thousands of empty partitions

Hello

There are thousands of empty partitions observed. Are all these necessary? These can be filed? If so, how?

Thank you

  • Length of long query on an empty Partition

    DB: 11.2.0.3

    OS: Linux, kernel 2.6.18

I have a large partitioned table containing XML documents stored in a clob column.  Apart from the clob column, there are 15 other columns (varchar, digital or date) in the table. Each partition has a storage space for the clob column and a storage space for the other columns.

    Table partitions: 28

    Rows in the table: 590,000,000

Table size: about 20 TB with 95% of that found in the LOB column column

Two of the partitions are currently empty.  Never had records inserted in it, the other had at one time given 40.000.000 records that have been deleted through a series of calls for deletion (not through a truncation of the partition).

When I run a statement select count (*) on each of these two empty partitions, the partition that was always empty returns immediately.  Same query on the other partition takes 20 minutes to return a number 0.  I have updated statistics on the newly empty partition.  The plan to explain to the two looks the same for operations but the cost is $ 197K for the always empty partition and the cost of the other is 2421K.  Is there something I can do to help Oracle realize that there are the same amount of data in each of these two partitions?

Of course - to truncate the partitions you deleted lines of.

Your query of 'count' seems to be a scan of table full-segment. Maybe he does this because there is NO index available that could be used. For example, an index on a column of heap does not include NULL values if the index cannot be used to count all THE rows. If you have a tip on a NOT NULL column Oracle could use instead the table analysis and that the index said Oracle immediately that there is no line.

A scan of table full-segment is exactly that: Oracle reads EACH block allocated in the segment. Until Oracle reads a block, there is NO WAY of knowing if there is no line in this block.

Thus a VACUUM table takes as much time to analyze as a complete picture that you discover.

Everyone can easily prove that for themselves by creating an example table with 10 million rows and do a count (*). Delete the lines (truncation) and count again. Same number of blocks means the same time.

Of course the first charge must be made twice and the second time since the first time there may be not all blocks in the buffer cache.

  • An empty Partition and system reserved Partition

Currently I have windows 7 and wanted to do a multi boot with Linux. I was looking at my system partitions and I drive C: and partition 16 GB vague and empty, a system reserved partition. What do these and I have to do something with them before attempting to create the multiboot?

    Hello

Scores of recovery to reinstall the operating system to a new State are normally between 5-19GBs.

    The system reserved partition, you touch not;

    http://www.howtogeek.com/192772/what-is-the-system-reserved-partition-and-can-you-delete-it/

This partition contains two important things:

    • The Boot Manager and Boot Configuration data : when your computer starts, the Windows Boot Manager starts and reads data from the start of the Boot Configuration database (BCD). Your computer starts the bootstrapper on the system reserved partition, and it starts Windows on your system drive.
    • Start-up files used for BitLocker Drive Encryption: if ever you decide to encrypt your hard drive with BitLocker Drive Encryption, the system reserved partition contains the files needed to start your computer. Your computer starts the system reserved partition unencrypted, and it will decrypt the main encrypted drive and start the system encrypted in Windows.

    See you soon.

  • Need to remove thousands of empty paragraphs

I imported hundreds of pages of documents in FrameMaker 7 Word, but the problem is that the user of Word used of the newline in all directions. So, I have thousands of white lines with empty paragraphs. Is there a way to delete these paragraphs empty all at once rather than line by line like I did?

    Sure.

You can search \p\p and replace it with nothing to catch two returns and remove them.

You can change the number of / p in the search field - if you have a lot, increase the number of 5, 6, or almost. Then, run the Saha & repeatedly.

And do so at the level of the book.

When you get towards the end of the cycle of destruction, will not now with all replace, because you can merge paragraphs if you're not caregul. Then go to a manual mode to finish.

  • What are thousands of empty folders in \AppData\Local C:\Users\ (user) for?

    Hello

I have noticed, in the \AppData\Local C:\Users\ (user), there are over 3000 records with weird names but nothing in it, well the few I checked.

    Example {0EC54162-684A-4BDE-ABF8-C39A4DE499C0}

    What is?

Would it not be prudent to get rid of them?

    Yes, you can remove them.

You are probably using Windows Live Mail or other program Windows Live Essentials.

These folders are created when you start one of the programs essential.

They must be created in a temporary folder and delete, but unfortunately they are not.

