Trouble with BIOS and secure boot

Hello, I own a HP Pavilion 15-b040sl, born with Windows 8 Sleekbook and has been upgraded to 8.1. Now, I decided to downgrade to Windows 7 (I own a regular product key) and has done so successfully (I'm also using a Linux distribution in dual boot). The problem is since I've upgraded to 8.1 Windows, Secure Boot allows automatically when starting (it did not before upgrade, because I just Press esc - F9, then select "portable hard drive" boot selection, now I have to open the BIOS, enable Legacy Boot (and automatically disables the secure boot), then it boots correctly) , but I have to do this every time I turn on the computer. Is there a way to fix this? Simply, I need something to disable startup secure activation automatically at startup. Maybe an old BIOS update? I tried to take a look at downloading drivers, but I am unable to find the older versions.

I finally solved this when I noticed there was an option to disable startup change requests. This option is selectable when you disable booting safe (without activating the legacy support). Thanks for help.

  • Dell Precision M4700 (Windows 7 pro) starts not once configured with UEFI and Secure Boot

To all those who can help you:

I got a Dell Precision M4700 and I update bios A05. I was intending to move to Windows 8. Everything was fine and the bios update was successful. I started the new bios under Windows 7 Professional (base OS) factory-installed and was very good.

However, I can't get into the bios (not even see the POST from Dell or Logo) after I activate the UEFI and Secure Boot. This before I update to Windows 8 Pro. Now I'm stuck with a blank screen (same LCD not lit) and nothing to start. It's like a dead PC.

Help, please. Is that what I can do or should I contact Dell Support for repair?

    Thank you

I fixed it!  Just removed the CMOS battery, the BIOS got reset back to factory default.  So I did:

    (1) remove the battery

    (2) press the power button to the case of ground

    (3) remove the lower panel

    (4) disconnect the CMOS battery (it's tedious)

    (5) I hit the power button for some time (30 s) to clear the capacitors or something else, it was my theory, but I doubt it's necessary

    (6) use it to all back to the start

When I turned it on it turns on and turns off several times before finally stay standing and I was then able to enter the BIOS and all the settings have been restored to factory default.  I am new to Windows 7 on my machine so I'll repeat the process, this time without disabling the legacy option roms!

Here is the disassembly for precision M6700 and M4700 instruction manual if anyone needs:

  • no option in the bios to secure boot

Hi, I recently installed 8 64-bit windows and entrust the with my win 7 32 bit and my 14,04 64 bit ubuntu, but now I can not connect to win 7 or ubuntu. I looked online and it says disable secure boot, but my bios doesn't have this option (the motherboard is a ga-f2a85x-d3h, gigabyte), so I don't know how to turn it off so I can boot into those. is there a way to win 8 to turn it off, or do I just uninstall win 8? (need to access both win 7 and ubuntu, and was only to install win 8 because I couldn't upgrade win 7 32-bit to 64-bit with the same key (the installation disc wouldn't let me for some reason any).)

I tried now shift that I restart, and when he brings up a menu, it is not an option in there for the uefi framework parameters (as shown in the picture on this website: http://askubuntu.com/questions/221835/installing-ubuntu-on-a-pre-installed-windows-8-64-bit-system-uefi-supported).

    Hello

    Thanks for the reply.

I suggest contact you the Ubuntu support Forum as the partition where Ubuntu is installed are not recognized in the BIOS and that's why you get an error 'boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found.

  • VMware and Secure boot

    Good afternoon

We use VMware vCenter Server 5.5.  While I see that in our virtual machines, we have the possibility of using the UEFI boot, I see no support for secure boot.  According to some articles I've read, I don't think that it is supported.  Here's my question:

I have a virtual machine with installed Windows 8.1.  How can I start another device of this VM?  Windows 8.1 it locks.  I can access the BIOS or UEFI Manager, but I can't actually start to say an iso DVD.  It will not allow him.  But there is no option to turn it off.  How can we get around this if they need to start on another device?  Thank you.

VMware virtual machines do not support Secure Boot at the moment.  It should not be possible for an operating system that is installed to "lock" the ability to boot from any other medium.  If our EFI implementation refuses to boot from a disk or an image, it probably means that the image/disk is not well-formed to start EFI support.

What image/disc you're trying to start?  The same disc/image starts successfully in a VM EFI without an operating system installed?

