Toshiba and Linux

Hello
Sorry for my English.

Anyone know if, one day, Toshiba will provide the driver for linux? Because I confirm that Qosmio Player is built with linux (Kernel 2.4) and so they use/develop linux drivers for:
-the TV tuner
-the infra-red remote control
-etc...

Pilots who would be very useful for linux users.

I do not understand why, they develop the linux driver and not broadcast. They broadcast the good driver for Windows well, so why not those for linux, because they are!

If anyone has an idea...

If it's a marketing policy that limits toshiba to Microsoft solutions, then why to develop a multimedia player based on a linux system? And so, if this isn't a marketing pro microsoft policy, why not help their clients who choose linux rather than Windows, providing them with the solutions/drivers/howto?

Hello

At the present time the Linux operating system is not supported, and the drivers for Linux are not designed. I'm sure that all producers of portable computers using the Windows operating system because it is the operating system uses more.

If you want to create images and drivers for Linux you need an entire Department and many experts in software to do. I am sure that this kind of project costs a lot of money and it is, in my opinion, not profitable due to the low percentage of Linux users.

Good bye

    Dear everybody

I am writing this letter to express my great disappointment for Toshiba support. I use Linux for various reasons, and if they do not want to support me, and more, my choice to buy this laptop, they shouldn't find CHEAP tricks like the one that has bluetooth. It's the same thing that I paid a lot of money to deal with this attitude.

    Only these few words.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hello Nisok

I understand, but you also have to be realistic with all this. What kind of support do you expect? Linux is not officially supported for operating system. If you use unsupported Os, you're on your own.

You can share your experiences with others on various Linux forums. They may offer more assistance as the official support from Toshiba.
Even if you are disappointed there is no reason for these unjustified comments.

  • How much better the partition of the HARD drive for dual boot: Windows 8 and Linux

    Hello

I am a newbie in Windows 8, linux, Partition...

I want to use my new laptop with windows 8 pre-installed on the following:

Create a Dual Boot Windows 8 / Ubuntu
Create on my drive C (single disk on my laptop):

    * a partition for the system
    * one for Windows 8
    * one for data and
    least for Ubuntu OS

    My goal is:

-to install VmWare on Windows 8 and run Splat Checkpoint with virtual machines to make the FCTC laboratories.

to install GNS3 on Ubuntu for CCNP Labs but with GNS3 to access the files in the data partition

I have a Toshiba Satellite with 750 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

According to you, what is the best size for my scores?
Is there a better way to partition my C drive on my goal?

    Best regards

I don't know if this is the right section, sorry for that. Feel free to move this thread in the appropriate section *.

I think the size of partitions depends of the you want to use and install other software.
So if you have a lot of software which runs under the Windows System I recommend to choose a larger size to win 8 partition.

However, given that you have a 750 GB HARD drive, you could take 200GB for Win 8, 100 GB to Linux and the rest of the HARD drive size, that you can use for data.

By the way: I found Nice YouTube video how to create a dual boot using 8 Win and Linux http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Yd2jK-7Jg

    Welcome them

  • Satellite Pro 4200 and Linux

Yes. I have still the old 4200. Is that too old for any support? As for Linux? Anyone know of any good distributions that I could use? I tried Fedora Core 3 but it is really too large and affects stability. My live Ubuntu CD won't even load, which is quietly, as I don't quite like Ubuntu. I've got MEPIS Linux. Someone at - it tried?

Is it possible to get drivers for the monitor? I have re-installed Win98 "and now the screen is really small or the resolution is bad.

My goal is to have a dual boot. Grub Boot Win98 as a default and a distribution of linux as a secondary for me.

    Hi Andy

Problem is that Linux is not supported by Toshiba and if you have problems you're alone. If you want, you can check this page. Maybe you can find some information useful http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html.

If you need drivers for your unit you can find them on http://www.toshiba.ca/web/home.

  • Dual boot with Windows 7 and LINUX - Tecra A11 (PTSE1A - 005-00L)

    Hello

I bought a new Tecra A11 computer laptop running WIN7 Pro. I want to install LINUX also. This means that I want to run my laptop in dual boot Win7 Pro/LINUX (a Distributor). Please tell me how to do this.

There are 5 partitions on the HARD disk:
1 active, recovery partiton 1.46 GB (without drive letter)
    2. principal asset C: start 145,04 GB (NTFS)
    3. active logics E: 78,13 GB (NTFS)
    4 active logical F: 64.25 GB (NTFS)
5 primary Partition 9.2 GB (no drive letter, the unknown application)

Hey, I need because I was admitted to a course of RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer)

    Please help me

    Hello

I can't give you a step by step explanation, but most distributions offer today a possibility to coexist with Windows.
When installing the unused free space will be taken by Linux (with the consent of the user of course!)

