Thunderbird continues to crash to CAUSE Windows 8: hardware acceleration?

I'm about to give up Thunderbird. I am using it happily for years, but since his arrival in Windows 8, it became a nightmare... constantly hung at apparently random times or accomplish different tasks.

I spend hours on these forums and a dozen other sites, try every possible solution, I could find, but the bottom line is, TB is simply not compatible with Windows 8. There are simply too many bugs now for anyone to say that it is.

It's a brand new facility on a new machine and the hanging began almost immediately... so I doubt that there was much is corruption of file or folder, but just in case I compacted & boxes repaired letters and records from the trash, I fixed the profile folders and tried dozens of different settings as suggested to examine these issues.

I don't use McAfee Anti-virus, which is apparently another common conflict, but I tried with my soft-off (Avira) and with parameters changed and still had problems.

TB worked OK in safe mode for a few hours... that seems to be the proposal by default for any question, but this isn't a practical solution... it simply highlights the problem that TB and Windows do not play well together?

I am confident that with the right people here I could get finally this works with my current setup, but what happens after that? Go through all this again when I switch to Windows 10 (which I am already be encouraged to do?)

I guess that's my main concern, and the real question for the group... is a permanent any difficulty as soon as possible/probable?

It seems that this has happened for some time, but as long as the docs say that TB and Win8 are compatible, I wonder if it is still considered as a problem to solve?

All the suggestions here appreciated. I've been a happy user for a long time and won't change for a new client, but it feels like it could have been in the too hard basket?

Thank you

Matt

Just a brief update on this one... Tuberculosis is still suspended from time to time, but no more than any other software running under Windows... so it is usable and I'm this marking as "resolved". Thank you!

    Ed,
If you are still having this problem then I recommend to update your video card driver.  Go to the website for the manufacturer of the video card and usually they will have a driver download section.  Also, if this does not help, then after your system specs and what version of Windows and level of service pack that you are running.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for your suggestion. Previously, I tried to downgrade the couple return versions (I forgot to mention in original post) occasionally TB started ok but most of the time it crashed...

    I found working solution in the meantime = > 64 TB http://www.mozilla64bit.com/index.php/thunderbird-64-bit-download

Still don't know what could possibly cause this problem but hardware acceleration is certainly worth a try. Will try to disable the day I decide to go back to 32-bit.

  • Adobe Flash crashed so I have disabled hardware acceleration

I guess many people is aware of this problem.
When you leave a video full screen, flash player crashed. Then I saw the solution in this site. He tells me to disable hardware acceleration. If it worked, I'm supposed to update my graphics drivers, but it is already up to date. I don't want to keep my hardware acceleration disabled but when I allow it I still have a few problems. Help me!
    Thank you

Disabling hardware acceleration in the settings of the Flash is the solution given in article videos Flash will not play in full screen . If it works, the article suggests to update your graphics driver. If you can't do that, it's OK to leave disabled hardware acceleration. This Adobe help page has more information:

    Quote:

If I have some display problems with Flash Player, what should I do?

If you have problems to view with Flash Player, such as poor quality, image or slow display times deselect Enable hardware acceleration in the display panel. This should eliminate the problems of compatibility of hardware or driver with Flash Player. Flash Player then uses the software to scale and display content.

This happens only when I open/close a video too fast or I use some (L100 - 30 Hercules) aircraft in FS9. All other devices work fine. I sent an error report to Microsoft tonight when this happened. Is there a simple solution for this? I don't want to reinstall XP if I don't have, as my drive my being corrupt. I'm not sure. I also used some older programs that I have used for years that run fine on XP but will not work in Windows 7 even with Virtual XP Mode installed.

    Hello Joel S

I had already tried this and it was not a hardware failure. I ran chkdsk and the player revealed a good with no bad sectors. I also use Belarc COMPUTER management systems that manages the health of smart HDs (HDs most have this 'Intelligent' ability). The problem was some legacy software that I thought that I had taken when I did a removal of the program. He left 5 pieces of something that is called «online...» "I found it using Malwarebytes, and he was buried deep in the registry. The program was "Cliffs of Dover" a stream online to run the program. Once you have downloaded the game was the only way to use it online, which took 20-30 minutes to load and once loaded would break your system if you have tried to play. Shame, it's a beautiful CFS, but way to buggy.

In any case, removed from the basket with Malwarebytes and every thing works fine. No more accidents.

    Hello

1 did you change on your computer?

2 did you receive an error message?

Fallout 3 is not compatible with windows 7. See the below link for the same thing:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/search.aspx?type=software&s=fallout&OS=32-bit

    Method 1:

You can even check this link: make sure to run older programs in this version of Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

    Method 2:

However, start your computer in a clean boot state, and see if that fixes the problem.

See How to solve a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure that you configure the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

  • Windows 8 crashes when running 'find the hardware changes' in the Device Manager, requiring forced stop

I just installed Windows 8 Pro on a system that were running Windows 7 without problem.  After completing a clean Windows 8 Pro Setup program, I went from hollow driver installation, but found the package to install for my card its caused Windows 8 Pro drivers to lock up and become completely numb.  I had to force a shutdown by pressing the button for 4 seconds.

Trying to solve the problem, I found that manually install the drivers through the device manager didn't cause any problems.  In addition, installation of the drivers available through Windows Update also worked without problem. However, these two methods fail to install parts of the pilot training included him.  Then I have to uninstall the device from the package of drivers again.  I uninstalled the sound card via Device Manager and selected "Delete the driver for this device."  When I followed this with a "Scan for hardware changes" again the list my sound card, I have found that Windows 8 Hung again.

After trying other options with no resolution, I tried to reinstall fresh Windows 8.   To exclude a possible problem with Windows 8, I opened Device Manager, as soon as I could after installing Windows and ran "find the hardware changes.  New Windows 8 freezes.  I can't place blame on post installation any software or driver.  This seems to be a problem with Windows 8 itself.

A final note, sometimes "find the hardware changes" will actually work, but most often it forces the system to hang.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Can anyone provide assistance? (chart below for comparison)

It seems that I am victim of dynamic ticks.  Research on my question, I have found several discussions around the ' net for crashes/freezes random in Windows 8, but none of them appeared to agree to my problem.  However, they all had the same solutions.

Run the following command in a command prompt to disable the dynamic ticks.

    bcdedit/set disabledynamictick Yes

I thought that I have that would give a shot, and it worked.  I wrote this answer, I also found that there is a recent update of the BIOS for my motherboard which indicates "Support Windows8 feature."  With the new BIOS applied, I was able to turn dynamic ticks and have been broadcast since w/o freezes.  I also managed to install all my drivers.  Anyone else having this problem maybe try updating the motherboard BIOS, otherwise try the above command.
