UFS to ZFS migration / conversion recommendations

We have hundreds of different systems of UFS filesystem in our production environment and little to no window of opportunity to bring them to a static state to copy the data. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could address the issue? Or has experienced this themselves?

Thanks in advance for any help, advice, or by pointing and laughing at my doooooom!

Hello

Well what I did at a customer who had about 1 t data and also because downtime stritly minimum.

I used rsync.

If you create a zpool and riding in a different directory.

then, who, with rsync, let synchronize you synchronization for x hours.

And you this several times at the end of the ERP synchronization and less time.

Then stop you your application, and then syncing with rsync.

then remove the old mount point and set the mount with the zfs at the old point

And start the application.

In this way you carried out will know you can do a restore if it doesn't

Hope this helps

First I'll start with the overview information.

I started using VMware Server v1 several years ago, running on Windows and Linux Hosts. Some systems started at this level and have climbed into the new versions that have come out over the years. Now, I use VMware ESXi 4, ESXi v3.5 and VM Server 2. I'm moving all VMware Server 2 systems to the ESXi software lineup.

I recently bought a Dell 2850 Server I thought able to accommodate 64-bit systems in a hosted environment. The model number of the processor is a SL8MA. It does not have a 64-bit virtualization hosting. From what I've read the Dell 2950 is quite capable of accommodating a virtualized 64 bit VM. VMware ESXi v4 fits perfectly in the 2850.

When I spoke with a representative of the company, I bought the server from there said the main chip used in the Dell Server 2850 was a SL8MA.

Here is some information from Intel on the details of the cpu.

    http://processorfinder.Intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=sl8ma

Notice the EM64T highlighted? Here is some additional information on the EM64T.

There are a few issues I have with the help of VMware Converter v4. When you try to move a 64-bit VM guest (s) of an existing VMware Server 2 running on Fedora Core 6 (noted but doesn't really count) I get a message indicating that the HOST server does not support the 64-bit virtualization. Why can't I not move the system runs a similar system using a processor that only supports EM64T?

Can I just move the files created using VMware Server 2 hard?

What VM version is VMware Server 2 on?

Can I convert files for a Version of VMware ESXi 6 or 7 format hard?

    http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/6257/ddv2vx3n_108d3vmntdz_b.png

What I don't understand is how the server of VMware hosting a 64-bit operating system is running on a 64-bit EM64T processor but I can't transfer the virtual machine on a similar box using a compatible with VMware Server that works with VMware converter. IE: transfer of VMware Server 2 to VMware ESXi 3.5 or ESXi 4.

The details of the system are listed below for the system already running a 64-bit host.

    http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/6256/ddv2vx3n_1123nfd6cgh_b.png

Can I install an operating system 64-bit on a VMware ESX v4?

Can I install an operating system 64-bit on a VMware Server 2? Yes, it seems so since I have one running, I can just move it to another server EM64T.

To transfer 64-bit HOST system must run 64-bit Support of VT.

Why should I use a 64-bit system on another processor EM64T?...

You must both VT and EM64T in order to run the 64-bit clients. See article 1901.

  • Migration

Over the years, I have used assistant Migration to move things from one computer to the other. But moves to all sorts of unnecessary things, such as the old system 7 preference files software and other. So I'm not sure I want to "migrate" again. Is there a great way to migrate partially stuff (photos, music, settings, and other library) other than manually move things? It would be great to use the Migration Wizard to move all users and documents and settings from one to another computer, but I'm not all the garbage that goes with it! Throw a few ideas here for me to think.

The Setup/Migration assistant program is quick and easy.

Move the files manually is tedious and time consuming.

Installation/Migration Assistant may move on obsolete files like the old preferences files and others. But all these old files don't do anything wrong. They do not slow down your computer and they do not use disk space.

I've always used Assistant settings. So I still have the files of my eMac I've owned from 2002 to 2005 on my iMac running 10.11 here in 2016. These files have never bothered me. Take the time to manually move files to avoid copying these file types was not worth the time or effort for me.

But I can understand the appeal of a pristine, clean system uncluttered with prefs old and other unnecessary files. Only you can decide if take the time and energy for it is worth for you.

