  • Failed to get the disk partition information when you add the new data store

    Hello

Update my ESX to version 4 Update 1 (4.0.0, 256968). Now, I'm trying to add a new data store to a cluster in vCenter and receive the following error message when I will review the current structure of the disc "error when configuring the host: failed to get the disk partition information. When I click back, then next, there's no error message but in the formatting window, I get the error "Object reference" not set to an instance of an object.

I see this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to find an appropriate response. Anyone? The interface using CLI instead of vCenter isn't an option (alignment VMFS, workload and so on)

I use Dell R900 with an EMC Symmetrix VMax SAN

The size of the LUN I want to add is 741 GB

    Concerning

    Marius Aulie

If you have a virtual machine for Windows test, you could do the following, to ensure that the logic unit number has a clean partition table:

-set the LUN as a GROSS physical to virtual machine device

-Run diskpart, select the drive and run the CLEAN command

-detach the LUN to the virtual machine

-try to create the data on the LUN VMFS store

The size of the block of the data store where the VM test can be a problem with the above. Due to the size of the LUN, the size of the block of the data store must be at least 4 MB. Attach the LUN to a physical test system could be an alternative.

  • trying to create an ESXi data store on the local drive.  Configuring the host error: unable to update the disk partition information

I'm a newbie on ESXi and don't know what it takes to get ESXi correctly partition my drive SATA 500 correctly.

I will implement a laboratory unit to carry out tests for ESXi and ESXi is not quite correctly the disk partitioning or do not see a good partition in order to create a data store.

This system was able to correctly identify and configure a data store on a small 80 GB seagate SATA disk, however, this isn't quite enough storage so I swapped the hard drive and tried to re - install ESXi on the new hd.

I use a USB boot ESXi since and it is launched and configures the card intel pro1000 pci ethernet correctly.  also correctly the id of the cpu and memory.  everything seems fine and he is even able to see the hard drive.

Here are some screenshots of the process that I go through to make my data store...

on this photo-sous the column titled 'available' is 'none', also said, under the title 'san identifier' he said 'not applicable' - I guess that's not quite right?

    and disappointment - failure?

I tried to go into the bios if there are some settings I need to do to get this hard drive set up... I don't understand enough about ESXi to find out why the drive is not found and configured correctly.  is this a bios problem w / my system or a problem of ESXi?

    pls help!

You have generally not, but it might be interesting to start with something like a Linux live CD and then using gparted or other to wipe all the top partition information.

  • HARD does not work after changing the disk partitions recovery media creator

    Hello world

After installing windoows 8.1 April major upgrade (win 8.1 presents as OEM), and have shrunk C partition to create a data partition "D", "Troubleshooting" option under advanced start menu is no longer available.

Toshiba Recovery Media Creator does not work, too (it can not find any hard disk recovery partion).
I got in the OEM recovery partition.
I am also able to create a recovery using the Windows tool unit.
You have no idea about it?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

Sorry to hear about all this. Unfortunately, you now have a big problem. I don't understand why you didn't create support of recovery before you started to change the factory settings, including to change the structure of the partitions of HARD drive.

Mobile offered with factory settings a structure specific partitions and recovery recorded image is saved on the partition of drive specific and marked with invisible markers. These markers are visible for preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool and when you start the tool can find points of reference and has full access to specific files.

Unfortunately, after changing the original scores structure Toshiba tool cannot find these markers more and is not able to copy files from recovery media recovery. What you need now is the original recovery disk. Using this disk, you can install original recovery image and after doing this, you will have new factory settings.

I know it sounds stupid now but you must order the original recovery disk and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

If you have any other questions you are welcome.

  • The consolidation of the disks partitioned in Windows XP

    Hello

My friend has a C and a D hard drives local that he partitioned a while ago and now wants to consolidate it (delete partition) in Windows XP, it has 60 GB capacity on the ability of C and 50 GB on D.