  • Winows 8 and Secure Boot

I have the following machine: model m9600t, KX745AV-ABA product number. I am running Windows 7 without problem. I want to update now for Windows 8, but through a compatibility check, he said that the system will not support Secure Boot. As I understand it, it's because the hardware do not support UEFI. Is this correct and if so are there plans to release of updates for the necessary system components for machines like mine? Thank you.

I am trying to explain that to the best of my knowledge. The SIZE of the BIOS must be more in support of UEFI. The system BIOS your motherboard is not able to support UEFI and HP will not / can not get out an update of the BIOS for your system BIOS support UEFI.

  • IE is slow, hangs in Google, will run Firefox under Windows 7 with speed and security?

I'm not very tech savy English so good please. I have a desktop Dell Studio with Intel 2 Quad Processer. I have used IE for 15 years and more. Started using Google Chrome for speed and better security about 6 months without any problem. Shortly after the beginning of the year Chrome started crashing every day and from 1/14 he broke the 10-12 times a day. I don't like losing stuff and having to stop, re - load, raise or re-store that Chrome was more than that was working properly.

Will Firefox work in my system operating system. I loan on your security, password protection and other things that are touted on your website on Firefox, but I'm mostly concerned about accidents and what are the causes. Is the problem in my own system and not questions of brower?

I just want to surf, read, watch you tube, facebook with friends and family. I am 65 years old and retired, and I'm really disguested with all the problems I encounter.

I think Firefox is a good product, but I need answers to the questions I asked.

We hope to hear from someone very soon on the issues that I raised. If I download Firefox, should I uninstall IE. I already have an installed Chrome =.

  • Battery problem (CPU a bottleneck) with BIOS and Intel SpeedStep technology.

    The question is this:

    1. If the AC adapter and the battery are both connected on the X201T, the speed of the CPU (base clock) is capable of running at the maximum speed of 2.13 GHz as indicated by the specifications of the system.
    2. If only the battery is connected, the speed of the CPU is still able to run at maximum speed of 2.13 GHz as indicated by the specifications of the system.
    3. If only the AC adapter is plugged in, the speed of the CPU is now 'limited' and can run only at 1.2 GHz.
4 in addition, I also ran Windows Experience Index assessment (built-in to Windows 7) and received a score of 6.3 with the battery or the AC adapter is plugged in, but only a score of 4.2 with only the AC adapter.
    5. the system is significantly slower and cursor shifts are more noticeable when the battery is disconnected.

    Control Panel:
A.the system has been set at maximum Performance with all the power saving settings turned off. The system has been fully updated for the latest updates and possible drivers from 12/03/10 at the time of the breathalyzer test.  No other software is installed that came with the ThinkPad when I received it.
    B. with the connection and disconnection of the battery, the system has been individually disabled every time and restarted.
    C. I ran full system Test and system through Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox stress Test and received no errors to ensure that the question was not due to system errors.
    D. I used CPU - Z 1.56 v to monitor the speed of the CPU, all running Intel BurnTest v2.50 to insist on the system.
    E. the problem is reproducible and probably a system wide problem/bug, because I tested it on two my X201T (I know it's weird, but I have two of these amazing machines).

    Update:

After further testing, I've isolated the problem of "Bottleneck the CPU processor without battery" occurs only when the technology Intel SpeedStep in BIOS is enabled. Only when the SpeedStep technology option is cleared "completely", this problem will not occur. However, if the SpeedStep technology is enabled, even when the AC is set on maximum Performance, the CPU processor speed is limited when the battery is disconnected with the tablet running only on the AC adapter. This seems to be a bug in the BIOS.

If someone can communicate this problem Lenovo Engineering Department so that they can arrive at a solution, that would be great and very helpful. So I can work on my system without always having the battery plugged.

There are 2 solutions for that.

You spend more money for a 90W power adapter (which I did), then you can disconnect the battery and it will run at full speed.

Or, you go into the BIOS and turn off IntelSpeedStep.

Unfortunately, without the battery, when only using the 65W adapter, your speed will be throttled (I think it's a mistake on the end of Lenovo, but they claim it's normal).

  • Problems with youtube and security always on filter

    Hello

I use a s100v virtual wsa. I'm giving you access to YouTube in the strategy of access and politics of decryption via a customized url.

The site loads, and all right, except the videos require the security to be disable filter do not work.

No matter how many times I click on and then save the filter always stay on.

