Ubuntu, grub and Tecra M7 BIOS ver 3.50 Vista compatible

I have problems with grub not showing do not cold start. I think it is a problem with both monitors enabled at startup, although I have the ability to monitor the internal value only at startup. This option does nothing in my experience. Grub displays fine but after reboot.

The only way I can get GRUB to display all the time is to assign the internal display with screen Toshiba utility in windows xp and then without touching.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

I think you understand that Toshiba doesn't support Linux at the moment and all laptops with BIOS are designed and adapted for Windows XP Home/Vista edition so I can't provide the answer to your question.

If you want to discuss Linux perhaps you should visit the Linux forums. There you can chat with people who have experience over Linux. The fact is that on this forum there is not so many fans of Linux.

    When I start the pc, F2, press c to boot from the CD-ROM, I get in a dos environment. I went to the drive Z, "dir" and see the bios.exe that I've burned to cd. To run it I type bios.exe and continue to be 'command unrecognized file name' when I type dir *.exe, he does not see the file either.

    Hello

    Your described method does not apply to Toshiba laptops.
    Each computer laptop manufacturers supports various BIOS update procedures

    Toshiba on this page we:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/support/JSP/downloadDetail.jsp?soID=356848&PF=true
    Here you can download the latest version of the BIOS for Tecra 8100

    The 4810.25 package must be unpacked everything first.
    Then you should check the files available.
    There is a readme.txt file that describes how to update BIOS using the ISO to CD.

    I hope I could help

  • Re: Remove the Tecra A8 BIOS password

    Greetings,

    It was purchased recently two used computers laptop Toshiba Tecra A8 with serial numbers Y6091612H and Y6091296H. Both were protected by (there not the possibility to go in the BIOS). On the Internet, I found the information he can reset the password by using the response code.

    This code can obtain only authorized service provider. You as a person private will not be able to do it somehow.
    Contact the nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and explain the situation. They can help you and remove the BIOS password.

    Hello, I ran the Vista Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft, and he pointed out that the BIOS on my Tecra M5 was not compatible with Vista and to contact Toshiba. I am running version 1.7 - the most recent available I think. Toshiba will release a version that will be compatible with Vista, or a fix so that I can run Vista on my M5?

    Hello

    I guess Tecra M5 Vista capable label. Am I wrong?

    I know for each unit of Vista, laptop manufacturer will offer the proper BIOS version, as well as drivers, tools and utilities.

    In short time Vista will be placed on the market and after the official launch, all this kind of stuff should be available on download page.

  • Ubuntu Grub does not detect not Windows partition

    Hello
    I am currently using a laptop ACER provided with pre-installed Windows Vista. About 6 months ago I had my boot dual PC by Ubuntu editing I. Everything worked fine for a few months, I used to get an option to boot into Vista at startup. But suddenly, this option disappeared. I am not able to understand why this happened. Now ACER not provided me with any disk recovery. Please suggest what to do.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.
    There is no Vista free download legal available.
    https://secure.TX.Acer.com/rcdb/main.aspx?brand=Acer
    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also, ask them if you still have on your computer/laptop recovery Partition to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you press F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    Hello David

    Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you and say that you will not be able to find this document. But it is possible that this problem is solved with the new BIOS update. Be careful with BIOS updates and read the BIOS update description prior to treatment.