If you decide to migrate, a recommendation I have is to use the installation wizard and not of Migration Wizard. Installation Wizard is what you get when you turn on your Mac for the first time and answer you Yes when it asks you if you want to transfer files from another Mac. Migration wizard, it's what you do when you answer no in the installation wizard, try to migrate to another Mac later once you've already spent time to set up your new Mac. From my experience, answered no to the configuration wizard only do Migration Assistant later is almost always a mistake.

  • Operating system not meeting requirement

In the Download Manager for InDesign, I get an error message saying "not respected - Mac server recommended OS requirement. I don't know what that means. My current operating system is the following:

    Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8.

2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 processor

    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory

I still have more than 300 GB of storage remaining.

If I understand it, my laptop specs should be enough to run this program, so I don't know what the problem is. I tried to go ahead with the installation anyway a few times, but were unable to open the program, when I installed it. Screen attached. Can anyone help? Thank you!

    Hello

It took me almost a week, but the problem is finally solved!

In the meantime, I did several tests which I want to mention in order to help others.

I used a nice backup/cloning tool, called EaseUS ToDo Backup. Who created images of two readers, I have so been able to get back them in the VM to boot with the rescue disk (the CD iso file) EaseUS. Unfortunatelly even that did not help, because I was getting the message "BOOTMGR is missing" at the start of the system.

So I tried to restore these images to the bare metal on a HP DL380 server. It took several hours to complete that, comparing with the previous trial on the virtual environment, but when it finished I got the same problems. BOOTMGR missing.

On these two options, I tried to start with support for Windows Server 2008, but I couldn't "see" the disc. Also, it not there no other options repair that might help. I've tried everything. No luck with the Windows Server CD.

Then I tried to see if I can fix it from the command prompt using the DISKPART command. Unfortunately I could not fix again.

I was thinking about giving up, but I remembered my motto, that said 'Everything is possible', so I started to think about another way. I thought it might be a good idea to try to search for the problem that I see and not what I believe. I mean the problem started because the conversion went well, but the virtual machine was there. It was migrated into the virtual environment at the end, and finally he just was not able to start. Also, I restored "images" of the physical machine, created with another way, but I always got the same message. So it should not be the conversion itself, but something else that was causing the problem with the trunk.

After spending some time searching the web for a solution I found here: BOOTMGR is missing in Windows Server 2008 R2

Start with an image of the DVD Windows 7 x 64 Pro and try to automatically fix problems twice, gave me a c. bootable disk and an operating system of Windows 2008...

I hope that helps someone else who will be the face of similar problems with a migration/conversion which will give after an error "BOOTMGR is missing".

I would also like to thank you all who spent time with my problem and posted about it. I really appreciate it a lot.

    Kind regards

  • limitation of transport_set_check

    Hi all

I am trying to migrate from HP - UX cross-platform (10 g) to Linux(11g) using Transportable Tablespace and RMAN 'convert '. I have ~ 200 tablespaces that I need to move together because they are all interdependent. As the first step, I'm under the control of free containment for these spaces of 200 storage but dbms_tts.transport_set_check - error "SP2-0027: entry is too long (> 2499 characters) - ignored line" as it is unable to handle this a long list of storage... Anyone of you experience this problem. Is there a work around?

I am aware that datapump has a workaound (below) to handle long strings but y at - it such a work around for transport_set_check?

    DIRECTORY = DP_DATA
    DUMPFILE = trnS.dmp
    logfile = trnS.log
include = SCHEMA: "in (select sname of scott.schema_tab).
    Full = y
    Content = metadata_only

    Thank you for the yout...

We recenly updated day/migration 6 TB data warehouse for Sun Solaris/Oracle 10 g to 11 g/RH Linux via tablespaces transportable. Unfortunately, we have not found a way to remedy a limitation of DBMS_TTS string length. TRANSPORT_SET_CHECK. With the help of this control is helpful, but not absolutely necessary. If you have a test environment, you can simply run the migration/conversion and see how it goes.

Don't forget that you can also use TRANSPORT_FULL_CHECK to expdp which is used for similar purposes and does not have installed such limitations with all the patches on the right.

    It will be useful.

