Unalterable audit NFS mounted data warehouses

Hi all

I searched for a cmdlet or function that returns if an NFS volume is mounted read/write or read only on a node.  The use case for this looping through a vCenter to ensure volumes that need to be mounted read-only were not accidentally mounted read/write during a reconstruction of node.  I haven't found something that returns this value.

Is there something available in PowerCLI who will provide this information?

Thank you

Jason

Try something like this

foreach($ds in (Get-Datastore | where {$_.Type -eq "NFS"})){    $ds.ExtensionData.Host |     Select @{N="DS";E={$ds.Name}},      @{N="RemoteHost";E={$ds.RemoteHost}},      @{N="RemotePath";E={$ds.RemotePath}},      @{N="ESXi";E={Get-view $_.Key -Property Name | Select -ExpandProperty Name}},      @{N="AccessMode";E={$_.MountInfo.AccessMode}}}

If you want to only see those read-only, you can add a Where clause

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 NFS mounted data store is read only

I've done this dozens of times in the past, but not with this exact combination successfully:

    ESX4 U1

Windows 2008 R2 Server Datacenter edition

NFS Server installed. TCP Version 3.

The normal configuration that worked in the past:

NTFS security - total control on ANONYMOUS logon, everyone control total

The local policies, network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users (applied automatically by Windows)

    NFS Sharing - ANSI encoding, allow anonymous access - UID = - 2, GID = - 2

NFS share permissions - allow all THE MACHINES read-write, ROOT access

The data store adds OK and appears in the list of data on vClient stores and can be viewed or directly via a Console logon.

The problem is that the data store is read only! Nothing from ESX can write, delete, or update a folder or a file on the data store. Access Windows NTFS is very well.

This means also you cannot boot from say a CD ISO on the data store, or create a VMDK guest virtual computer on the data store.

Given that I had zero problems with this in the past, when with the help of ESX3 or ESX4 connect to Windows Server 2003R2 or several NAS with NFS devices supported I think Windows 2008R2?

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I use it currently; It works fine, but it's the way that you configure the windows nfs export without having to use a mapping service (see images)

Also, be aware that Windows System Cache is a bit less efficient than linux (but that's ok) you just need to add additional RAM at least 16 GB for the data store busy.

I also recommend refining delays in setting up nfs for each virtual machine host:

    NFS. HeartbeatFrequency = 10

    NFS. HeartbeatFailures = 5

And on windows change the properties of the NFS server in the locking tab

    customer collection lock wait 5

  • 5.5u2 ESXi host will not mount CF data warehouses

I am the admin in a test lab, so many times I have to "make do" with what I have for the material.  I recently reassigned a R910 Dell with 64 GB memory in a 5.5u2 ESXi host.  It has some storage SAS (2.5 to) and some (CT 11) directly connected FC storage and some FC HBAs for use by VMs to send data to the tape library.

Recently, we had a power failure, and this host does not reconnect to the CF storage when she returned to the top.  (Duty to "make do" with what I means not having is not the capabilities of UPS).  I can tell the host of HBA see it properly and sees the LUNS on RAID controllers, but refuses to mount.  I go through the add storage Wizard, and he sees that there is a store of data storage VMFS, but always refuses to mount.  I also tried to remove the redirection to the two FC HBA that have been set up for this purpose, but it made no difference.

I have now three users unable to work because they cannot access their virtual machines on storage of this FC.  I can't even transfer them off to use the SAS storage form.

I think it might be the cause file system damage, but I'm not sure.  Someone at - it suggestions?

Have you ever tried to set up data warehouses from the command line (see, for example, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1011387)?

  • ESXi V5.0 U1 - activate SIOC on creating NFS data warehouses?

I read on the IGCS implementation on our warehouses of NFS data because of a problem experienced by the following KB:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 2016122 & sliceId = 2 & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & dialogID = 669628658 & StateID = 1% 200% 20669648380

I have opened a support ticket and have decided to allow the SIOC for our data warehouses, even if the support could not tell me if it was something I could do on the production.  My assumption would be that adding this additional configuration would not be a problem, although I have questions, confirming that.  Everyone helped SIOC on live production data warehouses?

    Thank you

Yes, you can activate without risk IGCS to a data store active with running virtual machines.

  • Get-stat - disk for virtual machines on NFS data warehouses

    Hi all

Through work for VMs on NFS data warehouses get-stat-disc?

    $myVM | Get-stat - disc

Doesn't seem to work for VMs on NFS data warehouses, but that works for VMs on VMFS data warehouses.

    After a presentation of VMware to http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:h78Db7LqHcwJ:www.slideshare.net/vmwarecarter/powercli-workshop+%2Bget-stat+%2Bnfs & cd = 2 & hl = in & ct = Europeans & gl = at the & source = www.google.com.au

«WARNING: NFS performance statistics are not available (to come in a future version of vSphere).»

