Time machine lost history

Hi all

I have installed a 1 TB SSD in my end of 2008 iMAC.  It's a long process, because I had to do a boot from El Capitan on a USB disk.  Once I installed El Capitan on my new SSD drive, since the boot from USB, I then restored my files from my external 2 TB Time Machine for the SSD.

First tried Time machine to back up the new drive, I had an error that there wasn't enough room on my 2 TB external hard drive to save the 1 TB drive.  Don't search in Time Machine, there is no history of all my previous backups but the player shows only 300 GB of free space.

I'm looking for my old backups.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

  • restore from Time Machine lost iTunes library

My system crashed and I'm having a hard time folding files of TimeMachine.  It is not very intuitive, if you ask me.  When I try to restore my music library, it tells me that I can't because "she is required by OSX.  In general, I'm quite unhappy with iTunes and the difficulty of storing music where you want.  Now I seem to have lost my whole library that is not on my iPhone.  Any advice for how to get back what I lost and a different program to go would be appreciated.

You try to restore iTunes (the application) or you go to the user music folder to restore the library?

  • time machine/capsule backup lost

    Hello

When wanting to access the saved data of time capsule via the time machine, time machine shows zero backup history while there would be more than a year with a value of more than 900 GB.  I get this in time machine preferences:

When you click on the available data disk, time capsule/machine displays no backup history and appears empty; the above data disk it is not accessible and cannot be removed.  Yet one of these disks is indicated as an accountant 963 GB of data, and I suspect that it is the only inaccessible.  How the hell could this happen?  Anyone has an idea, and advises?  I do not tinker with the application and airport utility shows no connectivity issues.  Please, let me know as soon as possible - thanks!

    Frank M.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for Time Machine discovered a corruption of backup... it will then proceed to delete the backup and start over. The sparsebundle is not deleted... He still occupies the space that it used to before deleting the content took place.

The only way to know if that is really what happened is to open the sparsebundle in the finder. See if it's contained in there... If there is... the question is different. TM has lost its connection to its own protection is also not rare. Any change in the network, you have done for this cause. It is possible to reconnect to the existing backups.

    My recommendations...

    1. read some of Pondini howto in order to understand what is happening.

    http://pondini.org/TM/troubleshooting.html

A4 and A5 are the most useful... TM to reset and verify backups.

    2. open the sparsebundle in the Finder and see if there is indeed always glad... If so, check in the TC. To do this through the disk tab in the airport utility. Plug in a USB key in the TC...

Once you check the disk...... delete it and start a new backup.

You can still access the old backup by plugging the USB directly to the computer... Right-click on the icon of TM in the dock. And select Browse... According to the screenshot below.

The TM and TC combo turns out to be less reliable over time (pun intended).

  • Requests that are lost during the restoration of time machine

For example, recently my laptop (MacBookPro7, 1.) Intel Core 2 Duo. 2.4 GHz. memory to 6 GB) came up with a message saying to upgrade to el capitan, and after some research to see if my computer were compatible (OS X 10.6.8) I've updated. However, I found that many things had changed in ways that I didn't like as well as my laptop is slow. So I watched it come back back and followed the instructions of restoration (command-R, choose the time machine backup, etc.). Unfortunately since doing so, I lost many of my applications provided with the computer, and I can not find them even in the applications folder (Calculator, preferences system, overview and a few others), I have also noticed that when I try to access the time machine preferences or system preferences they come in the form of files called content and there is no way to access it.

If anyone knows how I can find my apps or even be able to access the settings, it would be much appreciated. I'm too scared to try redownload things where it makes things worse. However, I tried to go back and restore from time machine once again, but after having tried several times in vain to get to the right section again once I gave up.

Boot into Recovery (R command) and re-install OS X on top of your existing operating system.

After doing a full restore on my Macbook Air of Time Machine, Safari is not displayed no browsing history, or he saves history after that I left Safari. • New router lost Time MAchine

Now later in my problems without end with networking...

This morning I installed a new router (former a packed) which is identical to the former - a BT Home Hub 5.

