Uninstall or disable CS4 before installing CS5?

(Win 7 64, Production Premium CS4)

I know this question has been asked a lot; I read a dozen of discussions on the subject, but I can't find a definitive answer... so I thought I would ask:

Should I uninstall Prod Prem CS4 first, before installing CS5 Prod Prem?

Is there a risk that CS5 upgrade Setup does not, because he can't 'see' a before, version of qualification?

(maybe the CS5 Installer needs to find some CS4 files to validate the upgrade?)

I thank you all.

PS - I would like to run both versions at the same time, but I'm trying to save space on my OS/Apps drive, which is an SSD.

Thanks again,

Richard

Oh well, thanks anyway - I spoke with Support Chat Adobe and got the answer-, Adobe recommends that to keep the existing version and the upgrade next to him, but if you want to save space, you can uninstall (and disable) first CS4.

The CS5 upgrade installer does not need to 'see' all files in an earlier version, you simply use your CS4 (or whatever the version you're upgrading to) serial number for activate CS5.5.

Certainly, you should disable all software before uninstalling. But do not install CS3-CS5. Just having the serial number handy for checking. That said, according to the needs of the user, you can let CS3 available.

You have the right idea.  You don't have to install CS4.  At some point during the installation of CS5, you will be asked to enter the serial number for CS4 to confirm that a facility upgrade valid

  • Not possible to deactivate CS4 - after installing CS5.5

    Hello

Today I installed my new CS5.5 update on my Mac and now I wanted to disable and uninstall my old Suite CS4 - but it won't work.

And Yes, I've already checked my firewall - off - but no luck.

I tried to disable it in Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash - same problem.

Can I now uninstall CS4 from my Mac without disabling?

Any idea what the problem might be?

    Thank you for any suspicion

If you follow the instructions to disable the software but is not working for some reason, then you should just contact support Adobe - they really are the only ones who can help and can manually disable the database on their end.

  • Remove the CS4 after installing CS5 - cloudy

Hi, I removed CS4 after working with CS5 for awhile. Now, all the .jpg, .cr2 etc are more related to the PS in Windows Explorer. I tried to add a link to them, but Photoshop is not in the list of possible programs and manually choosing PS by navigating to the folder of programs is not be accepted. Even in the bridge, doubleclicking a jpg now opens Powerpoint, something I really don't need :-)

Any ideas? I ran the installer from the CD again, but nothing helped.

Looks like that in the recesses Sun from my memory, others with similar problems should change something in the registry.  But only a search to find this thread.

You have tinkered with file associations?  In bridge, go to edit/preferences/file Healt.  Set the default CS5 for file types.

OS, go into Control Panel, default programs, associate files.

    I hope this helps.

I think that if you have a volume license you don't get also the Deactivate option.

  • Should I uninstall CS4 master collection before installing the master collection CS6?

I bought CS6 Master Collection (DVD) and I wonder if I need to uninstall CS4 before installing the new version?

Depends on what plug-ins and tools you use, and whether or not they are compatible with the CS6. If this isn't a problem, and you are reasonably sure you don't need a fallback option, to uninstall CS4 before installing the CS6 is indeed the way to do it. It is completely optional.

  • Uninstalling CS3 and install CS5.5 (Master Collection)

I bought CS 5.5 master collection so that I could use this CS3 master collection on another older machine.  My question is this: what is the best way to uninstall CS3 Master collection on my current machine (Windows 7-64 bit) so I can then install new version full CS5.5 master collection? Also, should I be aware of as much as on the old settings of backup software?  Just try to avoid headaches.

The only thing you need to worry is all "presets" that you have created yourself. So actions, swatches, brushes, etc. must be saved. Its best to uninstall before installing cs5 cs3 and not after, as this can cause problems with file associations.

If the second computer that your intend to put cs3 on is your only other computer, you should be able to use cs5 on it instead, that the license is supposed to be for the 2 systems, but only one can run at a time. To my knowledge, this license does consider the version number of the software. So if cs5 if on your new system and a laptop for example, do not put cs3 on a third computer because the license is for what I assume to be an upgrade.

If you have paid the full price, then the last paragraph is a moot point.

    Hi Dm606,

You don't need to uninstall Photoshop Element 6 before installing

    Photoshop SetupUpdates12.

However, it's totally your voluntary decision to uninstall PSE6 but he won't give you any

    problem if the versions coexist.

    I hope this helps.

  • Should I uninstall before installing PS CC Photoshop CS5?

Should I uninstall before installing PS CC Photoshop CS5?

    It is not necessary.

in general, you should leave it installed. you might need some plugin/device which is not compatible with the cc ps.  It's not likely, but you can wait and if you have no use for cs5 in a month or two, disable if (help > disable) and then uninstall it.

and to be sure, you must secure your cs5 serial number in case you cancel cc a day and you want to reinstall your program cs5.
