transfer large files

I'm trying to transfer a large file video AVCHD 7.3 GB of my portable hp7 to a flash drive or drive hard usb. Despite trying various devices and have more than enough detached 450 GB of memory! When I try to move the file, I get an error message saying that the file is too large to move. I can move the file internally on the pc. I am using windows 7 and have been moved successfully to 4 GB files on USB.

Thank you John d

Hi John,.

Maybe it's because your USB and external HARD disk are formatted in FAT32 - try the following.

First of all, make sure that there are no important file on the USB as the next process will delete the.

Insert the USB stick into your PC, cancel no matter what Autorun window, click on the Menu start, open the computer, left click on the USB key once to highlight and then right-click and select Format.  Under file system, select NTFS from the drop-down list, and then click Start.

Once this done, see if you can now copy 7.3 GB file on the USB.

Kind regards

  • Transfer large files from an old computer to a new one

Recently, I bought a computer and I want to transfer large files (ranging from 5 GB to 8 GB) to the new computer of the former, on what they are. I tried to put them on a USB stick 32 GB, but the thing does not accept files greater than 4 GB. I'm really frustrated and I need help to transfer these files.

You can format your USB to allow him to manage larger files.  Here's how:

    1. Plug the USB on any computer
    2. Press +E on the keyboard to open the file Explorer.  Go to the 'Computer' or 'This PC' section.
    3. Right click on the USB key and choose the Format
    4. Choose the NTFS file system type from the menu drop down and use the option "quick format".

      * WARNING: All DATA on the USB key will definitely be deleted.* *.

    5. Click OK and confirm that you want to erase all data on the USB key.

Once completed, you can then use the USB to transfer your files.

  • Transfer of large files on home network freezes and stop the transfer

I have a HP Desktop running Windows 7 and laptop HP on Vista 64-bit. I have two networked computers on a home network with a 3Com network 10/100 16-port switch.  When I try to transfer files greater than approximately 2.5 gigabytes between two PCs, file transfer will hang and stop after about 2.5 gigabits. Below the size of this file, generally no problem, the transfer ends. The two PCs have file sharing turned on and as mentioned on any file less than 2.5 gigabits transfer / very well.  Is there some sort of transfer of files, size limit on Windows Vista and 7 OS?  Are there settings that I can change to allow to transfer large files? I got an old Sony PC running Windows XP and I could transfer files more than 2.5 gibabits to my storage device shared networked home without any problem.  But under Vista and 7 OS, even once, I can't transfer any file more 2.5 gigabits to my home network shared storage device.  Anyone has any ideas how to solve this problem? Thank you. NEOhio123

I fixed this problem on my laptop running Windows Vista 64 bit. I remembered that first of all, this started occurring after that I used the IOLO System Mechanic 9 network optimization tool to optimize the settings of my network on my laptop.  So I ran the cancellation on my Windows Vista laptop, and now the laptop with Vista will once more to transfer large files. If a note to all of you who use System Mechanic... do not function of optimization of the network on a Vista PC tool run... .or if you wash and start experiencing problems of transfer of large files... run the cancel this function and rebooting.  You should be able to transfer large files again. I just sent IOLO an email to warn of this problem with the optimization tool of the network within their product of System Mechanic 9.

UNFORTUNATELY, my new desktop computer running that Windows 7 has still this problem , it stops file transfers after about 2.5 gigabits are sent to my device of storage attached to the network or the laptop. I learned that this seems to be a problem in a way. I can pull large files of my storage device, network or laptop, I can not just to transfer large files to these devices with the Windows 7 desktop. So if anyone has any ideas of how to resolve this problem of transferring large files with Windows 7, I would appreciate your insight.

  • Formatted NTFS disks flash freeze computer during the transfer of the (large) files

Let's first, I tried KB976972 and does not work for me, it actually returns to "the update is not applicable to your computer" (probably because I don't have an NVIDIA USB chipset).
Also I don't know of any computer in the past, I a tailor-made with i7 box 3770 with 16g of RAM, I won't go into detail here because I had this problem with previous Office (also an i7 but first gen) so that pretty much excludes material. The OS of choice is Windows 7 64 bit.

