To the left of C:, unallocated space cannot extend the C drive

My install Win 7 had its bootloader on a separate partition. I moved it in C:, but now there are 200 MB of free space to the left of my C: partition. For this reason, I can't expand the C drive to occupy this space. I read on another post that using GParted works, but the person needed the Win 7 disk to repair the boot loader. I don't have a disc, so what do I do?

    I have another question?
    The process is better?

    (1) for installation in the window where you want to install Windows (player option (Advanced)) I'm doing a partition out of unallocated space (for example 70 GB) for the installation of operating system and left another space as unallocated space and after installing I make my partitions in management of disks or with MiniTool Partition Wizard

    Or

    (2) for installation in the window where you want to install Windows (player option (Advanced)) I'm doing a partition of all the unallocated space (disk space) to install the OS and after installation I reduce it and make my partitions.

    Hello

We do not recommend using the partitioning utilities 3.

They result in an unsupported configuration.

  • cannot expand the c partition in unallocated space

I have a HP Pavilion dv5224nr laptop running Windows XP.  I've been low on disk space, so I came on this forum to find out how to remove the recovery partition, since I have the recovery CD from HP.  Now that I deleted the partition through disk management, it only allows me to expand the C partition in unallocated space left by removing the partition D.  "Extend partition" is not an option in the menu when I right click.  I also tried going through the "diskpart" command prompt, select the volume and him asking to "extend".  I received a message that it was unable to extend the volume.  How can I recover the 12 GB of space on my C drive?  Thank you.

I downloaded a free utility called Easeus Partition Master and it worked very well for resizing my partition C.  I also used explores the function to watch the 1 gig unknown partition and it wasn't empty, so I left it alone.  Thanks for your help!

  • SanDisk Cruzer, to use the entire disk, but cannot get rid of the unallocated space or format NTFS

Hello, I just bought this drive with 32 GB. (XP pro, 32-bit ie8 svc pk 3)

I used CCleaner to clean the disc.

CompMgmnt now displays 29,82 FAT32 healthy, with 11 mb unallocated.

When I right click on the unallocated space, properties and help is my only options, no deletion.

I also want to format it in NTFS, but this isn't one option for others 29,82 inches. I have to format it in ntfs?

http://www.thinktechno.com/2008/04/22/how-to-format-a-USB-drive-with-NTFS-file-system/   I was able to format to NTFS through this Web site. However, I still want to remove the removable disk unallocated space.

11 mb is a lot? Diskmanagement lists volume 99% free.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Use the HP format tool (Windows 7/Vista, right-click on the icon and select run as administrator). This will allow you to format to NTFS.

I wouldn't worry about 11 MB, there is almost nothing (~0.01 GB). He might need it for the system or something.
  • Trying to extend the c drive with space unallocated in diskpart.exe - I get the message that there is not enough space. what I am doing wrong?

DiskPart.exe help - not enough space - I have more than 5 GB of unallocated space. trying to expand the C: drive

    Hello mark_kman,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers community.

It sounds as if you have multiple partitions. Disk management and DiskPart extends the volume with a focus on the next contiguous unallocated space. For basic volumes, the unallocated space must be on the drive and must follow (have a plu sector offset number than) the partition with focus.

If you are looking at disk management, this means that, if you look at your partition C: the unallocated space MUST be located directly to the right of the C: partition. If you have another partition between the two, you will be allowed to extend the partition directly to the left of the unallocated space.

This could be a work around, if you have C: and D: and have files on D: but have more space.

-D: shrink to create just enough unallocated space to store your files located on D:.
-Create a new partition with unallocated space to move your files.
-Move your D: files to your new partition.
-Now, to delete the D: partition

This creates unallocated space between your C: partition and the new partition that you created to move your files.

-Now right click on your C: partition and extend as usual.

    Hope this helps

  • Reclaim the unallocated space - right of partitions

I have two hard drives on my computer.  Recently upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit professional.  After data transfer, removal of previous operating system, I have unallocated space both disks located on the right side (as shown in disk management).  On the first disc, unallocated space is to the right of the only partition on the disk - the main partition.  On the second drive, unallocated space is to the right of a pair of partitions - the primary partition and logical partition.

First, I want to add to the main partition unallocated space.

On the second, I add 1/2 on the unallocated space on the main partition, the other 1/2 to the logical partition.

Disk management does not partition to the left.  So, how can I add disk space unallocated right at existing partitions (on the left).

    Appreciate any help.

    Thanks Palcouk!

Took time for me to get there (my computer was not dead in the water, in order to recover the unallocated portions of the disk was not urgent)... but I used the program you suggested.  It was working fine.

1/3 of my disc of Microsoft disk management could not recover (which was empty unallocated space) is now part of my OS partition (C :) and the partition I created for programs (p).  (All data from there, files are on a second drive - for many years now, I've kept my data on a 2nd drive w the OS on the 1st disk).

  • Extend a logical drive with the unallocated space

    Hello

I have windows 7 Home premium on the 320 GB hard drive.
I have illustrated on the picture [link] Partitionas
Now I can extend the C: partition with unallocated 62 GB space, but I can't increase my D: partition. Extend the option is disable on the property of the D: drive.
I have gained 62GB C: drive by shrinking it. I can use it to increase the C: drive (which is the opposite of my approach), but I can't use it to D: drive.

    Hello

The extension of the D drive is not possible for the space allocated, created to the left.
But can be made to the C drive, which is to the left of the unallocated space.

    Hello

I know what you mean, however, move or change the partition efi stops your laptop start - just to be even more confused, it will have been 2 recovery partitions on the HARD drive to the original.

