Treo 680 headphones causes hotsync loop

I have a Palm Treo 680 unlocked working well until a few days ago. While listening to music with pctunes and attached headphones, pctunes locked up and hot sync began in a loop.

I searched the forum and tried the following to resolve the problem:

1 soft reset, too many times to count!

2 clean the contacts for the hotsync cable, with compressed air, then friction alcholol and q-tips.

3. hard reset a few times first sync after resetting and finally do not sync.

All to nothing does not. Then I discovered that if I replace the headset it starts randomly hotsync loop. This leads me to believe that the problem lies in the socket for headphones rather than contacts hotsync. I can't find anything on this in the forum. Here's what happens:

If I insert and remove the helmet a couple of times, start hotsync. Of course, it cannot synchronize because it is not connected to the computer. Sometimes, after that, it will allow normal operation of the buttons, but most of the time, it freezes the screen on the hotsync with no way to get to any other functions of the phone. Because of this problem with the headphone jack, I think I'm dealing with a hardware problem and not software, but I could be wrong.

With the current hard reset I didn't do a resync with my computer, it should be all the factory without software component programs snap-in settings. I currently don't have the AT & T sim card in because the phone is unusable in this condition. I am using an old Blackberry that I hate!

I will be grateful for any help or advice anyone can offer.

There may be a problem with the microphone in the earpiece. Click on the following link for article Palm on this issue.

http://www.Palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?id=40427

This usually causes the headset to fail, but it may help to solve your problem.

I would say to remove the battery and wait at least 1 minute to lower the power of the Treo. Take some alcohol to friction and cushion the plug on the headphones. Connect the headset and turn it several times and also delete and re - insert the plug several times.

If this does not resolve the problem, the Treo will need to be repaired.

  • Phone button does not return to the screen of the phone on the Treo 680

I had a Treo 680 for the past two years. Software is listed as Treo680 - 2.11 - ATT, which I think refers to the update that came out a year ago. But the other day, the phone button (left) brings me to the Favorites screen instead of the phone's screen. I can't understand what I did, assuming that I did anything to make that happen or how do go back. When I check the personal touches, preferences, it lists the phone to phone button, and you can not choose something different.

    Any ideas?

    OaklandRobb,

Are you sync'ing the new device the same username in Palm Desktop as an older device?
If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you synchronize the device, it records the device settings, applications, 3rd party, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the folder on the PC username. When you synchronize the new device it copies the content of the backup for the old device folder in the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings of the new device, which causes erratic behavior of the new device.

Here are the instructions for the hard reset and rename the backup file procedure. This procedure will not be re - install any 3rd party applications. You will need to re - install these applications. If you do not have the applications. on your PC for re-setup, you can take the apps. Copy the renamed backup folder, those in the newly named backup folder. When you synchronize applications will be installed. on the Treo.

Looks like you may need to reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Then before of you hotsync your data back you will need to rename your backup folder, to do than go here.

    XP
C:\Program files\palm or palm one\ [hotsync username]------and rename your backup
    file Backup.Old

    Vista
    Start--> documents\Palm OS Desktop\ [hotsync username]------and rename your backup
    file Backup.Old

Then hotsync from your current name of hotsync and all your contacts, calendar,
    tasks and memos coming back.

Show the file extensions for XP or Vista

If you cannot view the extensions of file on your PC I would you open a

    Vista

  • problems of resettlement of CD to transfer the info from the old treo 680 again one

After I accidentally broke my old treo 680, I got a new treo 680. I want to synchronize the info on my computer since my last synchronization successful the old Treo on the new treo. I read the instructions for the synchronization of a former palm OS device to another, say to install the software from the CD of the camera again on the CD of the previous device software. I tried to do, but when I insert CD of the new device in the drive of the computer of my Win XP Pro, nothing runs automatically. If I navigate on the CD and double-click autorun.exe, get the Palm resources on the screen (as if I had just finished the standard installation), rather than the installation wizard.

Does this mean that I can go ahead and sync the new device safely without having to reinstall the software?

If this is not the case, how can I get the next software installation wizard?

Not sure if this is relevant, but my old treo 680 has been obtained directly from Palm, unlocked. My other came from TigerDirect and is supposed to be unlocked, but there the AT & T logo and packaging. I put in the SIM and battery and managed to make a phone call to test with it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

If you replace one Palm OS device with another of the same model, there is no need to re - install any desktop software.  If the new device was previously owned, you would be Hard Reset to make sure that you start with a blank slate.  If it's really new (i.e. no previous owner), just connect your Hotsync cable.  It will ask you if you want to synchronize with an existing username or create a new.  Just select your current name.  All your applications and data should move to the new.

  • Cannot transfer photos from the Treo 680 for PC

First of all, I bought this phone and he didn't get any software CD provided whatsoever. I downloaded the software from Palm.Com HotSync and after reading all the horror stories that it does not include a way to transfer pictures or other objects generated from the smart phone without this software, I'm about to pull out my hair!

There must be another way that e-mail each photo of the photo to one email account to retrieve those pictures. I can't work when I try to attach a photo and send it to an email address is valid. I always get this error message:

VersaMail: "the connection has been made, but the SMTP server is not respoding." I have check the setting for the SMTP Protocol and they are valid and only happens when you attach a file to a message.

Is there any 3rd party software for the Palm Treo 680, that will allow me to transfer photos (jpg) from my phone on my computer?

Thanks for looking at my problem.

    Hello!

