virtual Machine port group"and a"VMKernel Port", both connected to my physical card.

I don't see anything obvious on the network are disabled or anything like that.

Please give me a hint?  Virtual machines to run it, but without any network connectivity.

    Thank you

    Joe

I had this on the virtual machines that I moved from VMware Server 2.0. I found that there is no entry for the "ethernet0.networkName" in the .vmx files Server 2 (and probably Workstation) do not seem to care and connect ethernet0 to the first configured network. ESXi 4 all confused. So for me, the solution was to add

    ethernet0.networkName = 'Hand Lan'

for each file .vmx before adding them for ESX. If you have already added the machine, you will need to remove it before you edit the .vmx file.

  • How to move a virtual machine to another host ESXi running when HA vCenter is not operational... !

    Hey

We have a few guests of ESXi running the 5.0.0 original version and some running the latest 5.1 U1 or whatever and the last vCenter to do this too.

the vCenter server is one of the hosts running 5.0.0 and these do not allow HA either active correctly. The problem is a known bug, and you switch to maintenance mode and do funky stuff on the cli to make it work. However, I just want to spend all my virtual machines off the old 5.0.0. hosts and on the new, as the 'old' will be dismantled. I can do all virtual machines by just when close them down and moving off, but I won't be able to do this in with the vm off vCenter vCenter!

can I turn off, connect directly to the ESXi host, remove it its inventory (this option exists even on the ESXi host live?) and save it to the new 5.1.0 host U1 and fire?

vCenter complain or fail when she returns to the top?

they share all the same warehouses of data, so I need to move the backend.

    thoughts?

    Thank you

    Roger

HA and vMotion (i.e. live migration) are two different things and are independent of each other, so if vMotion is configured correctly, you should be able to migrate the virtual machines (including the vCenter Server VM) to another host.

  • My mac is too old for Xcode 7?

    Hi guys,.

I am new to xcode, so don't know if this post on the dev forums or here - I would like to know if this belongs here.

I recently installed xcode 7 on my mid-2009 MBP 2.53 GHz/4 GB of RAM, that's already in El Capitan. I find that I have to wait minutes for the Simulator to appear and then restore the application (I'm new so everything I do now takes over buttons and screens of the empty application).

Is my machine simply too old, or is there something I can do to speed things along?

    Thank you!

  • Migrate virtual machines from HP G7(single host) for HP G8 (Cluster) without shared storage

    Hello

I have 2 esxi host (hp dl 380 G8) and put them in a cluster and other host esxi (dl 380 g7) and I have no shared storage and use local disks just now I must spend my VM G7 server a cluster of the G8 but I want to know I can join my cluster g8 g7 and migrate web vmware machines without any downtime?

I want to know can migrate without downtime with localdisk? I have no shared storage

    Best regards

    BAbak

can I join g7 to my cluster of the g8

You can mix into clusters hosts all desired, even Intel and AMD at least that you enable EVC on the cluster (of course, HA or DRS require shared storage compatible/CPU). However, you need not to have even just cluster hosts to migrate virtual machines through vMotion between them.

migrate web vmware machines without any downtime?

Don't know what this "web vmware' but yes, because ESXi 5.1, you can use"enhanced vMotion"to live migrate virtual machines without service interruption from one host to another, even without shared storage:

Migration with vMotion in environments without shared storage

The usual vMotion requirements apply. Also you can only live migrate virtual machines from the old host to the new hosts because of different generations of CPU (and back as long as you don't have bike powered virtual machines on new hosts).

  • List not updated virtual machines after the migration of the virtual machine to a different data store

My vSphere infrastructure 5 uses several data stores.

Two data warehouses are associated with NFS on different NAS shares.

I migrate VM to a data to another store.

The navigation data store, I see that the files are moved from the old data store to the new and that no file belonging to the migrated VM still does exist on the old data store.

If I look at the list of VMs on the old data store, I still see the old VM.

I see it in the list of the virtual machine on the new data store as well.

I checked that no .iso no pagefile is in the old data store.

How can I update the list of the virtual machine on the old data store?

Above all, how can I safely delete the old data store by ensuring that the virtual machine works very well on the new data store and I don't lose anything?

