  Manual procedure to solve the "0x800A01AE" or "0 x 080070570" error messages to manually resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and the automatic updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
     1. Click Start, click run, type cmd, and then click OK.
     2. At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
        net stop wuauserv
        net stop bits
        output
  2. Rename the Catroot2 folder.

     Note Do not follow this step if you are using Microsoft Windows 2000.

     To rename the Catroot2 folder, follow these steps:

     1. Click Start, click run, type cmd, and then click OK.
     2. At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:
        
        net stop cryptsvc
        Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
        net start cryptsvc
        output

     Important Do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot. The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder is not recreated if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot.

  3. Rename the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution":
     1. Click Start, click run, type %any, and then click OK.
     2. Right-click the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
     3. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.
  4. Save the files used by Windows Update and Microsoft Update. To do this, follow these steps:
     1. Click Start, click run, type cmd, and then click OK.
     2. At the command prompt, type the following commands, press ENTER after each command, and then click OK every time that you receive a verification message:
        regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
        regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
        regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
        regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dllcache\wucltui.dll
        regsvr32 wups2.dll

  Here is an article that meets your specific error message regarding updates:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900936.  I am surprised that the error occurs with all the updates, but there may be a difference between them that causes the problem for definitions, but not for others.  I hope that this will solve the problem.

  I tried to install Java 6 Update 31 but you first need to uninstall my previous version. I am currently using Java 6 Update 30. If I try to uninstall, reinstall, or update, I get the same error. I get an error saying that it cannot find the file ' jre1.6.0_21 - c - l.msi "in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_21. I tried to reinstall Java 6 Update 21 to get the file back, but everything is always for me, it's either "jre1.6.0_21.msi" or "jre1.6.0_21 - s - l.msi. I need the file "c - l" not "s-l". I found no where to find anywhere.

  No worries! I found the solution. I used to remove the earlier version of Java in my system, and Java 6 Update 31 successfully installed JavaRa.
