Time Machine is unable to locate my missing document

TIme Machine opens ok, I select Pages, TM back in time, I don't want to restore at this point, I click on Pages and a window says it's 'size calculation' forever. I am not able to focus on my missing document. What I am doing wrong?

Is there a reason that miss me that you posted this on Photos for Mac forum?

You can not open file from a TM backup - you must use the TM = tipn applicai to restore then you open once they have been restored

  • Time Machine is unable to finish his first full backup

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5 on my Mac Mini in 2011.  I recently had Melrose Mac increase its 16 MB RAM and HD sound internal to a 2 TB drive and they have cloned my original data and restored on the new drive.

Then, I partitioned the drive and installed El Capitan, Yosemite, and Snow Leopard on each of these partitions.  Who are all the Mac OS X extended (journaled).  Each partition correctly starts and runs.

Then, I took my LaCie 2 Bay drive, with 1 t readers in each Bay, wiped and set up as 'Fast' while it will be seen as a 2 t drive and chose this drive for Time Machine in Leo.  This disc is also Mac OS X extended (journaled).

About halfway through the first backup (350 GB), I get the following message from Time Machine; now it happens more quickly:

And here it is recreated Time Machine in system preferences:

I followed the instructions several times using repair in the disk on the primary drive of LaCie and its partitin utility, but it does not report errors.  Then the first Time Machine backup will fail again about half way through.

I've been reviewing Pondini suggestions, but they do not cover this specific message and they do not seem to find the problem.

    Any thoughts?

Moderators, please move this to the subheading appropriate; as Mac OS X Lion/Time Machine and remove this message.  Thank you.

  • After restoring from Time Machine MacBook Pro displays all my pictures, Documents etc. as 'other '.

I recently installed a new HD in my mid-2010, MacBook Pro that the original was defective, I then restored from a time Machine up which was recorded on an external drive. My MacBook is now going great but I noticed the problem with how my saved items are displayed, I have about 110 GB of Photos, documents, etc. and all are showing as 'Other' when they should be distributed in the divisions 'Apps', 'Movies', etc.. I'm not sure how to solve the problem, I tried a Migration Wizard, but it says 'User needs Attention' so don't know where to go from here really. Any ideas?

If you use the 'about this Mac' view, be aware that there is a bug in the program that it generates and should not be relied upon.  Sometimes, but not always, he will correct a reindexing of Spotlight:

  • Partial access to the backup time machine

    Hello

I tried to upgrade Yosemite to El Capitan, but failed. If the local bank staff did a clean install for me. Prior to this, internal hard drive for my Mac has been saved using Time Machine, on an encrypted external hard drive. However, Time Machine is unable to restore a back ups (shows the chronology of the previous backups, but the restore button is gray).

However, backups are visible in the structure of the external hd directories. However, only some, not all directories are available. For example, I was able to copy Documents mailed to the internal hd hd, but Google Drive are not available. More detail in the attachments.

My question is: How can I solve the problem just described and, in particular, to obtain access to directories that are blocked so far on the external hard drive?

Indeed, you have a 'new' Mac... from the hard drive of your Mac "old" has been erased and a new operating system has been installed.

Time Machine will allow you only to restore a backup, if you look at your current Mac made backups. Since you have a 'new' Mac... (who did not backup, Time Machine is concerned)... you can not use Time Machine to restore the data.

Instead, use the Migration Wizard on your Mac.  It is located Finder > Applications > utilities > Migration Wizard

Things could be a lot easier, however, if you take the Mac and your hard drive... with Time Machine backups... back to the Apple Store and let the 'genius' accomplish the task it should have done before.

In fact, when you first turned on the new 'Mac', installation wizard should have appeared and ask you if you want to restore from Time Machine backups.  That would be the best way, and easier to make your 'new' look Mac as your 'old' Mac but fortunately Migration Assistant can perform a similar function.

  • Time Machine-to the exclusion of directories

I'm backup my iMac SSD drive (500 GB) on a 3T OSX to format drive.  I also use a directory on this 3T USB as a secondary drive in my favorites (Finder).  What I find is that Time Machine takes about 3-4 DAYS to run a backup.  It takes a particularly long time to complete the process of 'cleaning up' after the backup (which apparently does not get completed if broken.)

When I "Get Info" to the Backups.backupdg directory that it takes several hours to calculate the size of this folder (~1.5T), while "Get Info" is almost instantaneous on other 4 or 5 t formatted (NTSC) or another OS x 2 t formatted the disk.

I do this so I can backup the entire disk 3T a cloud or off site backup.

If I can exclude the Time Machine backup of itself, I suspect the backup can be done in less than an hour. Is there a way to do this in Time Machine or must it backs up the entire drive?  If the latter, I'll apply for improvement for Time Machine!

    joshfromalameda wrote:

If I can exclude the Time Machine itself, backup

That confuses me. Time Machine is unable to save himself.

I also use a directory on this 3T USB as a secondary drive in my favorites (Finder).

