Undo Tablespace - newbie question

Q1. An Undo Tablespace is required in a database? I thought that only agents were SYSTEM and SYSAUX of TEMP?

Q2. What happens if you do not have an Undo Tablespace?

Q2. How are they an Undo Tablespace to undo / Rollback Segments in a database?

Jim,

I did not notice that it is not mentioned in the documentation, or at least I couldn't find if its somewhere. But when 9i has been released, I'm sure that stated explicitly that the number of segments that would be created is 10.

However, what determines exactly how much is created in the first place? In my case, my database has 61 segments!

But are you sure that 61 segments belong to a single undo tablespace? My best guess is that you have several Undo tablespace created and the number of segments is of each of them. Can you check and confirm please?

I understand that the parameter UNDO_RETENTION will determin when these segments can be replaced, but I am trying to get my head round how my database has finished with 61 undo segments and will be he never ever get rid of the any of these segments? (i.e. is it just continue to add but never remove all know is that as a concept of the high water line?)

Not to my knowledge at least. I know that the number of segments can be less than the number 10, but more which would be created at any time and that too in such a number of top, no, did not meet any reference that has never mentioned it.

LSO a number of segments are offline - why should it be?

Yet once, which just goes to confirm my doubt that these segments are displayed including tablespaces offline are not defined by default for your database. A tablespace can be set to the default db only its segments, and it would have also shown online. Again, check parameter undo_tablespace and see dba_rollback_segs as if the segments that are shown as online, belong only this tablespace or more.

Our log tables generate too much to cancel because we need you connecting all these data (insert and update for the most part)... but we don't care about these log tables, we want to reduce the cancellation written for these tables logs so that we could use more flashback query timestamp older due to more space in the undo tablespace...

I think I mentioned in my other two answers above that it is not possible to disable the generation of the cancellation, or at least I don't know that there is no way to do it! What you can do, if you are worried about the Undo tablespace grows, it is that make you a tablespace size Undo fixed by controlling the Undo data that are generated. You can use Cancel Advisor of the to do. With the Undo retention period of your proposed, she would like the size of the Undo tablespace tips and you can add about 20-30% extra size and you should be fine. But as I've already said too much, he has No way to stop generating cancellation.

  • Transaction is written to the log file and it is not written to undo tablespace. During a failure of the system how oracle rolls back the transaction.

    Hi all

    My question is:

Transaction is written to the log file and it is not written to undo tablespace.

During a failure of the system how oracle rolls back the transaction.

I have already provided the answer, you ignored if well (you seem to only read the responses by people of your country).

Redo log is always written * first * before * writing to the data block (redo log writing is much more aggressive). So it DOESN 'T MATTER if you lose these scriptures of rollback segment.

Valuation: rear roller followed by roll forward, using redo log files and/or archive redo log files.

  • Need information on objects not expired undo tablespace

We are facing a problem in our database for 3-4 days.

The objects remaining in the database increases day after day. As our ts cancel autoextend enabled, it increases the storage space.

Currently the following is the scenario.

SQL > SELECT DISTINCT STATUS, SUM (BYTES) / 1024/1024/1024 GB, COUNT (*)

    2 GROUP OF DBA_UNDO_EXTENTS BY THE STATE;

    STATUS GO COUNT (*)

    --------- ---------- ----------

    61.5925903 10995 REST TO RUN

    3.33197021 356 EXPIRED

    ACTIVE 18.478515625

Thus, the remaining data 61GB while active is only 478 MB and expired is 3.3 GB.

    My questions are

    1. How can I check the object or sql query or a program that contains the data to cancel "RUN" so. How can I find the names of these objects?

    2. If I turned off autoextend undo ts if this solves the problem and take the new space to cancel from space to cancel remaining?

    Help, please.

    1. the UNEXPIRED is not bound to a query, but the UNDO for UNDO Tablespace retention period. And the Undo retention is a value set automatically when the parameter UNDO_RETENTION is minium.

    The Oracle Documentation says:

For an undo tablespace with the AUTOEXTEND option is enabled, the database tries to honor the specified minimum retention period by UNDO_RETENTION . When space is low, instead of crushing the cancellation information remaining, the self-aggrandizing tablespace' extends. If the MAXSIZE clause is specified for an auto-croissant undo tablespace when the maximum size is reached, the database can begin to replace the cancellation information remaining.

    2. Yes this will fix the issue that now the calcution for UNDO retention is different.

You started this thread, ask questions about the size of UNDO limit; which is a direct function of DBA_DATA_FILES.

Then you changed question about County segment UNDO. which is a direct function of DBA_SEGMENTS.

so take your decisions about what question should be answered.

    Hello
I'm trying to remove 90 columns of a partitioned table big. I was trying a physical decline first and since it takes more time, I decided take unused columns and drop them. However, I could put in unused condition.

  • Hardware blackBerry Smartphones Dumb newbie question! :)

    Hi people,

I'm new in the world of the blackberry and I'm about to take the plunge with a unlocked sim-free BB Bold to use in the United Kingdom on Vodafone. I read on the differences of software between BIS and BES and would go for a set - up BIS. My dumb newbie question is equipment arrives in version BES or BIS or not?

Thanks in advance and do not hesitate to make fun of my madness

    craigdh wrote:

Good answer Xandrex. However I'm still not clear as to the issue of equipment, I asked. The reason why I am wanting to buy "BOLD" a separate contract is.

