  Originally, the PC does not recognize even the original drive. (Not sure what happened there...) Then I followed your "5 steps", open the PC and unplugged and reconnected the cables power and data, in Regedit, F12 and F2 and now the drive will read CDs of music via Itunes, but the habit of reading a photo previously burnt cd. It won't burn a cd. (I burned before CD on this PC)

  When I put in the cd, I hear he's trying to 'catch', but only about 3 waves of tours then... nothing. I have Sonic RecordNow software (supplied with the PC) of engraving and HP photo software and recognize that there is a blank cd - r in the drive D: ready to record.

  My return however (and after the installation of 18 updates last night) the bed DVD player is no longer just about any type of media disc (having already be able to read all).   That means only one disc can be read from your laptop and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion, it could be a disc problem, maybe it's striped s and so it can t be read to all readers.

  In your case, I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore, you can use a microfibre cloth.

  Computer laptop Dell Vostro 1500 with XP Professional, my TSSTcorp L632H DVD player will not read my Windows 8 upgrade disk.

  It will read other DVDs. I've updated the firmware.

  The properties of the drive is display type as unknown file system CD player with blue disk image but used space and free space as 0.

  By using Device Manager, when I ask him to fill the volume is the disk CD 0, Type DVD, free media, not applicable Partition Style, capacity, space Unallocate status and placeholder show all 0.