I had a list established this:

... that is the time Machine / aka basic Station (why there so many names!) has been connected to my network via Wi - Fi.

Now I have the new road, everything is set back to how it was before aside, I lost the TC. The reason is that the new router, even if I have named themselves, they have different WiFi key password (of course).

    I see this now:

I can see in the upper left corner, he found a point WiFi (TC), but whenever I'm going to add it, it seems to want to replace one of my other components. All I want to do is get back to where I was, with her concected 'Abbey Home Office' and not 'Cook' etc. I join my back ups of the last year to be always accessible! This is the point of a Machine of time after all...

When I installed it initially, I'm sure that I had to set up wired - but can I use the WAN or LAN port on the TC and can I connect on the Mac or the router.

    So confused...

It really should connect the TC in one of the other airports... the main router or what you called Hub... it makes no difference as long as the main router is also a gigabit.

Setup the TC in bridge mode and create a... wireless network you can use the same name for the wireless as the rest of your network... but it should be noted that this sometimes causes issues if you have the computer plugged into another airport or the main router... for now a problem... Time Capsule recovery online... (It's a Capsule time btw...) Time Machine is the software on the computer that performs the backup... the two are not related in any way, but apple has mightily confused the issue. )

If the automatic configuration does not do it manually.

  • Lost USB, backed up with Time Machine

    Hoping someone can help me!

I lost a USB stick containing important data. It was included in the time machine, but because the physical device is missing, it does not appear when I browse backups. Can someone tell me please how to recover this data?

    Thank you, Rob

  • Lost in Time Machine restore photos

At the end of my wits. This is the second time that this has happened. After you erase and reformat my hard drive, restore partition I restored a backup of all my files that had been made a few days earlier Time machine. It LOOKED as if all went well, but now I find that one of my Albums, which had well over 150 photos, or iPhoto has only managed to restore 14 of these photos. And this is the most important. As I say, it happened the last time I did this kind of restoration as well.

After I did the Time Machine in the system restore, I was prompted to rebuild the iPhoto database and did, and I was also invited to "import" all of my many boxes to the letters and their content in the mail. So far, it seems that IT worked, but as with iPhoto, most of whose albums DID restore entirely, or at least seem to have done, I fear that there are losses latent God knows where.

I pray that someone can explain to me how this could occur and how to fix it.

In addition, why in the categories among which I must choose are there no category for Time Machine?

Update: some research, the first under the spotlight by a file name the closest to one of the 14 who in the appropriate album, and then, after trying manually drag some of those in the album and being rejected because he claimed that the pictures were already in the iPhoto library, I opened all of the photos in the photo library and finally understood how to sort them by title. And there were all these «lost photos» Try and then drag them into the appropriate album, I have had no joy. It simply wouldn't do. So, I created a new album without title and was able to pass all these photos in this one and then re-name-the.

So, obviously, it is random random sort by Time Machine, put pictures in their albums proper during a restore. Does anyone have an explanation of why this would be the case? If I didn't have a photo of survivor in the game with a title to be used as a means of rallying defined overall in the undifferentiated photo album, I would have needed hours and hours to track them all, and if I had not known instantly that many disappeared after restore, this album, I would never have known even to go look for them.

Of course, one would expect time Machine to do what it is supposed to do in a situation like this?

  • You want to restore only lost Apple Time Machine Mail. Is this possible without full system restore?

I have an iMac with OS X (El Capitan).  I had to delete my email account in System Preferences due to a problem with my email provider.  Set up a new account.  Noticed that all my Inbox subfolders have been maintained, but kept in the Inbox emails have been deleted.  Thought that I have may be able to restore from a Time Machine backup, but don't want to do a complete restore of the system.  Is it possible to isolate and restore only Apple Mail?

  • Help! Time Machine has deleted my external hard drive iPhotos to make room for backups. I lost my birth iPhotos and the first 2 years of my baby!

I'm next to me, I hope that there is a way to get back them.