  • clear Ext hard disk partitions in El Capitan to return to a single

I have a disc of lightning (WDC) 2 TB ext.  I had it partitioned with 2 partitions - but now I want to use the entire disk as a single partition.

I searched the web a solution (re El Capitan) and found this solution below

BUT whenever I have to erase partitions and then as soon as the volume test to find the space by removing the partition - but the sign less is grayed out and only the sign is available.

I did the operation to clear the partition and then tries to take over the space of the volume - as suggested - but I can't do it if it is grayed out!

I lost hours tonight - can someone please help?

    Thank you!

    ------------------------------

    Step 1: Partition Erase

To begin, open disk utility while searching for it using Spotlight or find in Applications > utilities.

Then click on the partition that you want to remove in the left panel.

    Screenshot by Matt Elliott/CNET

With your selected partition, click the clear button in the upper part of disk utility. This will bring up a window with a clear button. Click Remove , and then click done.

    Step 2: Delete Partition

With your partition erased data, you should always delete the now empty partition in order to reallocate space for the rest of your hard drive.

    Screenshot by Matt Elliott/CNET

To do this, select your hard drive in the left panel and then click on the button at the top of the disk utility Partition. In the graph of the pie on the left, click on the corner that represents the partition you just deleted. Click on the button "-" and then click apply.

Are the partitions involved "OS X Journaled" format?

  • Satellite Pro C660 - 21(d): question about the partitions on the HARD disk

    Hello

    I just started using my new satellite pro c660 - 21 d

    My office has drive c, d, u, s
    C either windows 7, Vista D
The drive U is 342 meg in size

I didn't have the disk in two 230 gig drive so thoughtless narrowed C drive of 70 GB and D drive with 10 gig (it's the primary recovery partition

I have now two empty partitions of 170 Gig (from c drive)
and 214 Gig (from d drive)
But windows will only allow me to add one as a disc of the user
He says may not have more than 4

The reason for being there is a partition of Active recovery without letter.

I can't unshrink drive C or drive D then I went with 170 GB of unused space.

I guess that a solution would be to lose the data disk 10 gig that contains the recovery software but then I don't have a backup.

Suggestions as to what I could do to work around this problem.

I am now under the Create recovery disks (2 of them) so maybe I could remove one of the partitions after.

I don't know why he answered instead of edition, but if the recovery disc creation complete with no errors, I can remove the hard drive?

  • Satellite Pro C850-1GU - need info about partitions

    Hello

I just bought this computer and I was check s settings, when I found that there are 3 partitions from disk:
    (1) recovery partition 1.46 don't Go no file system
    (2) hand to 451,55 NTFS partition
    (3) empty partition 12.75 go no file system

After reading several posts and user manual which has not informed me before g33k mode and play with the settings of Toshiba I wanted to know

    (a) once create recovery disks I can delete the partition (1)?
    (b) partition (3) seem to be empty, what he drank s?

(> a) once create recovery disks can I delete the partition (1)?
No, because it's the standard Win 7 partition that is created automatically by Windows 7. It usually contains files that are used for self-system repair its not desirable to delete this partition.

(> b) partition (3) seem to be empty, what he drank s?
I guess that its HARD drive recovery partition. It contains the files on HARD drive recovery and create recovery discs.
I would not also to recommend delete, but if you really want to remove it, you can do because the use of the recovery disk would create this partition again.

  • After creating the new partition Boot Camp of fixation

Hi, I tried to resize my Windows 10 bootcamp but changed my mind, when I deleted the empty partition without title and will reboot my computer to start with Windows, it does not appear (I pressed the option key alt is told by the way). So a way to solve this problem of boot camp after having created a new partition? I deleted this partition empty, just to let you know again.

    Thank you.

  • Professional W7 x 64 Tecra A11-128: 1.45 GB boot partition

    Hello

I'm about to reinstall W7 Professional x 64 and my partition tool shows me, that the Toshiba factory installation consists of:
    * one * boot partition * 1.45 GB size (most are empty)
    * the * root partition * 289 GB (storage of operating system and other things OEM)
As I intend to reinstall the same version of W7 (using the W7 license), I see no reason to keep the boot partition (BitLocker for Ultimate...).
Does anyone know why the boot partition which is supposed to be 100 to 200 MB at the most, that is great?

What all simply let down that partition and reinstall W7 Professional x 64 in a new preformatted, empty partition?
In this way, the Windows installation should not create a boot partition and just use a primary partition.
Are there any additional (Toshiba) tools using the partition start hidden and if so, which?

