Please let me know what I can do to connect to the database to 8i.

Looks like it uses the driver g 11 then.
You can try to get around by changing your ORACLE_HOME in a batch (inside the sqldev folder) file:
set ORACLE_HOME = [your sqldev installation folder]
Start sqldeveloper.exe
Hope that helps,

Hi don,.Thanks for your reply.
My question is, we would have to apply the hands on review after completing exams Developer OCA to get our certification in post?PL/SQL Developer OCA or same PL/SQL Developer OCP have one hand on the requirement of the course.
You don't need to attend (yet) training for the latter.
Search requirements @ http://www.oracle.com/education/certification (locate under Certifications... View all certifications).

I can't connect to the database.
PL/SQL Developer <> Oracle SQL Developer.
But anyway...
Why not? Is it because you don't have a database to log? You cannot use SQL Developer to create a database. You will need to use the database Wizard or SQL * more to it. Or you can download a virtual appliance machine that already has an installation of database on this subject...
If you need more assistance in obtaining a database to learn with, I wrote a little more in depth here.

Installation of Oracle and SQL Developer data
Hi, I was looking for some help/advice with regard to the installation of an SQL Developer and Oracle database on a 32-bit Windows 7 computer. I have been asked to create a database to store the data that I create through reports in Excel format, so I'm required to create a local database but do not know how to do this. Also do not know if I install the Express edition or Oracle 11 g R2 database. If someone could please advise on how I can get this has begun or even links/tutorials that guide me in getting this installed with a localhost.
Thanks in advanc.

Thanks guys, I managed to install Oracle 11 g 2 and I installed a database using dbca tool and I can connect to my database. One thing I noticed is that when I look in my tables in sql developer I see plenty of tables different i.e. def$ _, logmnr_, etc. and I don't know why did I expect an empty table.
Thank you for all your help btw.
One of the fundamentals of relational databases is that they use their own facilities to manage themselves. This means that the database management system uses the database to manage data on the database using exactly the same facilities (tablespaces, tables, user accounts, procedures, etc.) that an application uses to store application data. See "data dictionary" so there is no such thing as a completely database empty.
As said by others, you do NOT want to create your own tables under patterns oracle (users) or in the disc spaces logics own oracle (esp. SYSTEM and SYSAUX). Create your own account user/schema. Create your own tablespace. Do this by default tablespace for the user.

Problem when creating new connection of database with SQL Developer
Hi all
I am a beginner and I want to learn Oracle add up to my learning
I installed SQL Developer on Linux Mint 12 (lisa).
The installation went well, but when I try to create a new database connection in SQL developer, I get the following error:
* Status: Failed - Test has failed: IO error. The network adapter could not establish the connection.* *.
Could someone please suggest where exactly, I'm missing?
Greetings - VishalHave you installed the oracle database software locally? Have you created a database called "oracle?
Developer SQL does not include a data base. For learning purposes, I recommend that you download Oracle Express Edition.

Unable to connect to Oracle XE
Hello
I know this topic has been covered many times before here, but...
I have a copy of Oracle XE on a laptop computer that I hadn't used for a while. After he sailed the http:// < host >/apex/apex_admin home page, today, I can not connect SYS or SYSTEM? I can connect OK for DB XE by SQLPLUS using these accounts, so know I use the password, what could be the problem? I get "invalid credentials"?
Thank you
MikeHello
OK, so you have improved the Apex on your XE.
After version 3.0, you cannot connect to the workspace with the user SYS or SYSTEM.
You have the workspace and workspace users to operate with Apex.
Even this link is for Apex 4.0, he explains the difference with Apex version provided by default XE 2.1 and later
http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/Apex/upgrade-Apex-for-XE-154969.html
(I have not found page more where is the same but for Apex 3.2)You can control the instance of the Apex and all the workspace workspace IN-HOUSE.
Connect to the workspace IN-HOUSE with the ADMIN user.If you don't remember ADMIN password, download 3.2 install files.
http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/Apex/3-098787.htmlYou can reset the ADMIN password with script apxchpwd.sql

Creation of a new database Oracle and Sql Developer
Hello
I am a newbie to Oracle and and a beginner not so Sql Server and Visual Studio.
I am trying to learn Oracle on my local machine. I want to create a new Oracle database and start learning from here.
I downloaded the Client Oracle sql developer and maker of data. Could someone please provide some guidance on how to create an Oracle database?
From the responses, it seems that none of the articles I've mentioned actually creates a database. SQL Server provides a free download, also a developer version for a small fee. What specific Oracle product would be better to provide this type of service?
Thank you
Mark
Published by: user8948230 on January 7, 2010 09:50You can download the company for educational use via the OTN site. There is also the Express edition, which includes limits on the OTN site as well.
Whatever it is, read the agreements to make sure that you use it properly.

Unable to connect to Oracle UCM, but the server seems to work
Hey everybody,
So when I point my browser to my cms url, I get to the standard landing page the defaul 'comments' to the Home Page.
When I click on the link to try and connect, I can't connect.
I ran the IdcServer command and the server seems to be generating a log output. I also ran the idcserver_start command and the command idcadmin_start.
Poth have process IDs. However, I am still unable to connect.
All the world has never met a problem like that, or know the two fix/debugging better?
Thank you!
Hey guys,.
I solved the problem. The apache server had stopped running, there's nothing listening on the port that is used to access our content server.
Thank you all for helping me along

Unable to connect to Oracle Database 11.2 XE Beta
Hi all:
Try to connect to Oracle Database XE Beta 11.2, the fields are workspace, user name and password. How will I know the workspace.
Thank youWhen you try to open a session?
If you go to boot (http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f? p = 4950), should open the home page of the database.
Now click the tab "APEX" or red button, connection on request with a user name of database, and you will have the chance to create a workspace Apex.See the XE getting started Guide - 6.1 [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/admin.112/e18585/toc.htm]. Getting started with Application Express
To explore the APEX, the Documentation Library [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/welcome.html] for APEX 4.0 should come in handy.

export ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/app/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1
export ORACLE_SID = textdb
export PATH = $PATH: $ORACLE_HOME/bin
Please note that you have created a database TESTDB, but in your bashrc file you set the SID as TEXTDB, please fix:
Please, try the following:
-Create a new file as initTESTDB.ora instead /home/oracle/app/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/dbs
-Have entries
DB_NAME = TESTDB
CONTROL_FILES =
-Save and exit
Now give it a try.