  • 11.1.2.3.00 recommended to automate the Migration of production to Test

    Hi all.

I would like to migrate the following items of Prod to Test and want to automate completely.

    Shared services

    Manager of Calc

    Planning

    Essbase

    HFM

    EPMA

Can anyone provide a high level of how they would be fully automate all of these objects, including the automation of deployment of applications of EPMA and in what order?

In addition, guidance on what to monitor (i.e. the issues or security) will be greatly appreciated.

The recommended route is to use LCM which has a command line utility, so can be automated, LCM also has the ability to export/import all objects by using a utility.

EPMA also offers a command line utility, so you can automate the deployment.

HFM, you can use the utility to copy app.

The problem you face is that LCM don't really remove it from target to make it work much better when it's a clean environment if you want to source and target to match.

    See you soon

  • CLOB DataType: conversion with loss when migrating to WE8ISO8859P1 to AL32UTF8

We have an application data in a database of output 9.2.0.8 (characterset WE8ISO8859P1).

Now, the data must be migrated in a 11.2.0.3 output database (characterset AL32UTF8).

When you run the CSSCAN utility on the target (9.2.0.8) database I get the following result:

    Table: MASTERCONTENT
    Column: INFO
    Type: CLOB
    Number of Exceptions: 116
Size of data Conversion MAX Post: 1489532

From my understanding CLOB objects can store up to (4 gigabytes-1) * (the value of the LOB CHUNK storage parameter)

data of type character. Or is the problem that can not get the characters of certain lines converted AL32UTF8?

Currently, I do not understand why "lossy conversion" will happen...

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Rgds

"Lossy conversion" means that some codes of characters (bytes) the CLOB listed are not recognized as valid in WE8ISO8859P1. These codes are usually in the range 0 x 80-0x9f. You must take a look at these codes and try to guess what is their true meaning. In most cases that meet Oracle customers, these illegal WE8ISO8859P1 are actually codes of WE8MSWIN1252 (WE8MSWIN1252 is a binary superset of WE8ISO8859P1). The solution is then to set the source game the good character of characters in database value and then export.

  • Re: Recommended way of migration & Upgrding Oracle from Windows to Linux

    Hello

I would like to devise a recommended plan the following:

    1 Server Oracle 10 g 2 is currently under Windows Server 2003.
    2. required to upgrade the database to 11 GR 2.
    3. migrate the database to the Linux platform.

Could you please share ideas and paths recommended for this job?

    Please and thank you!

    Kind regards

    Ken

The simplest method is to run and export / import - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/expimp.htm

I recommend that you use the same process for Dev and Production databases. PL answer other questions of the Justin - size and service interruptions will be the factors that will determine your approach

  • Migration Oracle 10.2 g recommended 11.2 g

    Hi experts,

I would like to know what best practices for migrating from Oracle 10 g (10.2.0.4) 11g (11.2).

    Any information is welcome,

What are the main benefits of migrating to 11.2?
    What are the major risks?
What documents can support the team?
Is there a common checklist to follow?
Where can I find documentation on this recommended?
Someone recommends a book / article / documentation?

    Thank you very much!

There will always be risks - the trick is to minimize the risks by making several upgrades to test and test your applications carefully against the improved test databases.

A lot of people have done this upgrade successfully.

  • Threshold of the DRS Migration recommended

Using a threshold of the middle of the road product migration a situation where some hosts are overuse RAM and others are underutilizing. What are the possible caviats / setting of traps to pass a threshold of 4 or 5 migration aggressive?

What types of problems / benefits were seen with this people?

    Thank you

VMotion operations take a long time.

But also consume resources: for example, the memory of the VM (for a while) is used on the source and the destination. Also, TSP is lost (and must be re - build if necessary) when a virtual machine is migrated.

So, I agree with previous post to stay on a level balanced or conservative.

  • Recommended posssibilities of 3d conversion?

