  You should have installed Service Pack 3 a long time ago.

  When it came out first, Service Pack 2 for XP did NOT support WPA2 encryption.  That support was added by several updates and eventually was incorporated into SP3.  So... the first question is: when you have changed the password in the router configuration utility, have you also changed the encryption to WPA to WPA2?  In other words, have you ever been able to connect to this computer to a router using WPA2?

  Hello. Using a 2012 MacBook Pro runs El Capitan 10.11.4 and unable to connect to Wi Fi home exclusively. We had to Time Warner to get out.   That's the only reason why I can think that now prevents you from being able to connect on a network with WPA2 Personal Security.