We found a computer management screen where we saw the drives C and D.  When we right click on D we found a command that tells

'delete partition' but when we did it she always kept the space allocated for the D in another separate volume of C.

Can I can really consolidate both disks in a C drive that lists 110 GB total capacity?  Do I need a separate utility find you?

    Thank you

    You are welcome.

In general, these utilities are fairly easy to use... but read the instructions before you start.  And although they are not supposed to destroy your data, making backups is always prudent.

  • The disk partitioning and choosing the SSD to install Windows

    Hi all

I'm new to the forum and I hope to get some help with my problem.
Today, I received my new IdeaPad U510 and I love it. But I realize that the operating system is installed on the SATA hard drive instead of being installed on the SSD (for best performance).
I would like someone to help me by telling me: How can I install Windows (with the license that was supposed to come with the purchase of the laptop) on the SSD?
Given that I tried 'set' the OneKey restore but as far as I see, is not allowed.

Thank you very much for your support.

First of all, it is better to be * beep * sure you know what you're doing.
Second, make a bootable Windows USB installation paste and test if it works, just to be sure. Back up your data. Go to the BIOS, disable the TSRI, then set it to SATA AHCI (from RAID or AUTO) mode. Save and reboot. Now you start the installer, repartition your SSD drive (I would recommend going for the TPG plan, it is the only way to boot with UEFI, which has some advantages, that is to say more fast start) and install Windows.
After that, disable hibernation, windows etc backups so that the free space of your SSD gets to zero after a week of use.
Keep in mind that this will break your OKR feature, which is not useful anyway if you're a power user.

  • Why the disk partitions?

My laptop is Dell XPS 15z

Is this ok to remove the scores provided by the manufacturer? I have two partitions other than the primary (c).

You should have them removed during your installation of Windows 8.  They are not good at most, so go ahead and delete them.  You may need to run a "Startup Repair" Windows before it will again start well.

  • How to increase the size of the disk partition VMware Studio.

    Hello

I installed the VMWare Studio unit on ESX 4.0 host system. I've been running more disk space for builds, so I wanted to provide more space for the SCSI in ESX, Edit-settings of the Virtual Appliance. I increased the size to 256 GB SCSI disk.

I then went to the guest VMWare Studio system, and the device/dev/sda5 displays always only 30 GB, and 12 GB is exhausted. How can I make the Guest OS from VMWare Studio unit see the increase in size?

I tried to use "parted", but this fails because/dev/sda5 is mounted. "' I can't umount/dev/sda5 as/dev/sda5" is ongoing. " I am aware of the 1004047 of the Knowledge Base article, but it is of no use, because is not specifically for VMWare Studio unit.

    Thank you.

If you have a lot of disk space on the ESX Server, yes creating and adding a new virtual disk (vmdk) to the VM Studio is the way to go. Mount the new drive for the Studio colleagues OS (Ubuntu), and the key is/opt/vmware/www/build simple installation on the new disk to create the new space drive for Studio use. Don't forget to back up your existing data in this directory first. See http://communities.vmware.com/thread/244715?tstart=0 for the similar explanation. Let us know how it goes.

  • transfer of files on hard disk partitions

My laptop has a hard drive that is partitioned into two equal parts (C) and (D). (C) are registered all built-in such as documents folders, with the result that this hard drive is almost full, while (D) is left blank.

How can I move documents, photos etc files to (D) to free up space on (C), or you can also delete the score quite that I don't need really?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

When you try to extend C (no retractable D), what happens?  Do you have an error message and if so, what does mean EXACTLY?

Try to download and the use of Easeus Partition Manager (the free editiion); http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/07/08/EASEUS-partition-manager-free-download/ and see if that will do the job for you.  Specific courses for this task, it could very well do the trick.

    I hope this helps.

  • Problem loading my BootCamp Partition after the partitioning of the disk again

    Hello

I have a problem that I can't find everywhere are talking about here. Everything worked well. My BootCamp partition ran out of space. I wanted to increase the size of the partition, because I really have a lot of space on the Mac side.