I rarely go to the area of the forums of the adobe site only on the occasion of the questions I had for the projects I was doing. Yet once I plead for more help on a project for a 3d short film on middle of basketball players. I have a camcorder lended Panasonic 3d for a class I am taking. 3D is incredible with this unit and I have some impressive shots with the Panasonic 3d camcorder. Unfortunately, my comrades who I had shown some of the raw images to, my two best shots were shot at 720 30 fps (obviously 2d) on a Canon powershot (SX20 IS). It was pretty bad. I searched for a high quality for my short, but without these shots, I couldn't get the best score I could include video but it would be totally flat and our short films must be 3d at any time of the opening as credits. I have to say emergency to be able to convert my images 720 p 2d in 3d 1080 p images. I saw incredible upconversion to 720 p to 1080 p with Adobe media encoder cs5, but I need something with decent 3d conversion. Physically and logically it is really impossible, but I need something that can go wrong at least one of the eyes of the average person. I am very fit for Adobe After Effects CS5, so I was hoping there would be a decent plugin, but I guess I can compromise to a stand-alone program. None of the experienced people or professionals who could help me would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

2D to 3D conversion is not a simple task and small. Here are a few links to get you going in the right direction:

  • Conversion/Migration to esxi esxi 5.0 to 5.1

I went through the documentation for the VMware Converter, and it seems to be able to do what I want to do, but thought I'd ask here if:

    (a) someone actually did this successfully.

    (b) all that I am sure I won't be able to "test" this advance.

    The scenario

I have 2 separate groups of VMware - there is no storage shared networks, etc. They are managed by separate vCenter servers. VCenter systems can talk on the network (not WAN) but are separate areas of AD (with a relationship of trust)

    Source - ESXi 5.1

    Destination - ESXi 5.0

    Requirements:

-move VMs from the source to the destination cluster cluster.

-VM can be online or offline

-Source VMs can be to the hardware version 9, 8 or 7 (unknown) before hand

    -stop source

-raise VM in its new home (new SID, IP address)

Other than the obvious physical version changes and possibly re - install VMware Tools, is there something else I need to worry?

    Thanks in advance,

    Roger

    Hello

    (a) someone actually did this successfully.

A: Yes: I did and it works, you should be able to achieve everything that follows you mentioned.

    (b) all that I am sure I won't be able to "test" this advance.

A: Nothing from such, except that you should be able to reach the two environment of the machine where you installed converter that's ' all.

    Thank you

  • Recommendation on the steps of the Migration of vCenter

It is probably more typical I'm waiting, and if there is a guide somewhere, I'd be really grateful for a link. Like many people, we have installed Virtual Center on an existing VM by using the MSDE engine to reduce the need for an autonomous area to manage everything and to put the database on our SQL Server. Our environment has increased, and we need to move the installation of VC on his own machine and also want to move our SQL Server MSDE. Combine this with the recent release of vSphere, and I'm in a bit of a quandry. How to proceed?

    Some figures: we have

4 geographic locations, connected by VPN tunnels.

    9 hypervisors

    Virtual machines of 65-70

    I'd appreciate some tips

Here's a great article KB which will help you in the process

  • Compilation error after migration from 9i to 10g Jdev workspace

    Hello

    Nice day.

We have a few custom pages OFA under EBS 11i developed using Jdeveloper 9i, now we migrate these EBS 12.2.4 page.

After you open the old workspaces, the tool asked me to convert these packages to 10g, so I selected Yes.

Now, when I try to compile the workspaces, I get the below error:

Error(26,8): class oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement is not public; cannot be accessed from outside of package package driver

The original line of Java is:

    import oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement;

    Help, please

    Thank you

    JTK1977,

Your code should use the package oracle.jdbc instead of the package oracle.jdbc.driver used in earlier versions of Oracle. Using the package oracle.jdbc.driver is now deprecated, but will continue to be supported for backward compatibility.

All that is needed to convert your code is to replace " oracle.jdbc.driver "by" oracle.jdbc " in the source and recompile. This can be done Isoquant. You must convert all classes and interfaces that are referenced by an application. Conversion is not required, but is highly recommended. Future releases of Oracle may have features that are not compatible with the use of the package oracle.jdbc.driver .

    See the link below:

Oracle.JDBC (Oracle database JDBC Java API Reference)

Change your declaration of import as below:

    import oracle.jdbc.OraclePreparedStatement;

    See you soon