If you back up the content that is stored on the backup volume, Time Machine will not work properly.

I think there is something on your Time Machine configuration, I don't understand. Even if your iMac contained 500 GB of content source, the initial backup to a drive connected locally can take a few hours. Subsequent incremental (hours) will take only a few minutes.

How this backup disk is connected? USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt...?

  • I would like to add a folder of photos on a USB key for time machine backups

I have a new time capsule, and I am attaching a USB hard drive that previously held some my time machine backups and all my photos. I would now add the photo of backups auto time folder machine on the time capsule. But in time machine preferences I don't see the folder or the USB key. Although I can see the USB in the finder as well as the time capsule window. I can copy and paste the photo time capsule file it's just I wanted to time machine for backup for me. Any help much appreciated.

The time Capsule is what we call a 'network' of the road, so when the USB is connected to the time Capsule, which would make it a "network" drive as well.

Unfortunately, Time Machine is unable to back up a 'network' of the time Capsule drive.

If you want to save the data or the USB disk using Time Machine drive, you will need to connect the drive directly to your Mac and then it will be saved with your Mac... assuming that the drive has been formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled) format. Then, the player will become a "local" drive

If you need to keep the USB connected to the time Capsule, the only way to back up data automatically on a schedule would be to use a commercial program like Carbon Copy Cloner or ChronoSync.

  • Time Machine does not

I'm having a problem with Time Machine.  The program seems to be backing up my files correctly but when I run the application Time Machine so I can locate a file that I need to restore, I get a black box on the screen with a date on the right scroll bar.  I have attached a picture of the screen.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I rebooted several times, assembled and disassembled the external hard drive but still get the same results.

  • iPhoto restoring from Time Machine... I lose my current library?

If I restore an iPhoto to the top of time Machine in a separate location, for example an external drive, I'll be able to view this AND my current iPhoto on the Mac, or I lose my current iPhoto with the restoration process? Thank you

If you restore to another folder you will have two iPhoto libraries - you switch between them using the Exchange iPhoto library - or by double clicking on the library you want to open - or by (the solution the most genres) holding down the option key while launching iPhoto and using the select Library window

  • Could not find the Time Capsule for Time Machine backup drive

My iMac is running El Capitan and Time Machine is unable to find the Time Capsule backup drive.  I blew the backup several times in hopes that it will fix the problem.   The only thing I found which will allow a return to the top is to unplug the Time Capsule and plug it in again.  The work around works only once, then it's back to "can't find the backup disk.

For anyone a cela or similar questions are you go in your Utilities folder (in your applications folder) and run the utility airport to see what he says about the disks attached. This cannot work for the readers of time capsule Apple rather than third party readers who have been designated as the backup time drives machine.

  • How to recover a file deleted iCloud by using Time Machine?

I accidentally deleted my iCloud .pages file.  I've read posts that say it can be recovered using Time Machine, but I'm not able to find the actual method to do so.  To be exact: file that contains and how to do it?

    Any help will be appreciated.

Select ICloud Drive in the Finder, then enter the Time Machine.  Then click on the folder of Pages in iCloud drive:

In the timeline to the right border of the window of time Machine go back until you see the document Pages.

  • Time machine backup missing messages?

I recently did a clean install on my MacBook Pro. I don't want my my time Machine user account migrate upward, but I would like to transfer my text messages. I know that messages are located in the user/library/messages/archive folder that I can find on my Mac, but there is no such folder on the Time Machine backup?

    What Miss me?

    Hello

I would be accessing ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages/Archive on my computer because that's where my Archive is.

See the path bar across the bottom.

I know some posters have said there is here an Alias that is connected to ~Library/Messages/Archive as you describe.

If you have two different locations through the current startup and time Machine, you might need to manually open the backup file and then drag the content to where you want to or need them to be.

  • Unable to locate labview run time engine

    Hi all

I have a problem while trying to run a simple labview software on a Tablet PC.

My development machine is under win 7 64 bit with labview 2010 sp1 10.0.1

My computer is a win 7 32 bit based tablet.

I installed labview runtime engine TEN 2011 standard 32-bit sp1 but I get the following text: «unable to locate labview run-time engine...» "

I tried to install sp1 64-bit of the 2011 standard RTE because one of the items suggested, but windows is not allowing to install 64-bit applications...

Should which version of the Runtime I install!

You did not say, but I'm assuming that you are using LabVIEW 2010 sp1 32 bit to develop and build the application.

You can include the 2010 sp1 Runtime when you build the Setup program, or you can download it (here) and install it separately.

(The runtime version must match the development system, so time to run from 2011 will not work. Even the 2010 (non - SP1) could cause problems)

Can you tell me what position suggested to install an operating time of the wrong version of 64-bit. That makes no sense at all! Please provide a link.

(You can only install the runtime on a 64 bit OS, 64-bit, and he will agree only if the application has been developed in 64-bit LabVIEW to the same version.)