Palm Desktop Version 6 has the ability of multimedia synchronization.  As long as you are using Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista, you can use this version of Palm Desktop. Simply choose the Centro for your device to get this version.  The trade will be that colors in the calendar, the themes and Versamail sync encoding are not supported in this version.

At this point you may need to contact the manufacturer of your PC and see if your PC Bluetooth stack has the service available for file transfer. If you follow the instructions on the Web page I provided about sending files via Bluetooth, then the issue may be with your PC Bluetooth.

  • Problems with phone Palm Treo 680

    I have a Palm Treo 680.

I receive and make calls, it connects, but the audio does not work: I can't hear or speak.

When I plug in the headphones, I am able to hear, but not speak.

It seems that something related to Audio, since when I tried to play a piece with Pocket Tunes, I could listen for a minute, make a short call (and speak!) and then it worked again.

Tried everything up to the hard reset.

    Thanks for help.

  • Separate installs Palm desktop for Palm M505 and its applications, Palm Treo 680 and its applications on the same computer in Windows XP?

    Hello:

I'm doing a work around. I have a Palm M505 with a fantastic keyboard that connects to it. This allows me to write documents in a very portable way. The Treo 680 has never been the equivalent external keyboard, really full compatible with it rendering. So, I want to create documents on the M505 but otherwise use especially the Treo 680.

That's the problem. When I tried to synchronize two devices for my Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 for Windows XP, it did not work. HotSync to synchronize applications that do not work on the M505. In addition, versions of Documents to Go are very different (5.x versus 8.x).

I have a separate installation of Palm Desktop for each device, so I can have a nice desktop environment for each launching them separately. But the Palm Desktop installation "Wizard" stops and does not give me the opportunity to do a separate install of funds.

Any ideas other than the purchase of an ultra compact laptop and drop this scheme kludgy? For example, if I had to copy the installed files in files from one directory to another, this work or would would he not put in place in the registry?

    Thank you!

Very well. Stubbornness is paying off! I could beam documents between my Palm M505 and Treo 680, avoiding the need of complicated synchronization of the two Palms for my laptop. I was also able to transmit documents of both palms to my laptop Dell Inspiron M300, running Windows XP Pro.

When transferring between Palm devices, the results were better. In the M505, Documents to Go version 5,004 does not translate documents in Microsoft Word format, but in something he calls Word to Go. The Treo has DTG version 8.003, which is able to read files in Word format Go and save Microsoft Word for Windows format natively.

However, even when transferring a word in the document (old format) Go directly on my Windows XP computer desktop, he gave me a document that I could open, with the text that I would be entered following a bunch of Word characters obviously did not understand. If I add the file from my office to the most recent Documents to Go version on my laptop, I would expect that it it mean in a Word file when it sync for the Treo, but who were not on trial. In both cases, beaming between devices Palm is the simplest solution and has completely solved the problem.

For readers who are interested, that I so stubbornly tried to solve this problem because I am a typist quick touch. My old Palm M505 plugs directly into a Portable Palm both wonderful, old keyboard which is full size. Because it is a wired connection, I can type fast. This old keyboard compresses in the same footprint folded as some new keyboards external foldover. Even though much more bigger by folding it together in an accordion - like fashion, with record four flat surfaces. The design of this keyboard is now in some keyboards sold by the IGo Corporation (their former name for it was Sierra Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard). But they were unable to find a way to handshake their Bluetooth with the strange configuration Bluetooth in the Treo 680. Why from the library different Bluetooth in the Treo 680 Palm other Treo is a mystery to me, but enough of this tangent. Some interested by this workaround can be curious for the same reasons.

  • Sync Palm Treo 680 unlocked with Outlook 2003 on Windows 7

After that 2 full install and reinstall Palm 6.2 I can't synchronize my Outlook 2003 and the Palm Treo 680

HotSync log says it all correctly synchronized but new meetings and tasks turns into a single platform do not appear on the other platform.

  • Hard Reset damaged Treo 680?

Some time ago I've nailed my Treo 680 mounted belt on a sharp angle, causing the key 5-way such as the 'up' command is no longer available. I have now changed to a replacement of 680 and want to erase everything from the original before disposing of it, but of course, ordering "mounted", what confirms the deletion of all data during the procedure to hard reset!

Does anyone know of another way to do a hard reset which does not have this command? Any other suggestions to clean all personal data?

    Thank you, Chris.

Hello and welcome to the forums of Palm.

You can download the HARDRESET program from www.palmpowerups.com. This program will be hard reset of your device as soon as you click on it - it will give you 10 seconds to press a button to cancel the hard reset. After 10 seconds, you must perform a soft reset of your device (remove the battery and then put it again) to complete the hard reset.

I hope this has been helpful!

Hello BusterGonad and welcome to Palm forums.

Take a look at this Palm article for some good troubleshooting tips.  You can also download and install the free version of DBFixIt to check and see if there is no record of calendar damaged on your Treo.

If none of those who work, you can also try to create a new calendar in Outlook and the configuration of the conduct of Outlook calendar to sync with the new calendar to see if the problem is in the perspective. PST file.

I got the Treo 680 for almost 2 years, & it was great!  I'm a long Palm user goes way to the visors.  However, I was informed by ATT that the Treo is 'dead' because I have more sounds - start, stop, calendar, games, etc.  I fully charged I also changed the battery - put in another, also.  ATT did a hard game, but no response.  Any help!  I really don't want to leave the family immediately!

Sounds like it might be a common problem - do you use a headphone headphones or wired?  The tiny Microswitch inside the headphone barrel could be locked in the down position.

You hear the sound from the headphone jack?  If so, that's the problem!
