UEFI SecureBoot with ESX 5 virtual machines?

Hello

Any help is appreciated on this point - nobody knows if it is possible to start virtual Windows 8 ESXi with Secure Boot with Machines?

There seems to be no Secure Boot option in the VMware of EFI implementation.

Thank you

J

JonnerHello and welcome on the VMware communities!

Your conclusions are correct: Secure Boot UEFI is not currently available in all VMware virtual machines.

See you soon,.

  • Cannot import Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4.

    Hi team,

    I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

    Following is the error message:

    "Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

    So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

    Thanks in advance,

    It's even easier than that

    Use this: http://www.winimage.com/

    Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...

  • store with grayed out virtual machine

    Hi all

    I want to configure RDM for a virtual machine that has been powered down. When I chose one to add a ROW to a READ, the "Store with virtual machine" option is grayed out, only 'Specifies the data store' is available. Of what I had experienced, by specifying a data store (only the local data store unavailable to its host), if the store RDM configration in Local Storage what is happn to MY HA.

    Thank you

    Scheller.

    Hi Scheller,

    Its seems you have configured your VMS with NFS data warehouses, as the RDM are only available for VMFS volumes, if you use the local then HA data store will not work, you must present one of the volumes in all the host ESX VMFS and specify a data at the RDM LUN configuration store.

    Thank you

    A Virtual Machine created the Volume share of Cluster (c:\Cluster storage\...)

    A network adapter dedicated to the management of server-> 10.0.1.11 (HV01) and 10.0.1.13 (HV02)

    A network card dedicated to Hyper v Virtual Machines-> 10.0.1.12 (HV01) and 10.0.1.14 (HV02) and allow networking option is disabled.

  • Data store growing VMFS with the running virtual machine

    Hey, gentlemen.

    Have a quick question. We have configured incorrectly datastore VMFS on VM production, basically, is size of the SAN LUNS to 1.99 and virtual disk was created as thin provisioned and 2 TB.

    vSphere shows no free space. I intend to grow data store, we found 100 GB also on SAN and I have an add on vsphere.

    I'm not sure we need to stop the VM to make this change?

    I guess not, because Guest OS should see no change - drive keep 2 TB, changes will happen only at the level of vSphere.

    If I have good documentation of VMware on VMFS, one of the main benefits of VMFS is:

    http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/VMFS-best-practices-WP.PDF

    Facilitates the dynamic growth

    Through the use of a volume management layer VMFS allows an interface to storage resources so that several

    types of storage (Fibre Channel, iSCSI and FCoE) can be presented as warehouses of data on which virtual machines can

    resident. What allows a dynamic growth of these storages of data through the aggregation of storage resources provides the

    ability to increase a shared without incurring downtime storage resource pool.

    This means that I didn't stop Guest OS to make such changes?

    Thank you in advance!

    This means that I didn't stop Guest OS to make such changes?

    Yes, you need not shutodown comments and/or host.

    Just check out this recommendation from VMware:

    Note: If the LUN knows a high i/o rate by cultivating the VMFS, the ESX host isn't able to complete the operation. In this case, repeat the operation after hours and when backup operations are not executed. If the problem persists, turn off some of the virtual machines that reside on the LUN, and then try again.

  • The value of MAC address on deployment with the new virtual machine vm

    I am looking for a way to statically define the NIC MAC address on the deployment. I use a loop to create 24 copies of a model on several virtual machines and the need to put the MAC for DHCP addresses. I could make this work with esxi 3.5, but after the upgrade to vsphere, I have questions.

    Is - it possible or do I have after reloop with set-networkadapter? I try to avoid this if possible.

    So the next step to get just the device object

    . config.hardware.device (notice-EEG - VIObject "Template Name"). Where-Object {$_.deviceinfo.label - like "Network adapter 1"}

    That's what you're going to correct?

  • Upgrading Linux with Update Manager virtual machines

    We have just started testing vSphere and upgrade equipment and the VMtools to version 7. He managed servers on Windows, but it does not immediately work on Linux servers with the following error "remediation of linux vms only is not supported". Is it possible to do this without Update Manager or is there a workaround? We have a mixture of Red Hat 5 and Fedora servers.

    Thank you

    Scott

    I subscribe to a service of Red Hat to upgrade VMware Tools and hardware version 7? This does not appear to make sense.

    You said "clean up" which implies you want to PATCH Linux VM, not simply upgrade the hardware.

    This part is easy.  Power off the virtual computer, right-click, VM version upgrade.  VM boot. Click on VM-> comments-> install / upgrade VM tools, this will mount the CD.

    Use the console to double-click on the CD, run the RPM vmtools.  It SHOULD encourage with upgrade or install as new.  Once installed, launch the Terminal Services session to the redhat.

    type:

    vmtools (tab hit), it should autocomplete, vmtools-implementation to date... something like that.  Run this command.  A bunch of stuff happening on the screen, just hit enter (to accept all of THE defaults) (or reply y/n as the case).  The option highlighted, pre-selected will be correct.

    restart the virtual machine.

    Voila, done.

    I use the .net SDK, but an example of use of the API would also help.

