time machine remove the backup target drive

Running El Capitan - I have set up three units for Time Machine backup: a RAID and a dock that is used for a pair of alternation of readers of archive. One of two archives training to life in a safe Bank and I have Exchange it with the current drive once a week.

Before I upgraded my OS, Time Machine would simply be two backups between some readers were available and do so without comment. Now, after the upgrade, Time Machine sees that one of the pair is missing and he complains. This means that one time every three hours Time Machine issues a warning that one of the players is not available.

I have not found a way to disable this warning.

Be resigning myself to this, I decided that I simply change the names of readers Archives are identical, and then remove the 'third' drive in the list. With this version of Time Machine, I don't see a button "select disk" or any other way for the list of target readers and remove one of them. The options button allows you to control the volume of the source, not the target volumes.

Either I have to stop the needless alert or remove a drive in the list.

Any suggestions?

Re: community - the only results of a search of a community of Time Machine is under Mountain Lion. Sorry if this is too broad

After losing all kinds of weather (including a right click on the list of drives for backup and the research in all directions - including multiple searches on google), I discovered that you have right click on the drive icon in the list to use or remove the drive. This follows a different set of rules than the Finder user interface.

  • Time machine removed the external drive without warning

    Hello

I had an external hard drive with a time Machine to the top of my old macbook pro. Today I plugged my new mackbook pro and TIme Machine asked me if I wanted to use it as a return to the top. I said yes, and the process has begun. Then I saw that he had erased everything I had previously on the external hard drive...

    so I stopped immediately.

Now, my external hard drive is empty with only a couple of the new backup folders... and everything disappeared. Please help, I have all my work on this hard drive and very important documents.

    Thank you very much!

Maybe this, I used it when nothing else worked, but nothing is a bet of 100%

the more you use that drive for now more you'll destroy what could be there so disconnect now!

  • Time machine sees the backup, but not connecting to new machine

Just did a transfer from MAC to MAC using Thunderbolt cable - everything is good!  Then, I wanted to make sure that the new Mac can access Time Machine backup file on the network file server.

Old MAC - running El Capitan 10.11.3 - TM full backup to the network Central of Seagate drive is successful.

New Mounting successful MAC - running El Capitan 10.11.4 - Time machine disk Seagate file

. Name of the new Mac is slightly different because of the collision of network host names

Various attempts to select the reader appear to succeed but the backup information (Date of last backup) are not displayed.

Entering Time Machine will display the finders stacked, but it will timeout to 30 seconds, saying: he cannot connect to the backup file.

UNIX command 'mount' shows the machinery once mounted via afp: in /Volumes

(From old Mac - should be present)

Rich@SeagateHomeDisk._afpovertcp._tcp.local./SeagateHomeDisk%20TM%20Backup on the Volumes/SeagateHomeDisk TM Backup (afpfs, nobrowse)

(But on the new Mac - mounts like this)

[email protected]/SeagateHomeDisk%20TM%20Backup on the Volumes/SeagateHomeDisk TM Backup (afpfs, nodev, nosuid, ridden by rickenne)

To verify access to the backup file, I started the old Mac and accessed fine.

Note that I try to not to have the two machine upwards at the same time.

Should I clean server Seagate Keychain Access permissions for the file mounted correctly?

  • Partition of time-Machine add the unallocated space

    Hello
I'm on Macbook Pro 15.4 "mi retina 2013
I have 2 questions about Time machine
    1. I have a 512 GB SSD HDD and I bought a new external drive 2 TB of HARD drive, how do Mach I use for backup of my internal drive with time machine on the external hard drive?
    2. is it possible to like 500 GB of external drive (2 TB) to use as a second partition for some time and after a few weeks to remove it and use the unallocated space and add to the partition of time-Machine to complete it to 2 TB without deleting anything the backup?

    Thank you very much
    Amit

    1. at least 1 GB.

    2. Yes. Use disk utility to partition the drive, and then make sure that the 500 GB partition is below 1.5 CT one in the list.

  • Migration of Time Machine to the new drive, backups are larger than the Original drive

I am currently migrating my Time Machine backups from a 2 TB WD My Passport for Mac to a new WD 6 to my book for Mac. I have 63 backups on the old disk, and Finder says that the reader has TB filled 1.96.

However, each individual backup is about 350 GB, which certainly does not. I think normally it was something weird with the Finder listing the wrong sizes, except that when I copy the backups to the new disk, they copy effectively to 350GB a piece. I initially tried to copy everything the ~ 2 TB Backups.backupdb at once, but it was so great, she didn't, then I copy on each both a backup in a folder that I had planned to rename "Backups.backupdb" at the end. At this rate, I will fill new TB cases 6 drive long before copying all backups on.

    How is that possible?

Just to be complete, I'm using a Macbook Pro of the retina 2012, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 graphics card Intel HD 4000 1536 MB, 512 GB of storage, under OS X 10.11.3.

Time Machine saves the previous backups for the continuous backup size to become more wider until there is no more space on the backup drive. It is quite normal because Time Machine is an archive backup utility.

  • When I deleted a picture of my MacBook, why it also remove the external hard drive?

So I tried to help my wife to free up space on his MacBook Pro by putting all of his photos on an external hard drive. After iPhoto slide the hard disk and wait 40 minutes so that he could transfer, I wanted to make sure it worked. I ejected the disk and then plugged in. Of course, all iphotos were still there. Just to be sure, I deleted one file in the folder on the computer's iphoto. I went to my shock and horror, the external hard drive, that it has been deleted it too! How is that possible? I've been scouring the Internet trying to retrieve this file with no luck. It was not in the trash. There is a tab "recently deleted". Time machine was not turned on. iCloud shows nothing. I can't download any software, because the computer is completely filled. How is it possible that by deleting this folder on the computer he did also leave the hard drive? AND it has not been saved in the trash? I have used PC, and whenever I need something in return, he was ALWAYS in the trash. And if I deleted something on the computer with an external hard drive connected, it would NEVER be removed from the external hard drive at the same time. I'm so frustrated and feeling SO bad that I deleted a folder with important pictures of our kids. Is that what I can do to recover the pictures? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You used Time Machine at all? I see you say it was not on, but it never on and is at - it a backup Time Machine on the Macbook Pro?

