• Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite U940 - startup of: SSD

  Hi guys,.

  I think buy Toshiba Satellite U940. The reason is that he a dimmable-up ultrabook so I'll buy 16 GB of ram and a 120 GB of msata SSD. I'm going to install ubuntu. But because I'm not sure that two important things, I would ask you first.

  1. can you the msata SSD was seen directly from the bios? I want to install ubuntu on it and also to have my case start and all programs there. I ask this question because I read somewhere msata SSD it is only for the purpose of the cache and cannot be seen directly because it is in RAID mode. So can we get around this thing from the bios? I just only to manipulate the msata SSD as a disk driver normal in my bones. It is this possible?

  Good to hear about your projects!

  I can't answer your question exactly since I don't have the necessary information to do so.
  However, I can tell you some things that can help!

  The RAID configuration is purely software-rendering. So it can be removed from f.ex Ubuntu disk-tool.
  I installed Fedora on the U840 and U940 that have the same RAID on an internal SSD flash drive and internal HARD drive.

  The RAID can easily be removed and that make storage devices appears as installation targets unique (e.g. SDA and SDB).

  However, I can't tell you if any data 3' rd party SSD will work in the U940.

  My Setup was when I used the 32 GB SSD as a target for the OS - which is actually a LOT of space for an OS Lnux.
  The internal HARD disk has been mounted as HOME.
  In this way, I had the speed of the SSD for all operations of the system (boot, updates...) while having massive storage HARD drive for personal data.

  Regarding the drivers, I think in addition to the basic features should work (WiFi, screen, sound, etc).
  In my tests, I noticed (but is no intensive testing is) no problem don't except the backlight on the keypad was not working on older kernels.

• Need help to install ubuntu on old Toshiba Satellite 1130-Z23

  I have a big problem. I want to install Linux Ubuntu on my old laptop Toshiba Satellite 1130 - Z23. I tried a lot of things. I installed wubi and created an additional partition with fat 32 for it. When I first started ubuntu wubi has been downloaded correctly and my system again. I now had a menu of boot with ubuntu, but when I chose ubuntu I get only a screen. Ubuntu will proceed with installing please wait... nothing happened. After 10 minutes the screen becomes black :-(((

  However, I use Linux Knoppix Live CD. It of not necessary to install this hard drive.
  Maybe it s an option for you.

  I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite L755-1J9 PSK2YE maybe it's coincidence but was upgraded to Windows 10 and stopped working the audio.

Recently I have updated the BIOS to version 1.50 and now I am able to install Debian and PCLinuxOS, but again, they do not work as they should work. No supported wireless without ACPI support, can not put comp. in hibernate or sleep etc...

  Can someone tell me if there are any linux distro with which it can work with this model without any major problems?

  As much as I know Toshiba does not all drivers for Linux systems.
  You will have to search at your own hand but generally all the drivers are part of the distribution and devices should be recognized automatically.

  I bought new toshiba satellite C640 with windows 7, I don't want to use windows... so I switched to ubuntu...

  Toshiba a665d-s6091 couldn't get ubuntu 8, 9, load to load from direct c. ubuntu 10 and 11. 11, all I had to do was select in Start menu and it started end of the live cd. 10 is the long term support so I installed to sdhc that is not reconigzed at startup. I then installed to restart computer usb thumb drive, and only windows would charge. Ubuntu is on the menu, but it does not load. Then I removed the usb drive that is enabled on the computer and nothing. My computer is not something with usb output. • Toshiba Satellite A105-s2236 recovery problems

  I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-s2236, which crashed by some kind of virus.  I did a recovery for her disc, but he lost and must have the computer for the class.  I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on thinking that if I got the recovery disc, I would be able to go back.  Long story short, no recovery disk.  It came with windows Vista Home Basic and I have the product key.  What choices do I have?  Thanks in advance for any help.

  Contact Toshiba and see if they can send you another set of recovery disks (it can be a light load, but it's cheaper than a new operating system).  Some systems allow you to make the recovery partition recovery disks - I don't know if you can do what you are currently Setup, but it is possible - again once you need to talk to Toshiba about.  Other PC still allows a system reinstall recovery partition by pressing a certain combination of keyboard during startup - I don't know if this applies to you, but Toshiba knows.

  Another option is to borrow a disk to install Windows Vista genuine of ANYONE and allows it to proceed with the installation (they are not protected against copying).  You must use your own product key and that would determine which version of Vista has been installed.  Here's how to do a clean install with Windows Vista (which must be modified slightly if you use the discs recovery or partition of recovery of the manufacturer according to their instructions): http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_install_03.asp.
