Uninstalling Norton to get microsoft security essentials
I would use microsoft security essentials, but currently norton on my new processor. The trial version is over so I am currently unprotected. I don't understand how to go to add/remove programs and uninstall. Last time, I uninstalled a program of security, he seemed to randomly take important files with it. Is there something specific I need to do to ensure that I won't screw up my cpu when I remove norton? I am running windows 7 on a new processor, do not know if you need to know that or not. Thank you.
Hello
You can do a Restore Point:

Use the Norton removal tool before you install MSE - download MSE, but do not install it
until after Norton is deleted, and you've restarted.
Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click on - RUN AS ADMIN-
Reboot once completed

Here's what I use and recommend:
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw
at home. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx also proved very reliable and
compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.
Avast Home free - stop any shields isn't necessary except leave Standard, Web and network
running.
Prevx - Home - free
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)
Protected IE - mode
IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)
I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the LEFT of the + at the bottom right)
Internet Explorer)
Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x
Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not (except files, Web, network, & behavior)
-double click the Orange in the Notification area - real-time shields - click on the shield that you want
stop-STOP. Stop the Orange icon to display an indicator of error - click on the Orange icon-
Right click - settings - high status bar - uncheck shields you disabled - click OK
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web, and
Operation of the network. (Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - cancel)
the ones you don't use).
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4
Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast
Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs.
It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see
How to remove.
http://www.prevx.com/ <-->-->
http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp <-->-->
PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp
Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and it would be
UPDATE of the unusual with Avast and Prevx operational except for an occasional low level (not much) cookie,
It and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note since I
started using this configuration.
I hope this helps.

How can I get Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus security?
After another year of Norton 360, I got the stupid games of Symantec, tired of the ot, uninstalled and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. I restarted my computer (Dell Dimension 8200 running Windows XP Pro 2002). After that, I ran services.msc impatiently as my program of service to show that my antivirus security worked and I had nothing to fear. Imgine my grief when my service center reported that my computer was always subject to viruses, worms, Trojan horses and other forms of malware. I thought, perhaps, I had reduced the activity of some vital download too quickly and, therefore, have prevented a good download. So I tried again, this time with a lot more patience... This time, I received a message that the program was already on my computer, asking if I wanted to replace it with the new download. Because the first time I acted in a hurry, I replied that I tried the second download try replacing the Lerna, this time with a lot more patience. There is no apparent change that showed the Security Center: no protection against the virus. How can I get Microsoft Security Essentials to act as my antivirus program and my Security Center to recognize it as such?
Hi David,
Glad to hear thiings are better. Do not forget to chek that MSE will automatically update the definitions that every 24-48 hours and regular tests are carried out. Also suggest that you go to settings > default Actions and change to quarantine all. don't forget to 'Save changes'. This is recommended to avoid problems such as potentially unwanted programs and the removal of the odd false positive.
You are definitely not alone in your skepticism about Norton and other paid for antimalware solutions.
Feel free to mark my initial response as response and/or useful.
Have a day without malware.
Kind regards
rhabdomantist

Original title: Microsoft 7 Pro problems
Hi Gordonaumick,
I apologize for the inconvenience. I appreciate if you could help me with more information.
1. What is the exact problem you face on Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)?
2. you receive an error message/code when using MSE?
3. what equipment you are unable to recognize on Windows 7?
Check that you have removed all other anti-malware real-time products that were already installed on your PC, including free products / trial that were installed when the PC was purchased (Norton, McAfee, TM, AVG, OneCare, Malware bytes (paid), etc.).
Note: If you use more than one antivirus or antispyware program at the same time, your PC may know a decrease in performance, become unstable, or restart unexpectedly. Before you install Microsoft Security Essentials, or if you want to solve problems with Microsoft Security Essentials, including the update of issues, you must first completely remove your PC Internet security programs.
You may have to uninstall/reinstall MSE. You should be able to remove MSE of the Control Panel. Uninstall problems see: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/uninstalling-mse/a63b8c4b-58ed-437e-8086-fa08d80725a4
Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. I have an ADVENT 7083 laptop Windows XP, there installed AVG Anti Virus (now expired). Do I need to uninstall AVG, before installing Microsoft Security Essentials?
Yes, it's a good idea to remove it if you don't plan to use at a later date... Also I suggest that you run the removal tool (Cleanup utility).