If I disabled the proxy, everything works fine. I use the proxy transparent with port 80 and 443.

    Thank you

Security in Youtube filter uses Google Safe Search, and in access to the WSA political also has this option.

If this option is enabled in the WSA under 'Content Filtering' access policy so there will be applied the Safe Search option and keep enable.

You can check this option under (WSA GUI-> Web Security Manager-access policies >-> Url filtering-> content filtering) and see if you have this turn on or turn off.

Just click in this thread on your account name and you will see the list of all threads that are created.

I saw your ad on the other and you're pretty confused with this. On laptops Toshiba, there is no recovery partition and recovery image is recorded on the second partition in the file called HDDRecovery. Do not change anything here and you will be able to use the HARD drive recovery facility when you want using F8 and repair my computer option.

iTunes and QuickTime are not Toshiba applications and if you have problems with it you should contact Apple and their support. They have designed and tested clean products and they should be able to help.

I just got an Apple iPhone and is trying to get the thing to work. In accordance with the instructions of Telfort, I need to download the manual. When I try to download the manual, I get a message that Adobe 'need my permission' to run. OK, so I tried to join Adobe and got myself a password. Now I get ads for other Adobe products, and I have no idea (or interest) in what they do. I want to only download the instructions for the iPhone by lightning to work.

Jeff, thank you very much for answering. I'm no good in things technical and is seriously frustrated with this thing struck dead. I managed to get a really nice guy on the line of Telfort and he sends me a new SIM card. Looks like the one I received was not working right. I have to deal with Adobe Reader anymore because I just got the manual on my Nook (eReader from Barnes & Noble) for only $2.99. I'll be able to see when the new SIM card is delivered and should be able to figure it out from there. Once again, thank you for your response.

  • Satellite P840: How to create the secure boot with UEFI Bios recovery disk

    Hello

I have laptop P840 that came pre-installed with Windows 8, which I've upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.
I then updated to Windows Pro 8.1 by Windows store. Please notify:

    1. how to create a DVD repair or start for windows 8.1 pro with UEFI Bios and boot secured.

    2. I created a USB recovery using the control panel in Windows Pro 8.1. It starts OK. It will be the same as that I've created using the Toshiba Media recovery creator or will it drivers Windows Pro 8.1?

    3. check partitions with disk management, then 3 (450MO, 350 MB and GB 10.90) recovery partitions, 1 EFI system partition and 2 primary (C: programs) and D: for data. I created the recovery DVD and USB 2 disks. Can I remove the 3 recovery partitions?

Your help will be very appreciated.

I found your previous thread on this topic:

    > 1. How to create a DVD repair or start for windows 8.1 pro with UEFI Bios and boot secured.
To be able to boot from sources other than the drive HARD internal, the boot mode must be set to the CSM and secure boot must be disabled!

    > 2. I created a USB recovery using the control panel in Windows Pro 8.1. It starts OK. It will be the same as that I've created using the Toshiba Media recovery creator or will it drivers Windows Pro 8.1?

Your laptop has been preloaded with Win 8. Right? For example, the USB flash stick memory you just use the Toshiba Recovery media creator contains the Image of Toshiba with Windows 8. Don t mix this Toshiba image with the image that can be created using Microsoft's own backup and restore function. Both are different pictures!

    > 3. Check it with disk management, then 3 (450MO, 350 MB and GB 10.90) recovery partitions, 1 EFI system partition and 2 partitions primary (C: programs) and D: for data. I created the recovery DVD and USB 2 disks. Can I remove the 3 recovery partitions?

The last partition contains the files on HARD drive recovery. Usually this partition will be created again when you use the Toshiba Recovery disk to put the laptop back to factory settings. So in the case where you n t need this files or the partition, you can delete

  • Satellite C850 - 19(d) - I want to do a dual boot with Linux and Win 8

    Last week I had a Satellite C85O - PSCBWE-03200WGR 19(d)

Yesterday, I try to make a dual boot with Ubuntu.

I do not have a start to boot from USB, or iso CD (same choices as for the Toshiba application), and I did one on the bios:
    -Disable secure boot
    -Change UEFI CSM support
    -Save

On reboot, I get not Toshiba logo, but a black screen with:

«This product is covered by one or more of the following patents:...» (list of patents...)

    Realtek...

PXE - E61: Media test faliure check cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE ROM
"No boot device - insert boot and press a key.