The problem occurs when I try to copy files on flash memory drives formatted in NTFS (or readers of thumb if you want) (large). Tested readers are all Verbatim with writing speeds on 10megs per second with a capacity of 8 to 32g. The copy process lance "strong" with the window showing whimsical speeds copies anywhere between 500 to .9g per second and abnormally fast progress bar fills. Who finally stops before the end, after what looks like no more than 10 seconds or more, the time when the computer crashes somehow. The core of the operating system seems to be working, I can switch apps, ctrl-alt-del (Nothing kills the CPU or the whole system right now BTW), all the work of gadgets Google desktop (monitors refresh as expected), but real-world applications are frozen and in fact, if I try to tinker with them they will eventually become "inadmissible." After some time (a full, if not minute more) resumes the copy process, and the whole system will become responsive again. However, if the file is large enough this episode of gel repeat several times until it is completed.
While readers LED flash Flash normally and consistently throughout. There are no errors with the transferred files.

The question is NOT triggered by the large transfers with several smaller files. For example if I copy a whole folder 5g with images, the process will be less than the normal surface of 100%, the reported speed will be credible (about 7 m/s), the computer cling not or anything like that. However, if I try a single file of 5g hang episode repeat 2 or 3 times.

As I mentioned previously the material can't be at fault, the disks themselves work perfectly and normally if formatted FAT32 or exFAT so there may be a problem with them either. The problem is only manifest with structure of NTFS files AND large files.

Any ideas will be appreciated. THX

    Hello

I understand that you can not transfer large files via USB key.

    1. is the question confined to a particular file?
2 have you tried with another USB drive?

    3. do you get an error message when you try to transfer?
4 have you connected the USB even to another computer and check if you're able to transfer large files?

I would suggest trying the following steps and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

Try to convert the NTFS file system and check if you are able to transfer files.

    1. click on start
    2. type cmd in the start search box
    3. right click on cmd in the menu and choose Run as administrator.
    4. in the command line type convert /FS: NTFS

    Method 2:

Uninstall all USB entries in Device Manager.

    1. click on START
    2. right click "Computer" and select "Properties".
    3. on the left side, click on Device Manager.
    4. expand the 'USB Bus controllers' category
    5. right click and uninstall all THE references listed
    6. restart your computer and check if it works.

  • Windows XP - a problem to transfer big file from laptop on an external hard drive

I have a problem to transfer large files (mail.pst - zipped file - 5Gbyte) of the laptop (Dell Latitude D630) on an external hard drive (WD 320 G - FAT 32) where each time, I got the message "there is not enough free space on the disk" although I did successfully drive clean on both sides and there is enough space on both sides (not less than 25 GB).

Also, I did a checkdisk command and he succeeded, and I use Windows XP

I did several tests to resolve and in the end, I found that I convert the format of external hard drive FAT 32 to NTFS, and then I could successfully transfer the file.

    I used the following commands:

    (1) command line then chkdsk to repair bad sectors

    (2) convert the command line to change the format to FAt 32 to NTFS

Note: For Windows xp, "convert" command will not delete the files from the hard drive

  • When I send a large file, it repeats (sends) again and again until I delete it from the Outbox, it is a virus, a problem of microsoft or roadrunner?

When I send a large file, it repeats (sends) again and again until I delete it from the Outbox, it is a virus, a problem of microsoft or roadrunner?

    Hi thxfour,

Got your problem about sending large files by e-mail.
If I'm just guessing you use a such as MS Outlook or Outlook Express e-mail client!
    If Yes, then,.
I inform you that the as soon as you click on the button to send your e-mail client. The content of this particular mail sending process begins. The process continues until the last byte of data is transferred. Now, email clients (almost all) are designed to send the contents of a mail only once and not resumeable parts. Now, each time while you send mail with the content inside, it must go in one piece. However, if there is some sort of interruption in the internet connection, the content is not completely transferred. The remains of mail in the Outbox and automatically transfer begins as soon as the internet connection resumes. When the mail is deleted from the Outbox send is stopped because the source is no longer available.

