Re: Recommended way of migration & Upgrding Oracle from Windows to Linux

Hello

I would like to devise a recommended plan the following:

1 Server Oracle 10 g 2 is currently under Windows Server 2003.
2. required to upgrade the database to 11 GR 2.
3. migrate the database to the Linux platform.

Could you please share ideas and paths recommended for this job?

Please and thank you!

Kind regards

Ken

The simplest method is to run and export / import - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/expimp.htm

I recommend that you use the same process for Dev and Production databases. PL answer other questions of the Justin - size and service interruptions will be the factors that will determine your approach

  • Database Oracle from Windows to Linux migration

    Hey guys,.

I'm database oracle 11g R2 in Windows 7 migration to Red hat 5 (64-bit) Linux using RMAN by transport.sql file. I installed Oracle 11 g R2 on the two system.

But the problem is that my data files are scattered in different locations (I mean that all are not in the same directory) and I did not have enough space to all copy in the same directory. Can someone tell me how I'm supposed to write several locations as value the NAME of FILE DB CONVERT parameter when creating transport using RMAN script, I know the command for a directory only.

RMAN > Convert the new database database linuxdb

    script of transport for "C:\test\transport.sql."

    db_file_name_convert 'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\' "C:\test".

    the platform "Linux IA < 32 bit >";

This command allows to convert all the files in the database that resides in the orcl directory and place them in the test directory. But in my case, all the files are not in the directory orcl

and I can't copy other files in there because I don't have enough space on the entire system.

I can't create transport script several times because it is incorrect.

I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

You can specify as many pairs of directories as needed

    db_file_name_convert = ('/ u01/ora/files ' ' / u02/ora/files ' ' / u01/ora/file9 ' ' / u02/ora/file9 ')

    1. check the compatibility of platform between source and target OS
    2. start the database in read-only mode
    3. check the availability of database for the transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB. CHECK_DB

    1. it is not necessary to change the character set of the database.

    2. Yes, you can migrate if the database version is different with rman. Yes, you can start the process between 10.2.01 on windows to 11.2.0.2 on linux

but remember one thing during the migration with rman-platform the Archives for the windows platform can be applied to the linx platform and vice versa to recover. If you need to take backup of database using time when no activity is performed, and no change in the database which happens.

  • moving from windows to linux host host

Does anyone have any experience with workstation pro 12 comments mobile from windows to a linux host computer host?

If Yes, can it be done?

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello

Yes, this is no problem at all.

Your VMS even will run on a Linux machine as they did under a windows host.

The only problem is that if you link to a resource that explicitly is windows-only.

For example. A share under a numbered car won't work, or not a cdrom on D:\

Your VM will indicate on startup. BTW, when he asked 'have you move or copy' then choose 'move' otherwise your virtual hardware will get new hardware ID and for windows which means triggering activation.

  • Migration of Essbase loading rules with source RDBMS from Windows to Linux

    Hello

We have essbase load rule with the sql data source. In windows, it linked through ODBC created using the ODBC Manager in Windows. The Essbase server in the Production environment is now on the linux machine. How to connect the rule files essbase with the SQL data source now?

    Kindly help.

    Kind regards
    SS

You must configure the odbc.ini file to add a data source - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_sql_interface/frameset.htm?ch02s03.html
If you have problems have a search for odbc.ini on this forum and you will see a few posts on the subject.

Given that the two BONES have same endian (little) you can consider converting database:

    Hi people,

I'm still new here and I'm working on a project. I'm trying to move a database 10 g of Windows on a new server with Linux 5. Please what are the steps I need to take?

    * The present Server (Windows 7) is in noarchivelog mode
    * There is practically no link between this 2 servers
    * This is a development environment, and so I have a lot of time to experiment.

    Thank you!

    Hello
DataPump (expdp/impdp) is the way to go. expdp create a 'logic' of the database dump - create some think it's just a series of statements and insert statements written in a file. This file is generic and can be used on any platform. If your shipping it a long way (not sure how far Virginia is you another site) you can zip it before sending it. At the other end you just need to create a database of "shell" - that is a very basic database which you are then going to create all objects (maybe version different oracle - with some restrictions). Then use impdp to transfer the file and create everything.

  • CF8 - switch from Windows to Linux - license?

    Hi all

I always try to get this answer by Adobe customer service, so I thought that maybe someone already knows the answer...

I want a server running CF 8 Standard in Windows 2000 to Linux. Before we begin, I want to know the implications of CF 8 license. Key cross-platform? Will I need to request a new key?

    Kind regards

I went ahead and was simply re - install, and the serial number originally used for the Windows version worked well for the Linux version.

  • Migration Forms 6i to windows 2003 and linux redhat 5 32-bit

    Hello
Our forms6i (no EBS) application is running on windows 2003.
We would like to switch to Forms 11 g on linux redhat 5 32-bit.
Is that what this migration is supported?
Can help with the steps to migrate forms 6i to linux?
    Thank you

    Yoav,
Take a look at Oracle Forms modernization Oracle Forms 6i with Oracle Forms 11 g. This document gives you all the information you need to perform the upgrade. As for moving from Windows to Linux, Oracle Forms is practically independent of the platform, because almost all the major operating systems are supported server. Take a look at The Documentation Oracle Forms and specifically the Forms Services Deployment Guide and the guides of Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation Guide for Oracle Portal, forms, reports and discoverer .

    Hope this helps,

    Nordine salvation,

I suggest you to refer the link: "How do I convert the character set for Oracle R12.1.1 running on 11.0.6 database Oracle US7ASCII' as it is very relevant to you."

Response to your previous post would be:

    S ' stick to a plan

-Try all of the activity on the TEST server for yourself

-Troubleshoot and debug all the question from A - Z

-On the successful implementation, make a backup of the Production and move the solution to PROD.

If possible, run a lot of questions while doing the character set migration oracle applications, database because it contains the application tables.

I accept the fact that EBS database is complicated to a database independent, but still all the features and debugging tools and troubleshooting is the same, although it is autonomous or EBS database.

We should do if we stuck to the top in with and truncate in the application according to the CSSCAN results tables,.

little tables when we checked in Metalink he says to avoid these tables which do not affect the database or application.

Try in a Test Server, the above link helps you on the issue. You can find answer to some tables with loss in metalink if it's a bug, just lift a SRt solve your problem.

What we must do if we are in important application tables, export and import will help in this issue.

No, if we have available data with loss, then we cannot use the Import/Export and we will have to use CSALTER instead.

is this the right method or must contact oracle support for assistance on important application tables.

YES, I personally recommend you try and paralleling have ongoing Oracle support. So that you will have a guide from A to Z, in the case you're wrong

    Hope this helps