I can't open the Bios again at F2.

    Which I recover the system?

    Hello

The unit has been pre-installed with Win 8 64 bit right?

Change BIOS setting of UEFI to CSM and disabling secure boot prevent Notepad to start 8 to win!

That's why the device cannot find the boot device and passes to the last option: LAN.
But given that the laptop can not find bootable system via LAN, the error PXE - E61: Media test faliure check cable appears.

If you want to use a dual boot, you will need to boot into Win 8
Win 8 you must create a partition for installing Linux. This can be down in Win 8 disk management. It must reduce a last partition and have to create new free space available.

Now to start installing Linux you need support... you can burn the iso on DVD or a USB bootable Linux. There are a lot of details on the internet how to create these media.
Once you have created the bootable USB key, restart your PC with USB connected.
Press F12 for the boot menu. Now you should see the key USB (if it is bootable!) choose USB and you should be able to install Linux (Ubuntu is great!)

Here's a nice page that would provide the statement all step by step!

    Hello world

I was wondering if it was possible above? I have not yet put a lot of energy this uefi and secure boot thingy - said if just our supporters to change the bios settings to the legacy with secure boot disabled on the pre Windows 8 delivered Lenovo systems.

    Win7 can't Secure Boot.

  • Cannot boot from CD - DVD in LEGACY mode - NO Secure Boot UEFI NOT

You just bought an Optiplex 7010 minitower with Win 8 Pro 64 - bit, 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB HDD and an Intel i5 processor 3470.  Now he has BIOS version A16.

It is normally ON UEFI and Secure Boot on IT and F12 at startup does NOT normally display the CD-DVD as a boot option.  OK - no problem.

However, if I reboot with F12 and select UEFI OFF (meaning WE legacy) and Secure Boot SHUTDOWN and reboot, then F12 DON'T show me the CD - DVD as a startup option, but if I actually try to boot from a bootable CD, I get an error message.

I practiced with two CD bootable - a Knoppix I did on a XP machine an Aomei Backupper I did on a Win 7 machine.  These CD working as in my old XP machine boot CD, and the CD of Backupper of Aomei worked someone else machine Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

    What's wrong?

Again, please let me repeat that I am trying to boot from the CD-DVD AFTER I have turned OFF UEFI, turned on the legacy and off Secure Boot.

    Thank you.

Speed - although you predicted, I am amazed at what I did today.

I bought a second hard drive (in white) and installed Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 on it.  (I unplugged the first hard drive which has my Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  (Later to figure out how to dual-boot - no not yet for that.)

What struck me is that I have installed SP1 for Win 7 Pro 64-bit while my BIOS is UEFI - it's ON UEFI and Secure Boot off.  (Enable Legacy ROM is enabled.)  BIOS is the Windows Boot Manager.  The Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 DVD ran perfectly on my CD - DVD unit - no problems of any kind.  The machine has restarted several times, as I adjusted it settings and added the resource of Dell Media CD drivers.

Disk Management displays only two partitions - a little with the legend "Healthy (EFI System Partition)" and then my C:\ drive, which is indicated be NTFS and 'in good condition (boot, Page File, crash dump, primary Partition).  The properties for the entire drive 0 said "Partition Style: GUID Partition Table (GPT).

Now - is it good or bad?  If one day I try to dual-boot, what is incompatible with the four partitions on my hard drive to win 8 (now offline)?  Install this fake Win 7?

I'm even more amazed than the Win 7 Pro 64 - bit auto installed SP1 with a product key that is different from the product key for my Win 8 Pro 64-bit.  The Dell OEM Windows 7 installation disc done by himself - I don't have to enter anything.  Which is good news for a future dual-boot, Yes?

I have NOT yet connected to the internet.

Now, when I unplugged my hard drive of origin WIn 8, I disconnected the Sata data cable and used for the new hard drive Win 7 added.  If the new hard drive is connected to data SATA motherboard even as the drive of origin 8 Win.  Well, at some point when I use two hard drives, one of them should be connected to another plug SATA on the MB - but not yet.

Well... How do I fortunately to this stage so far?

That's right, that a secure boot does not load the usb drivers, then connect a usb keyboard, when using secure boot will not work.   I don't know if you can activate the loading of traditional USB drivers and still have secure startup, you should test.

If you can enable loading the usb and secure boot drivers would let me know for future reference.
