Unable to connect to an instance by using EM but properly connect with SQL * more
Hello
I followed the following steps (from the document s/n 2 days):
1. I created a model (including the database) to an instance named "orcl" using DBCA, before we proceed to create the model, DBCA informed me that the Forum might be stopped, I told him to go ahead.
2. the model has been successfully created.
3. I am now unable to connect to the instance orcl using EM, but I can connect to this instance without any problem using SQL * more.
Question: Why am I not able to connect to the instance by using EM? and what should I do to fix this?
Thank you very much for your help,
John.

Hello
This is the information from microsoft on you assist on passwords
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/940765
If you are unable to connect to Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use the Windows Vista System Restore feature, or the Windows 7 system restore feature.
You may be unable to connect to Windows Vista or Windows 7 in the following scenarios:
- Scenario 1: You recently set a new password for the protected administrator account. However, you don't remember the password.
- Scenario 2: You type the correct password. However, Windows Vista or Windows 7 does not accept the password because the system is damaged.
- Scenario 3: You delete a protected administrator account. Now, you cannot connect to another administrator account.
- Scenario 4: You change an administrator account protected with a standard user account. Now, you cannot connect to another administrator account.

Unable to connect to / as sysdba
I see a lot of code examples and code snippets where people are connecting to / as sysdba. I've never been able to connect to. The only thing that worked for me was conn sys/password@foo as sysdba. Can someone enlighten me as to what "/" is and why I could not be able to connect to it? Should I be concerned?
CaptainPackers
Have you checked the user with whom you are done sqlplus connection part of the ORADBA group who is the owner of your binary oracle (the user who installed the Oracle software)?
You do not make use of authentication of the OS and that is why you will need to provide a password when connecting as sys.
You can learn more about the OS in the Oracle Documentation authentication - Tahiti

Unable to connect to the database instance: ORA-28001: the password has expired
Hi all
I'm on oracle 11g grid.
I get unable to connect to the database instance: ORA-28001: the password has expired (ERROR of DBD: OCISessionBegin) error.
I checked and found that my user dbsnmp expired password. I found the page on the grid control to change the password of user dbsnmp.
but I want to know. If I changed dbsnmp password using the grid control. Is there any other task I have to do after the change of user dbsnmp password.
Please let me know.
Thank youHi PK,.
If GC can reuse the monitored GENERAL to connect to the database account I can't think of anything you should do.
The database, what has happened is an 11g database? If so the security policy has been changed in this version, which means that in half a year you will still have a locked account of DBSNMP.If your company security policy allows, you can avoid this by changing the password_life_time to an unlimited number of default profile:
change the default profile limit password_life_time unlimited;Eric

I have admin rights and I am also present in the dba group.
When I try to connect with EZCONNECT chain it works.
Thank you.
You try to use the OS authentication to connect to the database. It is disabled. to connect to the database, you will need to login as "sys as sysdba" and provide the password.
to do this, check your file sqlnet.ora for the sqlnet.authentication_services parameter

Developer unable to connect SQL database Oracle as a SYSDBA
Hi all
Recently, I installed SQL Developer3.0 on my machine and try to create the connection to the local Oracle server. But something confuses me. When I login as normal role, it can connect DB successfully; When I connect as sysdba role named sys, it has always failed and show "name of user and password invalid. I don't know that the username and password are right, because I haved connected the oracle DB from pl/SQL with the same user name and password. And I also chose the role as sysdba. SQL Developer3.0 not support connect as sysdba? I would be very grateful if someone could give me a helping hand. Thanks in advance.Hi 851634,
Do you need a password for remote sysdba (old link) file?
Cannot connect as sysdba in Oracle Enterprise Management ConsoleYou can try to open a session (loopback) on the network as sysdba, which requires a password file.
