UMA or discrete memory?

Hello.

I was wondering if someone could help understand me the type of memory a DV7 7201ea. Looking to get a replacement screen and have two different products to choose from depending on the type of memory graphics.

Problem is that I have no idea how I would find that out. I looked on the card and I'm afraid I don't know what exactly I'm looking for.

Specifications are the following:

Hi CalliAlli, welcome to the Forums of HP. The "NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 M" shows that you have switchable graphics, which means that it has discrete memory.

I hope this helps.

    Hello:

The service manual doesn't list graphic adapters as discrete for models with AMD processors.

See the table in Chapter 1 on 1-2 and 1-3 pp.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02985882

So, I have to say that you need the Assembly of fan/radiator for a laptop AMD with the memory of the UMA.

The laptop has a graphics chip from ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 Series.  I understand that it has 512 MB of GDDR3 memory on the card.

  • Dv6-6060sa I have discrete graphics memory or graphics memory UMA? + Where is 'Fan System' B "

    Hello

I will try to replace a fan on my Pavilion DV6-6060sa laptop, I have been looking around on the net and read through the repair earlier to better understand which component needs to be replaced.

I'll be changing the system 'B' fan, as indicated by the message error at startup. (I tried the jet of air through the vents, but it did not work.)

In order for me to buy the correct number, I need to know if I have the Discrete or UMA memory.

As stated above, I have a Pavilion DV6-6060sa unit, the extract below comes from the maintenance manual.

    (12) heat sink (includes the thermal material replacement):

For use only with the computer models equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650
    graphics subsystems

    graphics memory
    512837 001

Intended only for computers models graphics subsystems with UMA
    graphics memory
    512830 001

Could you let me know what part number I require and also send me a link for a HP original spare part please?

The fan I will replace is the closure of the fan of the power button, looking down to the laptop from a view of eye birds that it is located on the upper left corner. The two vents (the left one) and the other on the part superior usud have hunted air of the fan, which is now not working. I guess it's the 'B' system fan and the heat sink?

Please can you confirm the above information?

Including a description of what 'B' system fan is? (Thank you)

    I appreciate your help, Simon.

    Hello

No, I'm talking about Device Manager. Hope that the sticker is good then your machine's discreet graphics because:

    • The UMA version applies to the motherboard that does not have a separate dedicated graphics chip. On this version, the graphics processing is managed by the North bridge chipset.
    • The discreet version applies to the motherboard with a separate chip to achieve all the graphics processors.

Based on the sticker, your machine has NVIDIA GEFORCE GT M 635

I was wondering if when I get a 1 GB of RAM I will be able to change the size of the UMA frame buffer memory? (for example, 256MB RAM - frame buffer, 512 MB of RAM of 32 MB - 64 MB frame buffer and 1 GB -?

    Thanks in advance!
    Thank you!
    Suddste

    Hello

As far as know not that the size of the memory is not decisive for the evolution of the AMU.
More important, it's the video chipset which is integrated into the motherboard itself. This chipset allows you to use a portion of the RAM for the frame buffer.
This is called unified memory architecture (UMA).
These settings you can change in the BIOS, and the highest value AFAIK is 128 MB.

    The PDADoc!

    Hello:

Yes it should be.  You need the module and cable.

See Chapter 3 on page 3-8, article #17 of the service manual.  There are two cables depending on whether you have UMA (shared system memory) or discrete graphics on your model.

Here is the link to the service manual. Please read part 4, preliminary proceedings.

Then read Chapter 4, page 4-42 and if you have the stomach for it, you will find the procedure to install the bluetooth module.