    Concerning

    Marius

This use of data store 'Phantom' is usually observed, if the current configuration of the virtual computer points to the 'old' data store (diskette, CD-ROM) or the virtual machine contains snapshots where - at the time where tone have been created - the VM has had these references. Once the snapshots are deleted from data store 'ghost' will go away from summary of the virtual machine.

  • Windows 2000 Pro system/disk physical conversion into virtual machine

Fairly new to the world of the VM and was directed to VMWare for possibly a problem for us.

We have a gentleman with an older system running Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) with a ton of software installed.  We put in place a new Win7 Pro system for him, but he won't Cross and reinstall everything (in addition to the time involved, some of the software is older and Win7 compatibility is probably a problem).

We were originally at a switch KVM allows you to switch between systems, but then I found in the converter and thought this would be a great solution for him.  My thoughts are to use the converter to create a virtual machine from its old system/hard drive and install Player on its new Win7 system, it can fire up to his old Win2000 environment when he needs to work - and we can empty the old physical system.

I have scanned through the documentation for converter and understood that I would need a version of Converter before 4.3 (like, 4.01 or earlier?).  Now, what should I install on it have to happen?

Do I need to set permissions on its legacy system to expose the discs on the network?

Can I get the old HD and connect it to the new system and convert this way?

Do I need to install something on the source and the host system to do this?

Once I can understand this point, we may need to conduct a number of other older systems, it keeps alive for the same reasons.

I guess I should ask first - is that what this application is designed to do?  Or it fits into another software solution?

Thank you very much for any information/guidance someone can provide - greatly appreciated.

(PS.  Please don't just live/link me to the documentation.  As mentioned, I went through that, and I'm not real familiar with the setting/process, so that really helped a lot.  Thank you once again.)

VHDs are used by VirtualBox and VirtualPC
    VMware uses the vmdk files

You start converter on the Win2000 and tell him to "convert THIS machine.
It then creates a vmx file plus a vmdk file.

On the Win7 host you install VMplayer or workstation, and then simply double-click the vmx file... If everything works as expected

  • Move virtual machines

I have 4 servers more alumni who have ESXi 4.0 installed on them with the free license to test.  All virtual machines are installed on the local hard disks.  My company has decided to turn this test environment into a production environment before you have the right hardware.  I now have my production environment with servers connected to a SAN and Enterprise license.  They run ESXi 4.1.  What is the best way to move my virtual machines of the old test environment to the new?

Welcoem to the Forums - I watch FastSCP and copy the directories holding virtual machines to the new environment and then add the virtual machine to inventory.

  • moving virtual machines from 3.02 to 3.5 - can they be postponed to 3.02 if something is wrong?

    I move a VM to esx 3.02 to a new host 3.5 u4 and a new SAN.

I use VMware converter to move the virtual machine, which seems to be a copy of the data files to the new data store.

If I need to move this VM host 3.02 because of problems, will host 3.5 no changes to configuration or data files that could prevent the cancellation of work?

(realize that there will be a copy of the virtual machine on the old san after export, but if the virtual machine runs for a few days and users have updated data etc. so I can not just run the virtual machine on the old san)

Apart from the version of vmtools change (which shouldn't be a problem either); you shouldn't have a problem at all, and if delta is a problem (going back) you can always convert the 3.5 back to 3.02.

  • Migrate the Virtual Machine Linux to ESXi

    Hi all

I have VMware Server 1 base on CentOS as operating system with a few VMs, VMS spot on my map of storage with NFS.

I start converting those VMs with vmware converter 4.0 beta, I convert ESXi virtual machine move to storage even but with iSCSI.

So far I have only converted machines Windows without problem, now, I try to convert the Linux (ContOS 5),

After the conversion, I try to turn on the machine, but get a "Kernel Panic"

    Impossible to mount the SYSROOT.

    Please see attach.

Until I find a solution I return to this virtual machine to the old vmware server 1 and then it works.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I don't speak of computer virtual SCSI controller, you can get to know that this process.

    (1) select the virtual machine.

    (2) right click go to properties.

    (3) select the Hardware tab, check for SCSI controller entry there you can see if it's the logic Lsi logic or bus controller.

Once again something that I want to confirm, during the conversion, you had a SCSI disk for this virtual machine.

    Thank you