Computer problems since the installation of Microsoft Security Essentials
Since the installation of Microsoft Security Essentials, my computer will stay only in mode "sleep" for a minute or two and then turns back on. Also when I turned off the computer, Microsoft Security Essentials also stops, and I have to turn it back on when I start the computer. I had the two trend micro PC-cillan and Macafee security on this computer. But I uninstalled them before installing Microsoft Security Essentials. Also my computer is supposed to go to mode after half an hour of not used but he is staying on.

Should I Norton and Microsoft Security Essentials Virus protection?
I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials for a long time; but I keep getting popup windows telling me that they cannot provide protection against viruses because they did not have a virus to day something - or - others.
Two windows appear, one after the other, both have an error number. If I followed the instructions I always come back to a selection of Norton anti packages of virus which must be repaid, which I don't want. That's why I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, because I was sick of seeing these things and try to follow the instructions always with the same results.
Recently, I clicked on something in laptops and has seen a long list of time that requests had been made by Norton get me their updates - it was very very long.
I don't know what it is all about - what it means? I find it more than an irritation. These pop-ups will light up whenever I start the computer. Can I stop this? Do I have Norton and Microsoft - I realized that any previous protection system would be obsolete when I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.
Hello
NO.
You must have AN antivirus installed
If you have more then AN installed anti-virus you will most likely system issues because there is a conflict between norton and MSE

I'm on my computer Toshiba Satellite phone, Windows Vista Home Premium x 86 32-bit Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5250 1.80 gh 2 GB RAM with Service Pack 2, when using windows firewall regular and Malwarebytes anti-malware.
I am trying to get into Windows Defender to remove the stuff start menu because my computer is running way to slow down. About 6 months ago I had a problem with Microsoft Security Essentials by turning and stay Orange (at risk) and say it wasn't scanning, but it has been. At the time, I was not aware that Windows Defender would be put off. Now, it seems that it is disabled automatically. There no way to disable MSE, if I try to change my start up programs in Defender, or even when I am trying to download programs, I always end up having to uninstall MSE, download the program and then reinstall MSE. It takes a long time and really makes me want to go back to AVG or even a different program. Help and faq are unclear and seem to leave a lot of information on. I left on the 'default' settings, for when something is happening, but I'm not quite sure this is the correct setting.
I need instructions in plain language, and it's really hard to find. Since I left my computer unprotected for download or try to change things, I'm afraid that something got. I just went through a clean installation due a person with remote access in my system and I lost a lot of pictures, records, etc., I'm always worried about security now and don't know if I should stay with MSE or not. I used the care a before Scan and he had difficulty my registry keys, that having people tell me I shouldn't have let microsoft fix my computer. (this was before the clean install). It's just confused and contradictory and not enough information. Windows Defender has a 'stop', does MSE?
This is probably not the right area, but I specifically ensured that when I signed into hotmail the box 'Save password' was unchecked. I am registered on another forum, then signing in this one, he had my password registered and logged in me full? Same thing with contacts - my old msn contacts have a way for this 'hacker' enter my computer through MSN messenger, he gave her the permission above my permission admin, so I couldn't get out. Although I asked that the old account closed a bunch of time - I guess there is still there waiting for like a year? Now I have a new email in hotmail, the clean computer, and the dang thing starts my old top loading details is on his own... - Anyway, my main concern is can I pause or stop the MSE? Can I use the Scan a care after I had no protection? and is there a place explaining MSE in regular normal verbiage with more information then what is on the help and information and download page?
Thanks for your time,
Nanette

My brother-in-law gave me his laptop Dell Latitude D610 to work on. It was loaded with virus and almost completely non-functional. I installed an old windows XP Home Edition SP1 upgrade disk (I had to insert my plu too Windows 98 disc) on it because I had no original disks supplied with the computer. I am therefore perfectly legal with that. I installed it and I activated it until I went through updates. When I finished updates of service pack to download SP2 to the execution of the method to update to SP3. I tried to install Microsoft Security Essentials however it would not load and said I had to VALIDATE windows. I already got it activated prior to all other updates. How can I fix it? When I try to validate windows all I see is a white screen, so I can't go any further! So basically I have 2 problems I need to validate (the computer says that Windows is already activated when I click on the button "Activate Windows"). And I get the white screen when I try to validate... Please help I know it's legal software, just old.