What exact configuration you need is impossible for someone else to say, but I would say to make the space occupied by the F player available for Linux.
You seem to have of enough space for Windows and Linux operating system doesn't have much.

Some thoughts about setting up your score:

I touch NOT 1,2 and 5 no matter what. They are your system and a system of internal partitions (recovery and data environment) and wouldn't it be fun to lose.

1 active, recovery partiton 1.46 GB (without drive letter)
    2. principal asset C: start 145,04 GB (NTFS)
    3. active logics E: 78,13 GB (NTFS)
    4 active logical F: 64.25 GB (NTFS)
5 primary Partition 9.2 GB (no drive letter, the unknown application)

Then choose a Distro (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora and OpenSuse - suggestion Fedora will be as close as possible associated with RedHat) that will guide you in the steps to allocate space for Linux.
I suggest however to remove the disk F in Windows for Linux does not start from resizing all partitions.
I do not know which works perfectly, but will just take time, and will most probably remain pretty useless drive F.

If you have valuable data on your device, make sure to save! No software comes with warranty :)
Last but not least - make 100% sure to create a collection set using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator before you start the installation of Linux.
If something goes wrong you have the opportunity to put the unit in factory condition.

Good luck and keep asking you if you need extra help!

  • Dual-boot Windows and Linux, but Linux has calendar, TB 31.0

I'm using Linux Mint and Windows 7 dual-boot. I have TB 31.0 installed on each operating system. TB Linux has a capacity of calendar; in Windows, there is nothing (by nothing, I mean no calendars - I can't see their properties, for example, access somehow).

I should add that Windows and Linux TB programs share the same profile folder (located on a separate partition), therefore, all of the same modules, passwords, etc.

The error console records the following:

    Timestamp: 14/08/2014-18:41:33
    Error: Components.classes['@ [cid] is undefined
    Source file: resource://calendar/modules/calUtils.jsm-> file:///P:/PortableApps/ThunderbirdPortable/Data/profile/extensions/%7Be2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103%7D/calendar-js/calUtils.js
    Online: 17

There are a variety of flow on the errors related to this.

My apologies for posting this in this way; I intend to submit this via the crashreporter, but I can't get the program crash with this error earlier.

An answer to my own question: it turns out that, while sharing a profile works quite well for most of the cases, with lightning, he does not, like the extension has different versions of Linux and Windows. The problem is solved very simply: by not using is not the same profile for each version.

Glad to see that no one takes on this one (except me, of course).

  • Satellite A110-180 - update of the Bios for Windows 7 and Linux

    Hello

I want to change the following settings in my bios on my laptop satellite A110-180
    * AHCI for SATA
    Disable the IDE

    But none of these options.
So I thought that maybe I should update my bios.
I found the download page, but there are 2 options: Windows Vista or NO vista, but I want to dual boot windows 7 and linux.

Which one should I download, or is there another option to change the settings?

    Thank you!
    Bart

    Hello

Satellite A110 does not support these options (SATA AHCI).
The update of the BIOS will not help you!

Linux is not supported and therefore, you will not find any special BIOS for Linux OS!

The two BIOS updates are for Win Vista or OS independent.
Therefore, if you use other than Vista OS then you should throw the update of the independent BIOS to the BONE!

But as mentioned above; both options will not appear after the BIOS update!

  • Different features of Firefox Windows and Linux.

When I want to navigate to another site, and type the new address on the address of the existing page, that with one click on the version of Windows address nicely takes focus and brands all of the text and overwrite is easy, while with the Linux version, I need to score and remove the existing address to crush. I feel really bad at ease during my current position very long address.

Windows version is XP and Linux Ubuntu 11.04.
Same behavior with Firefox 3 and Firefox 4.

You must double-click Linux - Firefox to select the full URL, but that can be changed.

Type of topic: config in the URL bar and press ENTER.

If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access this page.
Pref. two theses affect this action.

browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll - true on Windows, false on Linux

browser.urlbar.doubleClickSelectsAll - fake Windows, true on Linux

Double-click each of these preferences to switch to the opposite value, and then restart Firefox.

  • Toshiba and their Vista update

What is the problem with Toshiba and Microsoft?

they promise and advertising windows vista on all their computers, laptops and this was one of the reasons that encourage buying Martin one.

Now I have my laptop, it is impossible to register for windows upgrade (http://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/Vista/). I tried 10 times and have sent emails to moduslink and not a single response. It seems even useless and difficult to get in touch with Toshiba.

I get all my details for the toshiba satellite p100-347 and I just get either 21 messages in the end after payment:

-There is an error, please try again later
-You must contact customer support to reactivate your order if you cancel now

That means the second message? Actually, my order went through. are there not any kidn of confirmation? I havn't even received any email or order number to track my order.

    > But it isn't for lack of Toshiba...

    Why lack of Toshiba?

Windows Vista Home Premium costs about 80 EUROS, if order you it WITHOUT the coupon/flyer brand by your computer dealer.