I ended up searching and following the procedure here:

    https://discussions.Apple.com/message/24377993#24377993

"1) back up all your files (optional, but highly recommended)."

    (2) using the disk utility OSX resize MacintoshHD partition unallocated space leaving as much as you need to add to the bootcamp partition.

    (3) set the Bootcamp startup disk and restart the mac.

    (4) in Bootcamp with Windows running launch Mini Partition tool and select the bootcamp partition.

    (5) choose the option "expand" to extend the partition using all unallocated space.

    (6) the program prompt restart you the mac to apply the task, the cause is not possible while the partition is mounted and windows running.

7-restart the mac and then automatically Mini Partition tool will do the job a form of "graphics like msdos. »

I'm in step 3, and that's when I started to have a problem. I resized my Mac partition to have about 100 less GB. Did step number 3, but I got this black screen that says something along the lines of "bootable device found - no. Insert the diskette and press any key any." You know, the message that is displayed when the software that allows the system to boot is not found.

I had to restart, and then press and hold the option key. It's weird. My Mac partition looks great, but the BootCamp partition isn't here. I loaded the side Mac upward, and I can still see my Bootcamp partition in the finder window. I can go in, see all the files and everything. I always choose Windows as my boot target drive. It just won't load.

    How can I fix?

1 Please take the Mini tool. It's a total disaster. Should be prohibited on Macs.

2 Please after the release of the following OSX Terminal commands. Do not change the disk partitioning any further.

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt to enter your password, and there do not appear to come back. You can also see caution against improper use 'sudo' and the potential loss of data due to an "abuse" of the order.

  • Logical disk partition not recognized in the New Installation of Windows

Hello.  I would appreciate someone to give me any advice.  I don't know if the problem I encounter is an oversight on my part, but it was not something that I anticipated.

To give a bit of background, until last week, I was running a Windows 7 system on my computer which included three hard drives (4 TB, 2 TB, and a smaller disk).  The 4 TB drive included my boot drive with Windows on a partition of 2 TB and then the unallocated space has been transformed into a new partition in disk management, received the drive letter G and was used for long term backup of data.

Since then, I built a new computer and installed a new version of Windows 7 on a small SSD.  During this process, I have not all disks connected to the machine (except the DVD player) so that there is no possibility of installation of Windows, do something for these readers I didn't (I got burned by this time long ago when you reinstall Windows 95, which makes me just feel old).  After the whole installation process was performed and the new version of Windows has been working well, I opened the machine and plugged the drive 4 TB and 2 TB, assuming that Windows did not recognize them when I started.

When I started in Windows, Windows does indeed recognize the two drives and assign drive letters.  But in the case of the car of 4 TB, he acknowledges that the partition containing my old boot drive.  No drive letter is assigned to the secondary partition.  When I go to disk management, it shows all of the remaining spaces as unallocated space, but seems not yet quite recognize space completely in the way he would if I'd created directly.  For example, if I right click in that box, I don't get the normal options to create a new Simple Volume.  Everything on this menu is grayed out except properties and help.

So I guess I have two questions.  (Leaving aside the possibility of a hardware problem), was I wrong to assume that a hard drive divided into two partitions could be transferred from a Windows machine to another?  I honestly thought that no matter where no matter what Windows 7 machine would recognize the two drives, but maybe I'm missing something fundamental.

Two and more important still, there advice for access to the data on this drive?

    Hello

A problem that could happen is that the disk partition has security setting so that the profile of the user that created it would be able to access it, and seeing that you are trying to access from a new profile may not not allow you to access

To access these files, you can try to boot from the old hard drive manually to change the setting of the partition or simply manually move the files and delete the partition.

To start from the old disk hard restart have the hard drive is plugged in, restart the computer and while it is booting F12 key to select the boot device, after that, select the old hard disk and access them normally.

    hope this has helped.