    Thank you for your ideas!

In my opinion all these partitions and the whole structure of the partitions is not so important if you want to install own OS.
Create a recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. These recovery disks, you can use for installing the OS where you want to have the factory (out of the box) settings again.

When the recovery disks are created, you can do whatever you want. Delete all partitions, create a clean partition and install Win7 professional. Configure the second or the third partition, depending on your needs, optimize the operating system preinstalled and be happy.

This is my only idea. I did the same thing in the past, I did it on my Satellite A660 and I will do this in the future.

    Remove the hard drive partition

  • Impossible to return to a single partition after the removal of bootcamp

Hi, I have a Mid 2009 macbook air I used Bootcamp with windows 7.

I now do not want plus the windows partition and have deleted the partition but I can't remove it and return to a single partition. He won't let me not resize the main volume and don't lead me with one?

The windows partition disappeared and I find myself with the free space, but can not resize the partition apple to use the space.

    Can anyone help?

If i ' right n in this reading, you want to add the empty partition to the OS X. I don't think that this is possible. The only thing you can do is a clean install of the OS X after you wipe and merge together.  I always do a clean install on a USB. Let me know if you need instructions.

  • Pain of the partition

I tried to free up space on my windows 10 round-trip partition to my Mac OS X 10.10.2 partition. You used to be able to do this in start up amps or disk utility, simply by dragging the sliders, I'm sure... I couldn't make it work on Mac I looked online and read somewhere that Windows 10 could do it natively.

In Windows 10 o management disk resized the bootcamp partition to free up space. He then created an empty partition, so I headed to OS X, but he doesn't seem to see in disk, surprised at 10 Windows utility, I thought if I formatted in fat32 os X would be see and be able to reclaim the space.

It is then the sh * t hit the fan:

    -cannot start in os X

    -cannot start Windows 10

When the startup screen is black for a long time, then the machine tries to book Windows but says that there is no bootable media (or something similar).

I have tried the command + R to load line/utilities assistance, but disk utility recognizes all partitions, but can't seem to do anything with them, remove or repair etc. It is said he cannot make changes to the Starter card (apologies not exactly mssage (s) have subsequntly been drinking to numb the misery of it.) Am away from home, it's not any bootable media or backups with me.

Basically, I broke the Guild card I think but because everything is grayed out in use it, I can't erase all partitions (if that's what I do).

could someone please give me some advice? -It will be possible to record data on the os X partition? (Not so mind on Windows 10)?

    Thanks in advance

It has never been supported. Please see Boot Camp: resize the Windows partition . Snow Leopard has been a little more forgiving, but not many others.

Windows has no idea, he is running on a Mac and crushes the Mac EFI.

Use OS X: on OS X Recovery - Apple Support and recovery of the Internet start-up. Find a 16GB Flash drive, if you can and How to install OS X on an external drive connected to your Mac - Apple Support and booting from it. Boot from the external drive, and we can inspect the internal drive for their valuation.

  • Help to remove the partition on a hard drive and data recovery

I have two hard drives in my PC, the C: drive is 80 GB, and the F: drive is 120 GB.  The second drive (120 GB) is divided into two partitions.  I just deleted the partitions and makes the hard drive again in a single disc, however I had some important files on the F: drive that I thought I had copied to the C: drive but they are not there.  Is there anyway that is using the software I can return the drive to two drives and recover my data, please help

    Hello

First of all, do not use the hard drive. This can make things sunk. A few things may already be unrecoverable. I would even delete the drive letter to stop inadvertently automated processes to use.

There are two ways I can think of.

    1. buy a partitioning software disk that supports the undelete partition. On windows XP PartitionMagic was a very good product if symantec will still sell it. Given that Symantec has continued to develop, I had to switch to product partition Paragon. Sound was trash to some things, cloning in particular a double boot with loads of partitions - it has an undelete function which I didn't use. The fact that you have created a new partition could mean that the restoration may not work. You may need to delete the current, probably empty, partition everything first and then perform the restoration.

    2. buy a data recovery software that will scan the hard drives, including the unpartitioned space. I chose R-Studio and it was very good stuff even recovery from hard drives that fail. It was not 100% effective, but it is perhaps down to the severity of failure rather than the product. In situations like yours, it was very effective.

Please mark this as useful or response if applicable.
