Unable to activate Windows Vista due to the 'security error.

I have another computer that is currently "hard down" with hardware problems. I tried to use the startup disk original this machine to download Vista on a laptop instead.  I thought that either he would be acceptable since it would be only currently used on a PC, or later - as is typical with Microsoft software on shelf - it could be loaded on a desktop and two laptops.  How can I activate Vista on this laptop without the 'security error", at least temporarily.

Hey Mark_L_Storm

If vista is preinstalled on the computer "hard down", that it is linked to the original machine it is installed

It cannot be transferred to another machine

If a retail vista license, it can be transferred to another machine

but the rule is a vista = vista anytime facility license

"or later — as is typical with Microsoft software on shelf - it could be loaded on a desktop and two laptops."

This isn't the case at all

a vista license = a vista installation

    I am facing difficulties to activate the microsoft package, whenever I enter the product key printed on the label attached to my pc, it says wrong key.
    Help, please.

    The key to Microsoft, that you can find on the lower side of your laptop is not a kind of universal key and this key belongs to Vista preinstalled on your laptop. You got your laptop with Vista preinstalled. With your laptop, you have paid a license and an operating system.

    After recall of Toshiba you must create Toshiba Recovery DVD or this facilities you can use if often you want with your laptop. This version of Vista belongs to you and can only be used with your laptop.

    If you are using Microsoft facilities DVD you must have the key for this version. If you do not, you must purchase a key online and activate a preinstalled Vista version.

    Unfortnunately - since it is a process of recovery provided OEM - only help you can really get is OEM themselves.

    Windows XP can have trouble with the size of the player (depending on the installation media level of service pack that you use) or controller drivers.

    Are you sure it was your hard drive crashed and nothing else has been damaged?  Could be a bad controller, bad memory even a poor diet.

  • Unable to activate Windows Vista by phone

    I just installed my windows vista in my new laptop computer. I received the license key on a sticker on the back of my previous laptop. I've heard that I need to activate my windows by phone in my new laptop computer. But the telephone activation option comes after clicking on activate windows now in system under windows activation. It shows the following screen.

    Hello

    The reason that you can not activate it is because you cannot transfer your product key license/Vista of your old laptop to another laptop.

    You need to buy another license of Vista from somewhere, but Microsoft sells more than vista.

    If the computer/laptop comes with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) or is licensed to OEM System Builders, that the product key that came with the computer/laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

    OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) and the license OEM System Builders are related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when machine who dies.

    Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

    And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

    See you soon.

    This happens often because he sees it used already on your own computer (it can not make a difference).  If you mean that you can not activate automatically, try to do it manually:

    To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.

    I hope this helps.

  • Unable to activate Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

    I can not activate my new copy of Windows Vista because I was running XP Professional and started to read errors on my hard drive. Thinking it was just a matter of time before she didn't, I bought a new hard drive & a copy of Windows Vista upgrade.

    Thinking that I was OK because I got XP installed on the system, I did a clean install on new hard drive. Nope, XP should be located on the disk where I have installed Vista. I also wanted to keep a working XP if the copy

    I have my CD of XP Professional & key so I understand that I can install XP on the new drive and then install Vista. Is there an easier way? I tried activating by phone & said to call support.

    It is just a hardware change - why is it so difficult? Give me a windows where I can enter my key XP & my Vista key. Is this too much to ask?

    The news of evils, is from XP Pro to Vista Home Premium is not a path of evolution.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Vista/get/upgrade-your-PC-options.aspx

    Vista upgrade paths to the link above.

    And you can not legally do a clean install with an upgrade disc.

    You bought the wrong Vista Upgrade disc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "I also wanted to keep a working XP in case copy."
    If the upgrade was possible, what is not, you would not have been able to do the foregoing, as the XP license should be integrated into the Vista upgrade install.
    A single license is a single Installation.
    If the copy of Windows 7 that you installed an upgrade, please note the following:
    However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.
    15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.
    So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.
    I have a question about activation for windows 7 and sound very similar to trend below:
    I had one laptop I had for 5 years. It came with windows vista installed on it.  About 4 months ago, I bought windows 7 Home premium allowed for Latin America and the Caribbean. I installed it on the laptop and it worked fine. Then about 2 months ago the motherboard on laptop computer exploded and I bought a new laptop provided with windows 7 pre-installed.
    I want to do a clean format of this new laptop with my windows 7 CD. I have a license key I had with the CD which, according to the trend above is not valid and I will not be able to activate windows (even though I own the copy) I have also another key, I had with the laptop.
    My question is if I use the installation CD I bought and used the activation key, that I got with my laptop that I'd be able to activate it?
    What if they are of the same edition would you be able to use the product at the bottom of the laptop key.
    Before we do, have you tried to restart by phone.
  • Unable to activate Windows XP by using the sticker after replacement of equipment
    Original title: product activation
    The motherboard on my wife's computer fried, so I just replaced.   Centuries ago, it came with Win98 and slowly but surely making its way to XP Home.  I don't have the installation disc, but there is a sticker "authentic" in this topic.  But this product key is coming as invalid.  We have already sunk $500 in there and I don't want to upgrade to Windows 7 on this computer.  From multiple sources, I was told that all I have to do is call the number without Microsoft fresh to get an activation code, but this phone number is not found on your site!
    unless you have purchased the same exact motherboard model and specifications, you cannot activate the exact key even to different hardware, assuming that you have already used this product before and active key, it...
    That is not exactly true.  You may need to activate by phone, but I know people who have changed motherboards and have reactivated their facilities.  Die PCs.  Unless it is an OEM version, I don't think that there is nothing to prevent reactivation.
