Yes. Indeed if you use iCloud photo library and delete a picture of the Photos app on your Mac, it will be also deleted icloud.

If you open the preferences of Photos and click on iCloud at the top of the preferences window and turn on iCloud photo library and also select the 'download for the Mac originals"rather than the"Optimize Mac Storage"option, the original size will be kept on your Mac.

It seems that I can not transfer all my photos to iCloud. Only those taken with an iOS device are transferred, while photos taken with my Canon EOS camera are not. Can anyone explain that?

Please start by telling us your 'My Photo Stream' and "iCloud library" settings on all of your devices. (Settings > Photos & camera on your device iOS and Photos > Preferences > iCloud on your Mac)

Please also indicate if there is no activity current synchronization on any of your devices (includes download, update, download, or preparation).

  • Moved from my library of Photos to iCloud by car and now the pictures will not open it...

I thought being smart and transfer my library of Photos to iCloud by car so I can access all my devices, but now the pictures won't open it. I hold down the Option key when starting the Photos and told to open the library moved in my world of iCloud drive. He complains about the library in an incompatible format (or something similar). If I move just back off iCloud drive to any where in my regular Finder file system then pictures is perfectly fine opening of the library. What the heck! Anyone know what is happening or that seemingly obvious thing does not work why?

Yes... I think the library should be 'local' to your Mac. It can live on a USB key and maybe even a network drive, but I do not expect any level of performance with her on the cloud. If you think you can avoid to keep your phone synchronized with iCloud and still have access to all of your library, it won't work.

Apple don't tell you not to do it, but they said this without mentioning iCloud drive...

  • Photos - photos of iCloud - several users share data bases

Hi hoping someone can point me in the right direction here as it is driving me crazy!

New Mac mini, OS X and photos app.

Basically, I want to share a unique data base of Photos between two users on the same Mac accounts. Have followed all the advice online, I'm always running into difficulty. I put the database on an external SSD with permissions in place for any user access to the base (but only one at a time of course).

All very well so far, but here comes the question. I want pictures of iCloud enabled on one of the accounts with complete download of all pictures to iCloud, when I get out of the photos, the photolibraryd process remains active. This means that when I change the account and you are trying to access the photos, I can't because photoslibraryd in the other account is accessed again. To work around this I started to enter photoslibraryd monitor and the murder of activity as well as the Photos itself before you log in to the second account and to access the Photos. This seems to work (but is a bit of a pain if I forgot!) - which is a lot more pain, it's that if I add some photos in the second account and then go back to the first, rather than synchronize the new photos with iCloud, product photos across the entire library 20,0000 resynchronization photo! It's bad!

I have approached the wrong way? Is there a better way to achieve what I want - that is entirely database of shared photos between two users on the same Mac (with photo stream enabled on both accounts for these devices which have not iCloud photo activated) and iCloud photo enabled on one of the Mac accounts - without killing the process or any what fees General massive sync?

    Grateful for any help.

    Thank you very much

    Rich.

It is not possible to share a library of photos between several users, if the library in question is your system library. If you cannot share the library used as the iCloud photo library with others.  If you want to share photos with others, use a separate library of Photos to share and transfer photos from there to your iCloud library.

I found this in the documentation for PowerPhotos:

    : https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos/Help/sharing%20a%20library%20between% 20multiple%20user%20accounts%20on%20one%20mac.html

Share a library between several user accounts on a Mac

Photos is not designed with use multi-user in mind, which makes it very difficult to create a configuration where only one library of Photos are accessed through accounts on your Mac. If you want to share a library in this way, the following restrictions will be applied (for the bottom of discussion, we have two users named A and B we want to share a library):

    1. Account that a single user can never open a library given in Photos at the same time. Before you can use the shared library as long as the user has, make sure to leave Photos as user B.
    2. None of the user accounts that access the library may designate as their "library system". The library system is actually open at any time by OS X in the background, as long as that user is connected, even while quitting smoking pictures not free the library so that another user can open. You must designate another library system library, or completely close the session user B before trying to access the library as user A. Note that this also prevents having this synchronization of library with iCloud.
    3. The library cannot be stored on your internal drive or any other drive where the permissions are respected. Fighting against the permissions on OS X is a losing battle. While you can play whack-a-mole to try to correct the permissions on the library before you open it, then something goes wrong and it is likely that you will be unable to access a part of your library. You should keep the library on an external drive and in the read window information in the Finder, make sure the checkbox "Ignore permissions on this volume" is checked.

  • Send photos to iCloud photo library - referenced files

I am trying to transfer photos to ICloud library and get the message error "775 files referenced in your library don't download not to ICloud photo library" when doing the research on this site I found how to make a smart file of the "referenced files" and selected "consolidate."  When I do that, it says "Allow photo to access your media" and tells me to choose a folder "sub" and where to find.   When I find the folder and select it I get the message "Cannot find the original file IMG_4515.JPG" when I go out and look for this Image and as always is a duplicate I then go back and go through the process again only so he could tell me another photo it does not remove it.  I get the sense he'll browse all 775 files in this way?  Help?  What should I do to get rid of these referenced files?  and if I find them in the photo and delete them is that going to help?  When I search the photo in the finder can't find something?  I am, once again, at a loss?  It seems that my system continues to download on iCloud, as the number of downloads is moving?

and get the message error "775 files referenced in your library don't download not to ICloud library"

It is not an error message, this is just a warning.  You can ignore other photos upload nevertheless.

