Reformat and re-install XP SP2 but now struggling with the updates. Windows Update does not work. Loading SP3 will fix this?

I have an Asus Essentio with Windows 7 Professional. Although the computer was working ok, I installed the FIX It Professional [I bought it to install on my computer to girls] for the interview. Since then, I had several problems with slow MSN Mail and slow performance. I uninstalled the product and to restore the computer to the date of installation of the software. My problem is that automatic update does not work anymore and when I try to next turn to the I get some really long file name is missing. I can not down load and reinstall Security Center because it will not only because it is included in Vista. I can't load it updates as the software that is designed to do this does not work. You must be at Service Pack 3 level before you can use Windows updates.

To determine which service pack is currently installed on your computer, follow these steps:

2. Copy and paste, or type the following command, and then click OK:

Restart the PC and try to install the updates again

or

Click Start.

Type regedit in the search field and press to enter.

On the registry change windows click on file and select import.

Navigate to the location where the fixme.reg file and select the file.

Click ok on the windows screen once the registry is merged successfully.

Restart computer and check if updates installs.

* We had system mechanic and I uninstalled it since I discovered that it corrupted my windows installer.

The same problem. Cloned old HD on a larger hard drive. Everything worked perfectly except NO indexing and update WITHOUT windows - the two recurring problems that seem to appear on the forums after a change of hard disk.
