Transfer Windows 7 OEM for VM

I bought a laptop with windows 7 Professional OEM. I reformatted the drive hard drive installed Linux and OEM as a virtual machine using VMware. How can I reactivate it windows so that it is recognized as authentic? I have had several telephone conversations with Dell and Microsoft and get nowhere. The Microsoft EULA allows the OEM be virtualized so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hello

An OEM of Windows version can be virtualized, if the virtual machine is the original installation location.

An OEM of Windows version is related to the first computer where it is installed, it cannot be moved to another computer.

A virtual machine is considered to be a separate computer.

Since your OEM copy has been installed on the hard disk of the computer first, it cannot be moved to a virtual machine.

Win 7 Pro OEM installed on a PC.  Looking to upgrade the motherboard and other main components (will keep HD).

Old MB (ongoing) and the components are put in a new Tower, with a brand new HD.

Because the OS binds at the Mo, can I install/activate the current Win 7 OEM on the new HD that the old Mo will then be linked to the and just buy a new OEM copy to the current system (which becomes the revision, less the HD) and simply plug the new license code for this?

I was wondering what would be the best way to go about it.  Thanks a lot for your time!

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
Yes, you can use the current installation of Windows 7 with the new HARD drive, but the same old MB and processor. Note that activation is possible if MB or CPU is changed and cannot be so MB and processor are both changed, in which case, it will be considered a new/different PC.
Windows activation only deals with MB and processor and does not rely on the HARD drive.
And Yes, you can use the same installation media and enter the new license key to install Windows 7 in new material.
  • I lost my CD of Windows XP OEM for system integrator, but still have the cd - key

    Hello

My system is corrupt and I need to reinstall Windows XP Professional on my computer.

I have lost my Windows XP Professional OEM cd, if I still have the cd - key.

Anyway, or no matter what number I can contact to get a new cd or other alternatives?

    Thank you very much

    New CD no longer exists.

Since you still have the valid key, you need to somehow know is how to get one of these CDs. If you're lucky, you know someone who has one. It will work with your key. But it must be authentic, of course!
If a friend of yours and if they give you an image .iso of it, then you must verify that these are the hash values:

    SHA1: DDA4AC450B2174CAC6C15295711330160C237418
Otherwise, you will probably wind upward with a version riddled with malware (creeping on the Internet of course) and you should certainly avoid at all costs the versions of malware in prey.

    Hi smlunatick,.

Yes the hardware changes can make you reactivate your copy of Windows. If you have a key, you should be able to activate using phone support.

    I hope this helps!

  • Windows 7 OEM 64 bit and OPK kit?

I was told to buy Windows 7 OEM 64 bit. I want it for my own laptop for my own use, mainly for internet, itunes etc. I just saw on the packaging that I must use the OPK to install it, it is essential because I obviously do not have and not was not recommended, I still would.

The OPK is used by professional system integrators to prepare your computer before it is sold to a customer and make sure that things like the EULA is accepted.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

OEM licenses must be installed by professional system manufacturers. Under Microsoft's OEM license agreement, they should not be sold to end-users under any circumstances, must be preinstalled on a computer using the preinstallation OEM (OPK) before delivery to the customer and include to the at least the manufacturer contact information. They are, therefore, designed for installation only on a single computer and are not transferable, even if the original computer is no longer in use. This isn't usually a problem for users who buy a new computer, because systems that most pre-assembled systems ship with a preinstalled operating system. There are very few circumstances where Microsoft will allow the transfer of licensed OEM for a non-functional system to another, but the OEM System Builder License Agreement (SBLA), as well as the EULA (EULA) OEM contract don't contain any provision for this, it is entirely at the discretion of Microsoft, depending on the situation

Your motherboard breaks down, unless the replacement card is the same your OEM version will no longer turn on and can not be moved or transferred to another computer.

OEM of Windows 7 versions have the following limitations of 'important ':

    (1) OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

    (2) OEM licenses are tied to the computer 1 you install and activate it on.

    (3) you cannot reuse/reinstall an OEM version on another computer or another/replacement motherboard.

    (4) the OEM versions cannot be used to upgrade an earlier version of Windows, you must perform a

  • transfer a license OEM Windows 8 pro?

    Hello

I currently have the Windows 8 pro 64-bit OEM-based computer (on my box it says Windows 8 pro eng intl for OEM software/Microsoft windows 8 pro 64 bit oem English fqc-05995)
I built the computer myself and bought this Windows 8 from Amazon for £110, I think. My motherboard is about to go but I'm rebuilding my computer, so new motherboard, processor, RAM, so I have to reinstall Windows 8 on the new pc.
My question is... am I able to transfer the license from one pc to the other (the two mines, a fit for the bin) that I have to disable my current license first? and how can I do this.
Or can I build my new pc, format the drive, install Windows 8 and reuse the key?
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Yes, the Windows 8 OEM System Builder License comes with the rights of transfer, you can move it to a new motherboard and reactivate by phone:

Whenever you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the previous computer. You can not transfer the software to share licenses between computers. How to use transfer windows for xp to xp.  When I plug usb computers are delivered to the top with the same screen and when I try to use the transfer to the new computer, it just said information gathering and sits for hours

    Hello, welcome.

The process is automatic and the maximum transfer rate should be about 20 GB/HR. If the process crashes during that long of a time, it's probably because of something internal rather something you're doing wrong.
For reference purposes, I included this link. It goes into the details of the migration from XP to Vista (and the basic steps you follow). The instructions are for migrating to Vista via the network, but you can easily follow the steps and choose a different option for your specific installation.
For both machines, I recommend you to prepare for the transfer using the following procedure:
    1. click on START > run
2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter
    3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed
    4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right
DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AGAIN
    5. click on START > run
    6. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Right-click on the result at the top of the menu START and select 'run as administrator '.
    7. type chkdsk /r and press enter
8 allow the system to attempt disassembly of the volume
    9. allow the system to plan restarting
    10. restart your computer
11 let checkdisk analyze the file system on your hard drive
    12. Once completed, perform the same steps on the other machine
    13. Once completed, repeat the transfer
