transition from iPhoto to Photos app on iMac

My application on the iMac iPhoto became atomically Photos. How can I get Photos app on my iMac?

The Photos.app will be automatically installed if you upgrade your Mac to Mac OS X 10.10.3 or a newer system.

The system listed in your signature profile Mac OS X (10.5.2), does not support the new Photos.app.  What system currently installed?

I have several print projects on the road in iPhoto.  Initially, I learned that these projects will not pass to the Photos without any problems.  Maybe so, but I lose some of the formatting and layout when I do.  For example, a layout 6-photo on iPhoto turns into 2 pages of Photos and the text appears in a new font without formatting - e.g., italic, bold, etc.. To help work with the projects that I just upgraded to an iMac 27 ".  What I want to do is to find a download of iPhoto and continue to work in the old application, but I can't find a source for downloading.   Any thought of a download source or suggestions about the hoe maintain the formatting of iPhoto?

You need iPhoto 9.6.1 - if you have it on any system you should be able to download it from the App store using the apple ID which is joined

  • The transition from iPhoto (old Mac) to Photos (new Mac) - advice?

Just bought a new MBP and all OS improvements that accompany it. Still using 10.9.x on my old unit and have migrated manually everything that I need, except my pictures. To make matters a little more difficult, I used iPhotoBuddy as well, so I have several libraries. Anyone have advice on how to manually transfer the files to the new MBP less difficult/most effectively?

    All advice appreciated. Thank you.

    3. There is no way to merge libraries with Photos (or iPHoto) - you can on your old system using Aperture or iPhoto Library Manager or on the new system using PowerPhotos - or you can continue to use the libraries under Photos mutiple (usually not a good idea, but if you like it you can)

  • Transfer pictures from iPhoto to Photos

I transferred all my photos in iPhotos pictures when I first put in place. I imported more photos from my iPhone in iPhotos. How can I transfer the of iPhotos Photos?

You'd better transfer your photos directly in the Photos, when download you them from your iPhone.

Photos don't have the tools to move photos from an iPhoto library into an already existing photo library.

Now that the photos in your iPhoto library, export them iPhoto: select all new photos in iPhoto and use the command "file > export". In the export Panel set 'gender' to the 'Original '.

Then import the photos exported in the Photos app.  Pictures of launch and use "file > import".

  • understand the flow of photos from iPhoto library photos vs vs

I just transfer a bunch of photos from an external hard drive in my iPhoto library.  I created several new Albums right here.  The problem is that my photos are not displayed when I click on the Photos icon on my menu bar.  Also new albums and photos will appear not on my iPad via the photo stream.  I don't understand how the 3things: I picture library, photos, photo stream, work-sharing app.  How to do all of my albums (and the photos in these albums) duplicate in all (or appear to) all my devices?

Migrating from iPhoto to a Photos library library affects only the photos in the iPhoto library in time. Photos and albums added to the iPhoto library after that will be in the iPhoto library unless you also import the photos into your photo library and set and fill albums.

Albums are not spread through my photo stream, only by iCloud photo library.

The new model is of approximately:

    * Use only the Photos app and the library of Photos on your Mac (s). After the initial migration, ignore iPhoto and its library.

    * Use iCloud photo library as the repository ignoring my photo stream unless you have devices that don't support icloud photo library (for most older iPods). You may need to increase your storage plan iCloud to organize all your photos and videos.

    * Use the Photos app on your iPhone (s) and iPad (s) with iCloud as library active. Again, my photo stream is necessary only if you have devices that don't support icloud photo library. You can use the option "optimize storage' to save the storage space on your iPhone (s) and iPad (s).

  • iPhoto and photo apps, put photos in files?

I recently bought a 2014 refurbished MacBook Pro and found that the iPhoto update is not available to the Canada and was not long rendered unusable app. All my photos have, therefore, to be added to the normal photos app. In the photos app, I have not been able to find a way to put my photos in files without putting them in two different places. Has anyone found a way to put their photos in folders without doing that? And putting pictures in two separate locations takes extra space on the computer? I have over 1000 pictures on my computer and really want them to be in the files so that they are easy to manage, but I don't want to take more space on my computer. I just switched to Mac, a Windows system and it's the only thing that I find I miss on windows and don't like Mac computers.

    several things

update to iPhoto information see can't update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

Yes, if you have two photos places (in the library of Photos and outside it) you will be double used space

Photos can use a referenced library, but it is a very bad idea, there is no advantage and accumulated several problems for the future - and is not recommended

Probably the answer for you is to use different software that works the way you want - Photos is a modern database manager that uses the non-destructive editing and cannot be used with your wishes of a destructive file based editing system - you can change the software or change your workflow to modern methods

One of the rules of life is that people don't like the things that they do not understand - so either change and use something you understand or learn the new system if you do not understand it or you will continue to be unhappy

  • Move photos on external hard drive after migrating from iPhoto to Photos

I have a lot of photos and have you run out of space on my MacBook.  After doing some reading, I discovered that I should be bale to move my library to an external hard drive, then the point of Photos to run from the external hard drive.