What should I do to get rid of these referenced files?  and if I find them in the photo and delete them is that going to help?

If you are sure, that all of the referenced photos are duplicates, delete the photos in your smart album "referenced". I would create a copy of your photo library on a backup drive, before you do. In this way, you will be able to come back later, if you notice any missing files.

  • Photo and iCloud

If I drop a picture in pictures (sync iCloud on) it get stored on the hard drive? I don't want to take place HD but I don't want to see (and do it on iCloud).

If you import your photos into Photos for Mac application, it will be stored in the photo library. If the photo library is on your system drive, the photo will use storage indeed here. You can keep your photo library on an external drive and connect only to your MBA to import the photos and upload them to iCloud photo library.

Or, enable the option "Optimize Mac Storage".  Then the photo library will be low, because that only smaller optimized versions will be stored on your Mac and the original size will be in iCloud.

Or, do not use pictures for MAc, but download the photos using the web interface at www.icloud.com. You can use the Photos.app it to transfer photos to iCloud.

How can I transfer my photos to an external HD mediathek?

I m using an iMAC with OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan and Fotos 1.2 9.1.

    Hi NordundSued,

If you want to store your photo library on an external drive, the process is as simple as (after checking that the photo is not open) copy the existing photo library on the external hard drive, and then at the opening of the Photos with the option key and choosing this library. Once you have verified that the library works correctly from the external hard drive, you can go ahead and delete the original if you want to free up space.

By default, your system library is stored in the folder of images on your Mac, but you can move it to another location on your Mac, or store it on an external storage device. To use iCloud services, however, the external storage device must be formatted using the format Mac OS extended (journaled), also known as HFS +.

    Switch between any libraries

    1. If photo is open, choose Photos > Photos of quit smoking.

    2. Hold down the Option key and double click on the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click on the pictures of the Dock icon) to open the pictures.

    3. In the select Library dialog box, do one of the following:

      • Click the library that you want to use, then click on choose a library.

      • If the library you want does not appear in the select Library dialog box, click other library, navigate to the location of the library, select it, then click on choose a library.

Designate a library as the library of the system

You can switch to another library and designate as the photo library of the system. For more information on the considerations to keep in mind when it designates another picture of system library, see Overview of the system of the library.

To designate the current library as the library of the system:

Choose Photos > Preferences, click general, and then click on use as Photo library system.

Important: If you switch to another library, Photos automatically turns off all iCloud services. To use iCloud photo library, iCloud, sharing photos and my photo stream with a library of pictures newly designated system, you must activate them again in the Photos of iCloud preferences pane. When you turn on iCloud library after designation of a new library system, photos stored in iCloud are merged with those of the Photo library new system. Once the new Photo system library content is downloaded to iCloud, libraries cannot be split, so it's a good idea to look carefully before modifying your library system.

  • Why iOS occasionally devices need to reload all of the Photos in iCloud?

We have about 11 thousand photos, shared (sync) among the six Apple devices: 2 MBPs, two iPads and two iPhones. Occasionally, and in response to any event, I'm not sure, choose one of the iOS devices to transfer all his photos on iCloud before getting back in harmony with everyone. Very frustrating. NB., all devices are scrupulously kept to the most recent version of all software. and of course for this many pix we pay for extra storage iCloud. It could also be noted, devices are put in place to contain full originals, not optimized pix. Is there something I can do to avoid these hassles?

This can occur when the software is updated.

  • Photo to icloud

    Hello

I want to put my photos to icloud to free up space on my iPhone.

I am currently running 3 phones and 2 ipads under the one account.

    My questions are:

Pictures of my phone will be accessible on other devices or can I put only my phone?

If I put all my devices to store photos in the cloud, all the photos are mixed in a single accessible file on all devices?

My goal is to store all of the cameras to the cloud stored under each device, accessible only to see photos of each devices in a single place by connecting to icloud.

    Thanks for your help

To do this you will need to use the function "Optimize iPhone storage" under settings > iCloud > Photos.  Remember, you cannot store pictures in iCloud thinking you can remove everything from your device.

Once you turn on iCloud photo library, Yes, the photos will be available on all devices.

No, they will be downloaded to your iCloud library.

  • My photo library iCloud takes 2.5 GB of space, even if it is empty

My photo library iCloud takes 2.5 GB of space, although it contains no photos or videos. I had this problem for about 6 months.

Enter the photo library to iCloud and select 'Disable and remove' turns off iCloud photo library. Delete everything in your Photos app - don't forget to check the shared photos and all the albums. Then, re-enable iCloud photo library.