    I have a VAPP model that contains a unique virtual machine, and information networking are contained in the model of vapp.

    can I get a simple example of creating a new TIME containing a simple vm using the VAPP model described above?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hope this helps, by using the .NET SDK:

    Load the VCC you want to put TIME in

    VCC Vcc = Vdc.GetVdcByReference (customer, vdcReferenceUrl);

    Load the model you want to use

    Model VappTemplate = VappTemplate.GetVappTemplateByReference (customer, templateReferenceUrl);

    InstantiationParamsType instantiationParamsType = new InstantiationParamsType();

    InstantiateVAppTemplateParamsType = new InstantiateVAppTemplateParamsType stuff

    {
    AllEULAsAccepted = true,
    name = "the name of vapp",
    Source = model. Reference,
    deploy = true,
    Description = "description"
    InstantiationParams = instantiationParamsType,
    };
    Method to create he created... the app returned will not be usable for a while, but you can get the jobs for her and for the status of charging

    VAPP app = Vcc. InstantiateVappTemplate (stuff);

    Hope it gets you going.

    Hi all.

    I have vmware server 2.0 installed on ubuntu 10.04.

    I am trying:

    -apt - get autoclean, clean apt - get, apt - get - purge autoremove

    But the size is not increasing. I think this is the vmware server.

    I have three VM on vmware server, and one of them got three vmdk (*.vmdk *-000001.vmdk *-000002.vmdk), but the second (*-000001.vmdk) of them is not modifed the 26.03.2011. How can I remove them? Is this possible?

    Thank you.

    Nothing to be puzzled. This vmx looks as expected. It's always the last snapshot of the string pointed to by the vmx file. The chain is then made based on the information (for example, parentFileNameHint, CID, parentCID) in the vmdk files.

  • Monitor only 3 groups in VMWare and include the ESX and virtual machines that are running in this cluster

    Hi all

    I have two business units who want to have a view of their grouping. Create a dashboard for each cluster, or is there another way to approach this problem.

    See you soon

    Hi, I noticed that this thread has not been answered.

    I then there is, we copied the main dashboard VMware and selected a default service for her (Cluster/Datacenter).

    I hope this helps. Please try it first on a system of staging (lab).

  • With the help of modern.ie of Virtual Machines to test the App

    I'm developing a freeware desktop application and test on older versions of Windows. Terms of the license modern.ie declare the following

    1. You can use the software for testing only. You can use the software for commercial purposes. You can use the software in an operational environment.

    Although the site is intended for testing of web sites on Internet Explorer, allows to test the desktop apps as well? The app does not interact with IE in some way, if that makes a difference.

    Well, I am not a lawyer, but looks like you can use it for any test you want.  You could do this with your own virtual machine running an evaluation version of Windows also.  All these expire so you can't use them constantly, but you can always go back or download a new when it expires.

  • Protect both virtual machines with features of ESXI fault tolerant clustered disk

    Hello world

    I read the following:

    VMware vSphere with operations management: fault tolerance | United States

    The line that interests me is:

    "VMware vSphere® fault tolerance (FT) ensures the continued availability of the applications in the event of server failure by creating an instance of live snapshots of a virtual machine that is always up to date with the first virtual machine. In the event of hardware failure, vSphere FT triggers automatically failover - ensure no interruption of service and prevent data loss. »

    Question:

    FT can protect both virtual machines that share disks in a cluster configuration? (A cluster SQL instance for example)

    FT can protect both virtual machines that share disks in a cluster configuration? (A cluster SQL instance for example)

    No, you can't, because there is an incompatibility with FT.

    Refer to the documentation for all requirements and interoperability: interoperability of fault tolerance

  • a few virtual machines with memory of 97% comments

    I have a few virtual machines that seem to be connecting their memory @ 4 GB. One is a web server, and the other is just your standard Windows2k8 server.

    Yes, that is how it is designed.  The memory that you assigned will be used.  What happens is when you start to add ESX several virtual machines will start to share this memory and memory for each use of the VM on the host will be less over time.

    This is because at the moment, your host probably has a lot of memory is free, so no need to 'share' there is enough for all the VMS.

  • ESXi 4.0 really slows with only 4 minimum of running virtual machines

    My ESXi server is a processor Quad Core (2.4 GHz) server with 8 GB or RAM

    It works very well with the three virtual machines it seems, but when adding the fourth they all slow to a crawl.

    There are several tabs that don't make sense, for example:

    I watch tab resource allocation, it shows capacity 8149 MHz CPU - so I guess he uses 1.5 GHz which is a lot, but I can live with that, but says memory total RAM capacity is 1572 MB - if the system uses more than 6 GB of RAM? What is the problem?

    I look at the physical memory - Configuration tab and it says memory: Total 8114 MB, MB system 5288, physical Machines virtual 2826 MB

    Currently, there are three machine running - an I limited to 512 MB (currently using 52MO and the host uses 127 MB), another is limited to 1.5 GB, but it uses only 600 MB (host uses 1014 MB) and has no limit, but has only 1 GB allocated (it is currently using 80 MB and the host uses 913 MB)

    BTW Machines 1 and 2 above are limited to 500 MHz and 3 Machine is limited to 1200 MHz.

    Until the devil is the problem? Where are all my resources going? My VM are not using almost nothing. If I try to start a virtual machine, which is limited to 512 MB and 500 MHz of 4th, all useless machines. Connections network starts to fall sharply, RDP cannot connect, the console window is only good for trying to stop him. As soon as one of them is off, it works well again.

    I tried tons of parameters of affecting all unlimited and obliging all for unreasonably low speed and memory and nothing works.

    Where should I start to understand this?  I have dealt with this for over 6 months and I am very frustrated.

    You can put the latest bios on this system as well as check that the default bios are defined (with the exception of things vt