I have recently updated to El Capitan, and as part of this upgrade that my photos have been migrated from iPhoto to the Photos.  I just checked the current location of my library and I found two.  One is named Photo library and which resembles the pictures one use which makes sense.  However, I also have a file called iPhoto library and it is listed as a library migrated under file type.

My question is, when I copy my pictures on the external hard drive also I copy the migrated thus iPhoto library?

My question is, when I copy my pictures on the external hard drive also I copy the migrated thus iPhoto library?

Yes, if you want to free up your internal disk storage moving two libraries of the iPhoto library you have migrated your external drive and the new library of Photos.

The two libraries share the storage for the original images and previews.  As long as one of the libraries is always on the internal disk and using storage, storage is not released: see: Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

Drag the two libraries to your external drive, then double click the pictures library to open it in photos and test it. Once you are convinced that the copied library works well, you can delete the original in the internal drive.  Do the same for the copied iPhoto Library if you have installed iPhoto.

  • Understand migrations from iPhoto to Photos

After you migrate an iPhoto for photo library, the file extension of the iPhoto Library is changed in .migratedphotolibrary, and my understanding is that the two libraries share the same files through the use of "hard links". I've also read that if one of the libraries is published subsequently, what causes the link between versions of break. Is this true?

    If so, my questions are:

    (1) If hard links break, this means that storage on hard drive required by the two libraries is increased by the size of one of the libraries? If so, who would not take a little time if the booksellers were important, for example 100 GB or more?

    (2) immediately after the migration, what happens if one of the libraries I move to a different folder? Again break hard links? If so, same question as above.

No - change or deletion of a form of photos a library does not break the hard link and has no effect on the other library - they are totally independent

    1 - Yes

    2. Yes, I believe that to break hard links - travel for sure as a library to another volume break

Why move a? Usually simply leave you it where it is for several months until you are sure that you need is no longer and then archive and delete

  • Migrating from iPhoto to Photos

I just upgraded to El Capitan and want to start using the Photos, I have followed the procedures to migrate my old iPhoto library Photos with my library of Photos appointed to reside on another internal hard drive.  I tried several times, but shortly after the migration has started I got the message that there insufficient space disc - 10 GIG necessary.  The drive I'm migration towards had 240 available concerts.  I tried to reformat the drive and emptied of all other files so that its complete 250 concerts are available, but the process still hangs on to 8% with the same message - not enough disk space.  Can someone give me an idea as to what is the problem?

What is the format of the second internal drive where the library s iPhoto stored? How many free space your main internal drive there? What is your iPhoto library

And since there is no single move procedure and what you are doing is not working, it would be useful for you to actually share the procedure that you use

  • Photos from iphoto imported disc ext new imac then lost new photos and photos app

Imported photos iphoto to ext drive to the new imac then lost new photos that were stored in the new «Photos for Mac»

All those Iphoto original is in my new mac now, but still using the format "iphoto". ...  Found the most recent that I had stored in the new format 'Photos for Mac' in icloud but can no longer run the new format or retrieve photos from icloud on the imac?  I'm confused... I obviously missed a few steps.  Be nice... I'm old!

iPhoto Photos are two different applications and they use different libraries.

So I understand you correctly: you have applications and different photos in two libraries?

  • How to transition from iphoto to the LR

Sad story: freaked out horrible photos iphoto, and thusly tired vs Apple customers, I used organizing elements to import over 100,000 images in Lightroom. I like what I see so far, but there is a learning curve. The metadata does not transfer but aussient were hoping that translates into a LOT of the reorganization of the time. Don't know where to keep them RAW / DNG vs their duplicates JPG files. All of the photos in iphoto are sitting in the Organizer on an external drive. I have still the masters than iphoto / photos use and continue to work because my wife likes it, but don't want to keep them both for always. What other people do to make this transition, not to lose hundreds of labels of the album (these are the equivalent of collections?) and to gain a sense of security that a all of their photos are safe and accessible?

And my apologies for the convoluted array of questions, but it reflects the State I am. Any help is appreciated.

  • photos from iPhoto import photos

Upgrade to El Capitan, all of my photos in iPhoto doesn't import it to Photos (only a 70 random 16 000 imported photos) and I can't seem to import manually as 'iPhoto Library' is grayed out when I try to import. All photos (16,000) are saved on an external drive. How can I get the Photo to read photos iPhoto from the external drive?

You can have more than one iPhoto library. Normally, when the photo is launched, it assumes that your main iPhoto library is on the boot volume, in your pictures folder.

Check the size of the PhotosLibrary file created in your users > your account > pictures folder. Move it out (you can remove it later). Pictures of launch with down option, select the main iPhoto library to migrate. Give it time, it is a slow process.

  • Migrating from iPhoto to Photos from another computer

    Hi guys

I have an old Mac with Snow Leopard and 2 libraries iPhotos on it (a HARD drive, an external hard drive).

I would like to transfer these libraries on the photo library to another Mac that sits on Yosemite and then upward

So basically A Mac has not installed pictures and Mac B is not installed iPhoto.

Is there a good way to do this?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Manu

Move the libraries for the new Mac (network, direct connection or DHM in Mac OS extended (journaled) format and drag them to the Photos icon in the dock to migrate each)