  • Windows backup error: backup skipped E:\_Genie Timeline\0\C of backup as it is on the backup target

I searched on the questions in the forum about the mistake of backup, but my mistake is a little different than most of the ones I've seen. I just bought a new Lacie Rugged Thunderbolt 3.0 USB 1 TB and formatted like the instructions say, with 100% NTFS. I got a message that he was ready to use. I tried to run a backup with the backup program I have on my laptop: Genie Timeline Pro 2012. I received a warning not configured "backup. Genie Timeline is unable to access the backup settings. "You must configure a new backup or that your data will be protected." I searched the help forums and one of the suggestions was so complicated, I sent them a support ticket. I got the answer that I was using an old and outdated version that was not supported and that I had to update to version 2015 and if I continued to have the problem, contact them again. I didn't update because it is an old laptop that I want to give, and I don't want to go to the expense. I have a laptop more recent that I have to get a 3rd party backup for. S-o-o I tried to use the Windows backup utility and enabled him to make the decisions about what to backup. It includes the image of the system and the drive E:\. Six hours later, I received the error "error in backup files 2015-04-20 164035." "Skipped backup E:\_Genie Timeline\0\C backup as it is on the backup target" is because engineering Timeline had tried to back up my files and some of them are already on the HARD drive? Should I just try to reformat the new HARD drive and try again Windows backup? I am very computer illiterate, so you can give me any help is greatly appreciated!

An 'image' is a snapshot of your hard drive. Contains: System files, documents, pictures, music, programs. That's why it takes so long to run. Since you give the old machine now, it is totally unnecessary for you. In your case, I would use this simple solution:

    1. Connect external storage to your old PC. A 500 GB 2.5 "drive in a USB enclosure would be an excellent choice. They cost less than $60.00.
    2. Use the right mouse button to drag "My Documents", "My pictures" etc the old laptop to the external drive. Select "copy", not "move" when prompted.
    3. Connect the external drive on your new computer, and then perform some checks to make sure that you can read the files.
    4. Spend a moment thinking about your message and your browser Favorites (favorite =) files. Do you need to move them to the new machines?
    5. Use the new machine for a week or two before I give the old machine.
  • Error - skipped backup E:\filename backup as it is on the backup target, under Windows 7.

I am trying to create a back up. I get an error message saying that the "Backup jumped backup E:\filename as it is on the backup target. I have unintalled the program with the name of the file in question and removed all the remaining files. Am I missing something?

I know this is a late response to this topic. I had the same problem and he said the following

I used to have a 40 GB hard drive on this computer and ran out of space very fast so I changed the storage location of C:\Users\------... to D:\Users\\etc...
The D drive is now my position that I'm saving windows 7 backups and since I backed my users documents in the C: drive when I had a bigger hard drive. something in the registry or a file still has inscriptions referring to the D:\Users\etc... Directory. anyway. just thought I would add to the confusion :).
    Nice day.

    I just fixed it.
I returned and restored the storage locations by default on all files (i.e. photos, Documents, downloads, Favorites, search, etc...) then renamed the folder in Explorer to match the default folder. For example, after restoring the file storage location my pictures on the name of pictures by default, he was still named my images inside windows Explorer. I right click and it renamed my images in images and press ENTER. Finally after that I deleted all my libraries and restored the default libraries and now everything works well in the windows backup utility.

  • What does Time Machine to the top of the address book?

I use OS X El Capitan (10.11.5) and AddressBook application.

I created a bunch of groups in the address book and must have one accidentally deleted because he disappeared. I use Time Machine and it seems to be compatible with the address book, so I thought I could just go back to an older version, but I can't seem to make it work.

If I enter Time Machine from the address book application, I see the old backups to return indefinitely. I have chosen one a week ago and restored, but I don't see the old group. In fact, there are always new groups that I just created today.

So I did not understand what actually have backed up by Time Machine. Is this just backup contact records, but not groups?

When I restore, it restores the entire database or just a folder that I'm looking?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion or advice!

  • Using Time Machine or the Migration Assistant to transfer information from and old Mac to a new one

I had to think about upgrading a Macbook Air to a Macbook Pro and have done research on how pretty much everything (files, account icloud, etc.) to move to a new computer so I know how to do it when the time comes. I didn't save my current computer at the time I got it and didn't know whether it was necessary to do it before the transfer. Also, I found two different ways to move information from one mac to another, one way being using the migration wizard, the other via the time machine. The problem is that I've never used time machine (I checked my settings and it is turned off). I was curious to know which option would be the 'best' way and if not never back up my computer would be a problem. (If its possible, could someone also please explain how to back up my computer?)

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward I hope to get a reply soon!

I use Time Machine often (and have used since its introduction).  I also upgraded my Mac hardware quite often (about every 18 months).  Whenever I move to a new machine, I use the Migration Wizard (and not Time Machine).  I've never had a problem.

Then I suggest that you need not Time machine specifically in order to change computers.  However, you really need to keep backups simply because the material is not, and without a backup, you are subject to lose everything you have on your computer.

As long as you do not exhaust all your licenses, you can transfer it. Please note, the Family Pack is an upgrade, the machine that you transfer must have a license of previous qualifying installed (XP or Vista).