When these statistics are available for NFS data storage?

    Kind regards

    marc0

The answer is in the property of instance data that Get-Stat returns.

    (1) get-Stat ==> canonical name of the LUN on which disk the hard

    (2) get-Stat virtualdisk ==> The SCSI id of the virtual disk inside the VM

    (3) get-Stat data store ==> the name of the data store

    (1) you give statistics for view virtual machine i/o activity starting from the LUN. For a VM with several virtual disks on the same data store, this will display the total IO statistics. And it will also include i/o generated by another VM on the LUN as swap, Flash files related...

    (2) gives statistics for 1 specific virtual disk of your virtual machine

    (3) statistics of e/s of your VM to a specific data store. Interesting when you have a store of data with multiple extensions (multiple LUNS)

I hope that clarifies it a bit.

  • RS 4 and NFS data warehouses

Hi, I have a problem with SRM and NFS data warehouses

When I set up the table through vCentre Customer Manager in the MRS Plugin I get the following message when scanning for NFS data storage

"Replicated devices could not be matched with inventory data warehouses."

We have a 4.01 vSphere server with ESX 3.5u4 hosts.

    SRM 4.0 is deadlocked.

Our storage is on IBM Nseries N5600 reporting using DataOntap 7.2.5.1.

The SRA we use are ver 1.4 of IBM.

Someone at - it never experianced this problem and if so how to fix it.

    Thank you

    Mahmood

I used this SRA without any problems, so I suspect that something is wrong with your replicated configuration of NFS export.

To help further, I would need to see the SRM journal from the site server protected SRM immediately after seeing this message. You can download that on this subject?

I also suggest that you connect a SR with VMware support, because they can help here as well.

    see you soon

  • ESXi 4.1 - blades HP and NFS mounts

    Hello

I'm having a strange problem with NFS access

We currently use HP Blades BL680c G5 servers, in C7000 enclosures. Configuration of the switch, Cisco (3120 x) are the same for all ports / ESXs.

I use VMNIC0 and VMNIC1 in etherchannel / Hash IP access to the warehouses of data NFS on NetApp filers.

I have now two servers beside I want to reverse for test reasons. These two servers are moving instead of the other.

Once restarted, these two hosts ar sees no no more data warehouses. They appear as inactive. I can't reconnect them (VI client or esxcfg-nas - r)

vmkping for Netapp file servers works more also.

As soon as I put these 2 servers to their original square, everything is back to normal.

On the side of the cisco switch ports are still configured the same. None of them are closed.

There I'm missing something, but don't know where to look.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Hernandez,

If you're repatching hosts or they always use the same network cables as before (perhaps a change of IP address, or a rule on the host of the NFS export)

don't forget, you'll have policies created on the NFS mounts 'export' these fixtures for the names of specific hosts or IPs - if you're repatching and change IP etc you can cause this export invalidation,

  • unmonitor storage of specific data warehouses connectivirty

    Hello

We conduct the following isue: we do backpups Exchange using SnapManager for Exchange NetApp. Once the task of backup, the backup is verified by the mounting of a LUN on the server. The problem with this is that, after the audit, the LUN is disconnected and that the alarm is set on the vCenter that a data store has lost connectivity.

What we would like is to avoid alerts on this specific LUN (it is always LUN0) used only to verify the backup.

We have tried to set an alarm (storage connectivity), but it also detects this logic unit number that we do not want to detect.

Thank you in advanced for your comments.

    Best regards

    Miguel

I see.  In this case, I believe you can use the new functionality of object datastore in vSphere.  You can change where you place your alarm data store.  In other words, go to your view of data stores, create a folder, call followed computer data warehouses and add your alarm data store it.  Next, move all data storage you want to look in this folder.  All new data store that is created will be outside of this folder and will not be subject to this alarm.

  • Sync data warehouses on hosts

    Hello

I'm trying to write a script that will add some data warehouses NFS missing on a specific host that is present on another specified host and I'm unable to find the correct variables from Get-data store. In the foreach loop in the warehouses of data on the source host, can I use $_. Name, but I also need to NFS mount point and name server. I tried to find out what Get-Datastore returns effectively with Get-Member, but it seems that the object contains only six properties and none of them point to where is the NFS file system. Is there any command integrated to present the entire object and its properties to the screen to know these things?

    Thanks in advance!

    Daniel

    Hi Daniel!