I was told my someone from tech apple to my iPhotos on an external hard disk to make more space on my MacBook Air, which seemed to work fine. We also have this same external hard drive my Time Machine.

I noticed a small box from time to time come and say something like, Time Machine is running out of space to record new data, you want to delete things until March 2013 etc. He asked me a few times and I said yes, all the way until June 2014. Now just disappeared in my iPhotos to find some pictures of my daughter when she was a baby (in 2012) and there is nothing there before 2014. I'm completely panic, is there something I can do?

    Thank you, Kate

    PS

This is the first time I've posted here, this is the right place to ask this question?

    Can specify you:

You have time machine back ups and an iPhoto library on the same application - no time machine back ups of the library?

  • iPhoto has lost all the additions from June 2015 to 21 Feb 1016. Tried to restore from Time Machine, it still has the gap.

The date is February 24, 2016.

I'm studying me ways to copy the library iPhoto in full on an external drive. I've been in the Finder > my username > photos, simply by looking at the dates, and I'm not aware that I made any changes.

I was adding a handful of photos every day for the last week or two.

I noticed that the file system is not quite as it was a week ago, and it seems that the last event is June 29, 2015, up to an import on February 22, 2016. In other words, it seems iPhoto has restored to its state of June 2015 then accepted imports from February 2016. I had not yet been in Time Machine!

In the Finder > username > images, from now on, I see there: -.

    "Today."

"iPhoto Library", type - package, with a white page icon folded, created may 2012, 30.8 GB, modified today, version 9.4.3.

'iPhoto Library (original)', kind - iPhoto Library, with a colored icon, created may 2012, 27.46 GB, today, no modified version mentioned.

    «Past 7 days»

"iPhoto Library (2 originals)" type - package, with a blank icon page folded, created may 2012, 30,77 GB, modified February 19, 2016 (its Feb 24 today), version 9.4.3

In Time Machine, I restored version Feb 19, I find that the library was complete at this date, but the library has the same gap to date.

I would be grateful for any suggestion. I didn't have it backed up to the cloud. Please have mercy, I'm not that tech-letter, so I would appreciate instructions step by step to the intermediate level.

A big thank you Doug - greetings-

You do not use the finder in any way with your iPHoto photos - when you launch iPhoto see you - especially in the last import, and last month "n"?

  • Door key lost in the time machine backup

    Dear community,

Because I had trouble with the speed of my MacBook Pro (and nothing else developed), I had to set up entirely new.

Before installing El Capitan, my MacBook Pro (starting 2011) ran on Yosemite 10.10.5. I made two backups with time machine, generated a bootable El Capitan installation USB key, in format Macintosh HD, installed at El Capitan and ran all the updates. The system works well, everything works perfectly and my Mac is fast again. Now, I manually copy things that I need in my system of charges.

Here, the problem is: I can't find the old keychain file in the time machine backup!

Keychain works with the keys stored in iCloud. However, the other buttons are gone.

As I discovered, ~/Library/Keychains is hidden. I did it visible on my system running. However, this does not work in the backup file. It remains hidden or - worse - have not been stored in the backup. I don't know that I have excluded from time machine backup only two totally different folders (dropbox and movies).

You have any ideas how I can find my keychain (login.keychain if my search was right) in the time machine backup?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Time Machine, please press the shift-command-C key combination. The windshield will show the mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and search for files to restore.

If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user library folder, first select a snapshot, and then press shift-command-G. A go to the folder dialog box opens. In this document, you enter the path to the folder. The dialog box will help you by automatically filling parts of the path when you start typing.

The path starts with the slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts is separated by slashes.

The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a '2', and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right arrow key to access the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next game.

Next is the volume name (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you assigned a different name.) Start typing, then jump to the end and enter a slash.

The next part is 'Users', followed by a slash.

Then is your short user name. It is also the name of your home folder, which is represented by an icon of the House in the sidebar of a Finder window.

Finally, enter "Library", and then press return. You should now be in the library folder. From there, you can move like in the Finder. You can also select another snapshot of the same folder.
