  • Unable to get Windows Update after formatting

Hi, my computer was not working and decided to format. When I formatted, he reversed himself to XP/SP2. Now I can't get Windows Update to work. I can't update Windows Update, install Microsoft Updates or get updates, not even when I tried to do it from the website. The website shows a couple of updates, but when I try to download/install, it fails.

It seems I need to update to SP3 to get updates, but when I try this, told me to go to the updates of Windows. And once again. I can't do this, because it does not work. Is there anything I can do to update to SP3 and get my updates?  Thank you

My computer has been pretty well updated, but now it's back to its native form:

    Windows XP/SP2

    IE6

Have not reinstalled AV, because the computer is not letting me do

I have a Super Antisuperware installed at the moment.

    Thank you

  • Windows updates failed to download with the error code 641

Hi, I have windows home basic and started having a problem getting my updates [error code 641] there were 7 now there are 9 that I can't seem to download. I've been in contact with microsoft and have clusters of solutions but nothing worked. I see that many people have the same problem and they tried the same thing, I tried to no advail. I searched through all my updates and found on 19-09-09, he tried to download service pack 2 and it was cancelled so I tried to reinstall and it tells me that it is already installed. I tried to fix it several times and it says that the problem has been fixed, when I check on the windows installer it says that is not installed correctly but when I try to reinstall it says I have corrupted files and cannot be installed. in April of this year, I had system machanic and I read that it might cause part of the problem so I talked to them and they tried to solve the problem and they could not say that there something to do with service pack 2 is not installed, I'm really not so concerned as to who the fault is that I'm getting repair. as I said I tried everything microsoft has sent and nothing worked I don't know where to go or what to do next - please help! Thank you judy

  • Impossible to get windows update or microsoft update to work after the factory restore

I just restored my computer laptop runnung xp sp2 to factory settings and now I cannont get windows update to function (0x8024400A error code) and I can not update microsoft to work (error code 0 x 80240036).  I can access the internet, navigate, dl files etc. just can't get windows updates.  I disabled the firewall and antivirus still cannot operate.  Tried to fix it, SP3, but must for this and I can't seem to install manually.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

Okay, roll up your sleeves! :-)

(For best results, download all the Setup files below before you restore your computer to its factory settings. Files can be downloaded or copied to a USB flash drive).

    Preliminary work:

Download the installation files (only if necessary!) SP2, SP3, IE8 and Avira Antivirus (beforehand). I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of four files:

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=28 (for SP2) (Note: you don't need to install SP2 if your home is already SP2 or SP1 even.)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

http://www.Avira.com/en/Avira-Free-Antivirus (for FREE of Avira version)

    1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

    2. turn your PC to its factory settings.

    3. remove the PC-Cillin was COMPLETELY (see above).

    4. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

5 install SP2 (only if necessary!). Restart TWICE.

    6. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

6 switch to IE8. Restart TWICE.

    8. install anti-virus software.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

9 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

10 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

    11. reactivate the automatic updates.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

How to install a device driver in Vista Device Manager
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-Device-Manager-install-driver.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

  • Ripping my hair out on Vista Home premium unable to download windows updates.

    Hello

I'm WU notify the value and then I click to install. Updates to April 2016 installed OK.

In may initially tried to install on the 20th (we had been absent) and just hanging at 0%. Tried again the next day and got the same. Run malwarebytes, spybot, and then full scan AVG (free version). Not bad found, only the usual tracking cookies which I deleted. I tried to install again still clinging to %. I ran sfc/scannow nothing reported and wrote a check for windows and tried again the next day - even once stuck at 0%. Tried a couple of times over the next few days, tried with temporarily off AVG and even with the firewall-no joy. Then the updates installed normally may 26. I assumed (wrongly) that it was a problem at the end of microsoft which had been fixed.

This month, I get the same hanging of 0%. I went through my usual as cheques above but it sticks just at 0% then when I cancel and close there give the install updates and shutdown option, but there's nothing to install.  When I cancel the update process (after trying for long periods of time and still stuck at 0%) Although it cancels and closes the window, the Task Manager show sychost.exe using more 50% usage do so select services, and then stop the service wupdate or it really slows down this poor old machine.

  • Impossible to get Windows Vista Mail to work since the installation of FireFox

In recent weeks, been unable to access the Internet or use any messaging service using IE8. Internet Explorer opens not - except in safe mode with network. I spent several hours to solve this problem without success. Then as a last resort, I downloaded and installed Firefox and in normal mode the page Firefox came and I have full access to the Internet and Microsoft Hotmail - however I can't get Windows Vista Mail to work.

WMUtil is very easy to perform and can fix things.  Especially if you got rid of McAfee.  You may still need to remove your e-mail account and then add again, but it's also easy to do.

Many people find Thunderbird much more preferable to alternatives to Microsoft.