You can get more information to view the NFS datastore objects using. Here is an example:

    > $nfsDSView = get-VMHost-name

$nfsDSView.Info.Nas.RemoteHost and $nfsDSView.Info.Nas.RemotePath are the NFS mount the values you need

Are the T2P scripts supported on NFS mounts? If so, how to solve this problem? Would appreciate your comments on how we can solve this problem

    Shiva

The issue was due to wrong settings for the frames. This has been fixed by the storage team. T2P scripts were always initially and after that correction of the Storage mounts, they ran successfully. A restoration was necessary, and RCU patterns had to be recreated on the clone

  • Formatted VMFS3 ISCSI data warehouses are compatible with ESX5.5?

    Hi all

I'm currently building an ESX 5.5 environment to run in parallel with my environment 4.1 existing and need the new 5.5 ESX servers to connect via iSCSI to a couple of VMFS3 formatted lun.

I can't see them via the iSCSI storage adapter, but when I try to mount it asks me to format first. I wanted to confirm if anyone else had this problem or has confirmed that VMFS3 is fully compatible with ESX 5.5 connected via iSCSI.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like that the MTU on my NICs is set too high. Once I lowered around 1500, they began to present correct data warehouses.

Thanks for the help, I think I have a handle on it.

  • Why CF CV data warehouses are not visible in VCAC

    Hello

    We have after installation

    ESX/VC 5.5 (GA)

    VCAC 6.0 (GA)

We are able to see all the warehouses of data, local, FC, and NFS in VC.

We have added VC as an endpoint in VCAC, but we are not able to see the VCAC CF data warehouses.

Anyone can throw some light on it?

In fact a server in the cluster could not see these CF data storages, solved the problem by removing the server from the cluster

  • The number of heartbeat for the host data warehouses is 0, which is less than required: 2

    Hello

I have trouble creating my DRS cluster + storage of DRS, I have 3 hosts esxi 5.1 for the task

First, I created the cluster, no problem with that, so the DRS storage was created and now I can see in the Summary tab

"The number of heartbeat for the host data warehouses is 0, which is less than required: 2".

I search the Web and there are similar problems when people has only a single data store (the one that came with ESXi) and need to add another but in my case... vcenter detects any...

In the views of storage I see the store of data (VMFS) but for some strange reason the cluster not

In order to achieve data warehouses minimum (2) can I create an NFS and map it in THE 3 esxi hosts? Vcenter which consider a play config?

    Thank you

You probably only have local data warehouses, which are not that HA would require for this feature (pulsations datastore) to work properly.

You will need either 2 iSCSI, FC 2 or 2 NFS volumes... Or a combination of the any of them, for this feature to work. If you don't want to use this feature, you can also turn it off:

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2012/04/05/the-number-of-vSphere-HA-heartbeat-datastores-for-this-host-is-1-which-is-less-than-required-2/

  • Fully connecting directly attached data warehouses in a cluster of ESXi?

I have deployed two identical 5.1 ESXi hosts (servers Dell PowerEdge r720xd) each to 5,46 with storage to direct connection. They are both currently enrolled in our vCenter Server 5.1 and participate in a HA cluster. Their respective databases are also members of a group of data store.

Each host is connected to its own data store, but not the other host data store. This effectively disables most of the HA/DTS features, and connection status of host for each data store is marked with a warning for missing connections. We have desire of VM migration and load balancing between the two hosts and the warehouses of data to be as homogeneous and transparent as possible.

My question is simple: what is the most practical and effective way to establish the necessary connections to reach a State fully connected to hosts and data warehouses?

    Hello

in this case you need something like a virtual appliance that uses your local storage to make it a shared storage. Your hosts can then access the storage via iSCSI/NFS. At the end of the day, you will have the space of a single node left (CT ~ 5.46), because the device (s) will reflect your data for more security against failure of the host.

The easiest way would probably be the vSphere Storage Appliance

But there are also other solutions as a virtual of DataCore and HP StoreVirtual VSA facility.

  • small environment - data warehouses how?

Hello.  I'm new to VMware and build a relatively small virtual server - 2 ESXi hosts and probably 8-10 VM environment.  I have a Bay of SAN storage with iSCSI, CIFS, NFS capability.  The virtual machine is your typical Windows - DC, SQL servers, web app, file servers.  I am looking for help on the implementation of data warehouses.  Is there a reason not to put all in the same data store?  May isolate the code SQL performance?

There are guides on best practices with that?

Of course I not'm not a storage expert so would appreciate any guidance at all.  Thank you

    Dan M.

Basically you can't go wrong here, I think.

My instinct would be to create 2 or 3, if you almost certainly (assuming that your table is reasonable to run/number of disks) be with one as well.

If I went with three I would do this:

    (1) for readers C: VM

    (2) for VM, with the exception of SQL data (data file server, any data drive for a virtual machine that is not only a pure 'utility' as a DC or an as...)

    (3) for SQL VM data

but really, it sounds too kill (even if it would not hurt you or make a burden of management...)