    1. it will work a little cheaper over the life of a contract.

    2. I will get my "BOLD" much faster.

3 UK networks have a reputation for crippling features in high-end etc phones then charge you more to get similar functionality via one of their services.

    4. they are very slow to provide updates of the firmware on their own brand of appliances.

There was a little insinuation in my answer: basically, you buy a mobile phone, so you get a BIS/BES contract with a carrier who takes in charge that the mobile phone. A "BOLD" can be used like BIS or BES, it depends on the company.

On the price, I'm sure the phone deal + contract is always cheaper than a "BOLD" (retail and not eBay from some guys) then a contract which is usable (that is, no GoDaddy or 0.01GBP / KB).

for the speed, you are the one who knows.

The thing of the cripping: the thing is, the updates are provided only by the suppliers (they get a barebone RIM OS, then add their stuff like facebook or AOL). Even if you buy a single "BOLD" without a contract, if you want to upgrade the regular way, you wait fot your carrier to publish the upgrade. Or you can do the regularly (which can be made with or without the purchase contract at the same time).

There is not much need of DTM, but it is convenient to update the OS of your BB. Sometimes there will be releases of minor bugs corrections and such to your BB - DTM will be meaningless and install them, while updating wireless could not detect them. For a major OS update, you want DTM, as it will do a backup/complete restoration of your BB, including configuration settings, and others so that you don't have to redo those. But, to your e-mail, calendar, contacts, etc. - you are right, it is useless given that your Exchange Server is actually your master with your BB being actually a backup of that (in a sense).

In addition, USB drivers (which are part of the package DTM) are necessary in order to charge your BB via your laptop USB. You can download and install all the USB drivers if this is the only part of the DTM you want.

When you install it, it will ask if you are in a company - say Yes and it will install properly. Installation when your PC is connected to your corporate network and your Outlook is open. Who will get the best and fastest configuration. When you install, do not let it select the functions of auto-launch... If you wish, attach your BB and manually run the DTM.

Basically, on the whole, I vote 'YES'. You get the USB charging. You can save if you wish. You get the device OS and other updates. Most of the reported problems are people using it to synchronize via USB things - you won't do that because most of your stuff will be syncing via BES OTA. Other things, you can simply drag-and - drop (music, videos, etc.). .. .follow these instructions (use the latest 5.0 DTM):

Good, please excuse my ignorance... guys xD

I just bought two s BlackBerry Curve 8530 from Sprint. I'm pretty tech savvy, but there are some things about this phone, I can just enter in two or three days I got em:

Deleting photos: Well, then I'm in my media folder, in the images. I selects a photo and press the BlackBerry button and select Delete. Then he said: it is read-only, and when I remove it, the icon is still there. I tried to turn on/off the device, and it's still there. Thought this one myself. I plugged it up to the Desktop Manager and all of a sudden all the photos I had taken appeared. I was also able to delete using the "BlackBerry" button and then "delete". It doesn't give me that read this option.

Saving images: So, for some reason I can't save more photos. I don't know even how I saved the first 12 photos I have taken... but now it won't save any more. What the hell happened? xD I have a 2GB card in my phone... surely these 12 images didn't fill in this card... Thought this one myself. I plugged it up to the Desktop Manager and all of a sudden all the photos I had taken appeared.

Buy ringtones: On my old phone LG, I used to buy ringtones RealTone Jukebox... where they had extracted from songs that I could download for a crazyhigh. Where can I buy the real music ringtones for BlackBerry? What I do myself?

Media moving to my PC?: I went through the music store of Sprint comes with my camera, and two purchased songs. I want to know if I can get these songs out of my BlackBerry smart phone and my PC. Also, if anyone knows what format they are in (if they bought before Sprint music store).

Turn off the sound of the camera?: My camera makes the shutter of the camera, even when noise silence. Is there a way to stop this?

Auto keyguard: I have EPIC hand-dial to people purse. In my view, it has a keyboard lock button in the dashboard of BlackBerry (that is the correct term for this?) It is recommended to buy a microSD card to store your multimedia files, if you run out of memory on your device.

Depending on what OS is your BlackBerry tells you what size you can buy a microSD card. You can check under Options | Topic (will appear as v4.xx.xxx). Look at the table on the following link to see what size you can get - http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461

On the BlackBerry, go to Options | Media Media Card recommended parameters are:

    Media card support: WE

    Encryption mode: NO

    Mass storage support: WE

Auto enable mass storage Mode when connected: YES

Mass storage mode allows your BlackBerry to act as an extra drive when it is connected to your PC. It will appear as an extra drive letter in Windows Explorer. So you can just drag/release the multimedia files on your memory card

When I say commit frequent, I won't commit after each line, I just want to commit after may be million lines, so that my active cancellation extend turn into cancellation remaining will extend and Oracle will be able to use it in case of pressure of space.

    Note:

    UNDO_MANAGEMENT: AUTO

    Undo tablespace retention is NOGAURANTEE.

Our undo tablespace in NO mode autoextend and like this is just a one time event, we will not increase it.   He is currently 6 GB.

    Why don't you increase it?

You must use the correct size of UNDO necessary for the work that will be done.

A lot of shops to create a for big lots new UNDO tablespace and then switch to it for batch processing. Once the task is completed, they switch back to the normal UNDO. That prevents the normal RETURN of autoextending far where it is normally necessary:

    ALTER SYSTEM SET UNDO_TABLESPACE