This thing happens generally when sending large files on a slow speed or internet medium given that the execution time is more emails compared to normal.
Run time means more chances to get an interruption in internet connectivity.

    * It is advisable to use an application to transfer files to transfer large files over the internet instead of emails. File transfer can transfer large files (in GB), and if there is no interruption in the internet connection, you can resume the download.

    Best regards

  • 3 GB MD033 Time Capsule data rate lowers up to 5 MB/s during the transfer of large files

    Hello, guys!

My MD033 (2011) / 3GB TimeCapsule lowers throughput for the disk transfers built up to 5 MB/s.

Is this a bug or feature?

This bug has been present for early 2013. Since then, I changed 2 iMac 27 and 1 iMac, retina. Traded my TC three times by Apple Care coverage. Change a cable connection from TC to iMac twice. Problem remains. A persisted on all platforms of Cougar to El Capitan.

Video which revealed a problem can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b3ve9w53ixru5rv/IMG_0700.MOV?dl=0

It ALWAYS happens. No exclusion. Sooner or later, transfer rate drops to 3-5 MB/s

NOTHING similar happens when I copy a large file to a PS located in the same network. 50 - 70 MB/s ever.

I just work on the same problem thread.

irregular flow oddly with two TCs problem

It starts fast and then slows down to a crawl.

I don't solve it on the other thread... so let me ask how much patience you have and the ability to diagnose network problems?

    I don't have a miracle solution... money.

(Actually a single shot of a 3030 fix it permanently..!)

If you are willing to continue what I'm happy to try...

NOTHING similar happens when I copy a large file to a PS located in the same network. 50 - 70 MB/s ever.

This indicates that the TC is not the question... It's the Mac that has problems. (PS = PlayStation?)

    In the Mac

    You must have OFF wireless.

It is better to use Configuration ethernet with link-local only for IPv6, except if you need full IPv6... Tell me if this is the case.

I do the same thing you are. But I can't reproduce your slowdown.

Open the activity monitor and track your use of the CPU. A single process hits 30% usage during playback... Therefore, it is quite high.

Also check the network. Read (green) and Write (red) make the perfect range scans.

I wonder if the TCP window is set incorrectly by default in your computers... I use a Mac Mini i7 with SSD is fast but 2011.

It is difficult while I can't reproduce the problem.

  • Transfer of large files

I have a few movie files that are more than 4 GB. When I try moving them to my external hard drive a window appears and says that the file is too large to move. The hard drive is formatted in fat32. Is it possible to transfer these files without reformat the external hard drive to NTFS? My OS is Vista Basic, 32-bit. I also have Service Pack 1. The method I use is right-click-drag the file and then say to move.

I know I said originally in the other thread you need to reformat, but that's not true. You can convert the disk with a DOS command (but you can always save something important on the disk, just in case). Go to start > run and type "cmd" in the dialog box and click OK. This will open the DOS command prompt. Now type "convert X: /fs:ntfs" (replacing it with the correct drive letter for 'X').

  • MD1000 thus slows the transfer of large files

We have two MD1000 SAS attached to a Dell R710 Server storage arrays.  During a large file transfer (40 + GB) at one of the tables MD1000 it will slow down the way down for analysis.  It seems as if it is slowing down at the same location every time we try to transfer a file.  The another MD1000 connected to the server has no problems with file transfers.  This only happens when we copy to the MD1000.  Copy of the MD1000 works as it should.  Smaller files transfer copy very well.  The Dell Server Manager shows no errors with everything.  PERC card batteries are low or bad.  Any suggestion is appreciated!

    Hello, jsalyer350.

It seems to me that your PERC could be set in mode 'Writing with' - where data passes the cache and writing "across" the disks. This can be VERY time consuming, because you are waiting for the real moving parts. PERC would be required to be paid in "Writing Back" mode, where you can make using the cache of the and have a single stream of data on the disks.

PERC can be put into "Write-Through" mode if the battery is not, loses the ability to charge to hold the cache, etc. Maybe the battery charge lost and then has been charged, but the setting has never changed.

You should find this setting in OMSA, otherwise after back and let me know.

I hope this helps. Have a great rest of the week.