Take a look at the image of the 2nd on the link below - this shows the standard layout of partition of a hard disk with a guid partition table.

    https://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-GB/library/dd744301%28V=WS.10%29.aspx

The 1st "Recovery" partition is related to the environment of Windows - 401Mb partition to your image recovery

The 2nd is the partiton efi - among other things, this will contain the Chargers to boot

Managers of disc is not the MSR partition 3rd gui.

The 4th will be your Windows partition

The 5th will be the supplier (in this case HP) Partition of Image of recovery which is used to create your recovery media or restore system from HARD disk.

    Kind regards

  • Partition of time-Machine add the unallocated space

    Hello

I have 2 questions about Time machine
    1. I have a 512 GB SSD HDD and I bought a new external drive 2 TB of HARD drive, how do Mach I use for backup of my internal drive with time machine on the external hard drive?
    2. is it possible to like 500 GB of external drive (2 TB) to use as a second partition for some time and after a few weeks to remove it and use the unallocated space and add to the partition of time-Machine to complete it to 2 TB without deleting anything the backup?

    Thank you very much
    Amit

    1. at least 1 GB.

    2. Yes. Use disk utility to partition the drive, and then make sure that the 500 GB partition is below 1.5 CT one in the list.

  • How to merge the C drive and unallocated space

I recently had a new 1 TB HDD in my count and then I had to download Windows XP Pro as my old hard drive crashed. In under disk 0 disk management, I (c :)) 128.00 GB and to the right, I have not allocated 803,52 GB.)  I'm not sure how it happened.  I guess that something I had put on Windows XP Pro.

My question is that I can combine the two together.  The C drive and the unallocated space.  There are no other disks shown but C.  Thanks Reta

It happened because you have installed a copy of "gold" Windows XP, (an original version without a service pack).  Released as Windows XP did not support 48-bit LBA so it truncated the disc to 137 GB (128 GB binary) and the rest of the unallocated disk, slipstreaming of service packs for the Windows XP CD would have allowed windows to correctly see the entire disk.  The only way to solve this problem now is to use a third-party partititionneur.  You can use the free trial version of BootItNG to merge partitions.  You do not need to install BootItNG, when you get to the Setup screen simply cancel the installation and you will enter the maintenance mode where you will be able to partition work.

    Hi n m,

Boot you from the DVD to start the installation, or have you started the installation in the existing version of Windows?

I would like to know if you want to perform a new installation or an upgrade installation.

You can not install Windows on an unallocated partition, if you install vista on brand\fresh the new hard disk, you will need to create partitions on the hard disk.

Method 1:  Format the partition and then try to install Windows Vista.

Important: The applications on the computer and all data will be lost when you format (New Installation) of the partition.

Method 2: You can follow the steps mentioned in the article below

Error message when you try to install Windows Vista on a computer that has initialized the hard drives: "this computer's hardware can not supported booting from this drive.

  • How to extend my drive C use unallocated space on my drive hard if the option "extend volume" is grayed out?

I'm trying to erase my drives and have a clean reinstall of Windows 7. Endless hedges have attempted to quit of me, whose latest is my drive C is not able to use the unallocated space that was once my D drive (now deleted).

I am interested in disk management and you can see my drive C, BDEDrive (I don't know what it is and can't get a straight answer on it as of yet), unallocated and free space (I do not understand the difference between space and unallocated space) in that order.

I want a big C 1 TB drive, but can't seem to extend the C drive currently because it is grayed out.

    SOLVED!

    [for reference]
It's also easy to move the startup information in the BDEDrive and giving the computer reboot, and then delete the BDEDrive. After that, the free space can be deleted (it becomes unallocated) and all unallocated space can be swallowed up by the C drive now that the option "Extend Volume" became available.

  • Window 7 - 32-bit in drive D shown tobe full and the steps taken to establish a space cannot be done in the light of some errors

I'm working in Window7 32 bit.   Now, it shows that the D drive, where window7 is installed, is full and there is no space available. I transferred some programs and documents measuring about 2.5 GB G disk and after 2.5 GB of space has been shown tobe available. After awhile, the disc has been shown tobe full.  Then, I used C Cleaner and cleared things temporary and unwanted, measuring about 1.75 GB.  Then 1.75 GB of space has been shown tobe available.  After some time again D drive showed complete tobe. I realized that there is a problem and rectify that I went for troubleshooting. But it showed me that a problem prevents troubleshooting start and error code was OX80070070 in the diagnosis of Performance packaging ID account for this problem I can't update my window updates and anti-virus updates.  I tried to restore to an earlier date, but it showed me that a minimum of 300 MB of space should be available in the player.  Please guide me to correct the defect.

Good disk management involves taking corrective action when the amount of free space is less than 20% of the capacity. Punish you yourself by leaving space free fall to 0%.

Please use snippingtool.exe to create a snapshot of the disk (diskmgmt.msc) Manager, and then save the image as a file and attach it to your response.

  • How reduce the Win7 boot partition, then move the other partitions left in newly free space?

Summary: How can I shrink/move partitions on my HDD 650 GB physical so that they reside in the first 500 GB of that drive?

I have a newly purchased HP dm4-2070us laptop with Win 7 Home Premium (HP OEM) installed on the hard disk of 640 GB.  This hard drive is slow, so I would like to replace it with a 500 GB Seagate Momentus XT.

In order to be able to clone all the partitions of the 640 GB drive for the smallest 500 GB replacement drive, I need to shrink the partition C: (main window), then move the partitions remaining 'left' ending up with all partitions in the first 500 GB of the disk so I can then copy this image to the new drive of 500 GB.

I already have the software to clone the partitions of the 640 GB drive for the 500 GB drive.

    My concerns:

    (1) the administration tool Win7 disc printing should it allows me to shrink the C: boot partition, but I don't know if that can damage anything.

    (2) move the SYSTEM partition, or the partition RECOVERY left the impression that he could render the system unbootable.