Question do you have a serialized form of redemption Upgrade? What has been your choice? Yes or no?

This whole program is made not only to Toshiba, but for many other manufacturers of mobile and he will be in the company of ModusLink. The same procedure is for customers of Sony, Siemens and so on. Because of that I understood why permanent claim to the producers of the laptop.

Contact this company ModusLink and see what they do and why is the problem. If you have a cupon valid upgrade, you must pay for shipping and handling only.

Dear snipe, I put really t you understand. Of course, you did something wrong. Now, you're probably frustrated and write such stupid comments here. This will not help other users simply make it insecure.

If you post here, then try to help!
Please don t be mad me but nobody don't need stupid comments or some personal opinions without reserve.

  • The mouse no longer works on Satellite Pro A200-1F9 (on Windows and Linux)

Hello. Suddenly, my USB mouse doesn't work on my satellite pro A200-1F9 laptop. I had this same problem on my Linux (Ubuntu Feisty) for the last week or two, but today was the first time that the mouse no longer works in Windows. Ideas for what's gone wrong? (If I boot Linux with the attached mouse, I get an error message when loading upward.) The mouse does not work it is logged at startup or I plug it later).

Under Windows and Linux, the laptop still recognizes my external HD which also has a USB connection...

    Thanks, Shoko.

In my opinion, you should test the USB feature. If you are 100% sure that the USB ports are working well check your mouse or try to use the other.

    Laptop mouse pad still works?

  • Application of Toshiba and install the drivers

Yesterday, I received this email from Support from Toshiba updates:
    -----
The following items have been added or updated on the site Web of Toshiba, last week for the models to which you have subscribed:
    Support bulletins:
The Application of Toshiba and install using the pilots to identify the components preinstalled on a Toshiba computer
    Model: Satellite all
    -----
I clicked on the link and found nothing to download so I guess this is the mode of access to this installation program that has changed. I decided to check my system anyway and tried to follow the instructions.

There is no shortcut to this file in my programs menu or in the subfolder Toshiba menu programs. Where is this file so that I can create a simple shortcut to this installer?

    I use Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

I agree with Ilay. If everything works properly don't change anything. Optimize the preinstalled operating system and some settings to make your computer more efficient and comfortable to use.

You n t need more than that.

  • Problems with WiFi from Toshiba and their lack of support - you're not alone

For those of you out there problems with WiFi on a Toshiba laptop, you're certainly not alone.

Over the past years, I have noticed a growing number of different brands and models of computers laptop toshiba and laptops with the same problem.
Last year, 100% of the toshibas that came in my workshop have had this problem, it is about 75% of the laptops that I fixed.

These models have all hardware wifi (Agere, Intel and Realtek)

The wifi switch is on, on the same computer, some programs to detect as being market, others see it as extinct.
What, it doesn't connect to a same wireless router when used to.

Responses of toshiba were the usual non-professional form response from: it must be the router, try to flip the switch, you have updated the bios?, update the drivers et al.

It is a software problem, and given the number of people on this forum talking about the same issue, it's a great.

Often, I came across the issue of windows for communication services wireless disabled by software of Toshiba and I believe, that it is a conflict between tosh software and various other (zone alarm, windows and al.)

In some cases, the software seems to intervene and to corrupt the OS from windows drivers and interfere with their implementation and enforcement, which is worrying, the software doesn't have to touch all areas. (if not, what is the point of a BONE in layers)

I sometimes managed to force to work (for example manually restart the services), but these solutions are not a "clean way" of doing things.

The most reliable way to solve this problem seems to be, backup your data and reformat back to the manufacturer's specifications, and then immediately uninstall the software from toshiba and update the drivers terribly old (even those on the site are about one year more up-to-date for the model I'm working currently on.) Unfortunately most of my clients is companies that need a LOT of data stored in different saved locations, then a ton of programs specialized to be reinstalled, which is slow and costly.

    Message from TOSHIBA:
Please make it a sticky in this forum for all the REAL solutions, not one of the threads that I watched with your suggestions has been resolved.

If there is little no support for your products in this regard, I will contact the ACCC, choices, and associations of trade fair with an open letter that I ask all customers affected to sign, and I will put a national call for people with the same problem to come forward.

I would like to ask also if you encounter a problem where your wifi stopped working and it does not detect or work, please just post "bump" under here so that we can keep way reasonably clutter free.

I used to recommend Toshiba and Asus for laptops, now, this list is one.

Greetings from the Australia (aus site sent me here for the forums)

    Damien Holley

    +@lonetraider+
You can do what you want but as mentioned above; WiFi problems are not specific to a laptop manufactures, you'll notice WLan issues on computers (laptops, desktops computers) all manufactured products.
I had 4 different books of four various manufacturers and ALL had problems of WiFi, but most problems could be solved by the driver update, change, or reset of the router are.
