Uninstalling Windows Search 4.0... Desktop

When I went to uninstall windows search 4.0, it has a long list of updates which will also remove. Don't know what to do.

don't worry, if the updates are for research, then you will not need.

After uninstalling, you can go to microsoft update and do a quick scan to see if there are any updates necessary priority.

How to uninstall Windows Live Mesh Remote desktop.  I can't uninstall it & it continues to send an error message?

    Hello

    What is the error message?

If you have enabled Live Mesh Remote Desktop, you must be running Windows Vista as an administrator (a type of user account that allows full access to the computer,
including the ability to install programs and manage other user accounts.) to uninstall the Live Mesh software.

  • Windows Search

Today I deleted from my computer, Windows Search as the magnifying glass has arrived without notice a couple of weeks, when I've updated windows.  He has been looking for index automatically, and even when I put it on snooze, my computer ran much more slowly.  I rarely search for files on my computer, until you feel that it will not be a problem.  What do you think?

I would say keep uninstalled Windows Search and pay attention in the future MS updates when they are available and if you are offered once again, Windows Search decline and check the box that says do not provide to you once again.

Everything simply because MS offers an update, does not mean that you must install it.

Never accept an update hardware driver of MS - they do not know what are the best drivers for your system.

I would always accept security updates.

WS is a Devourer of CPU and memory known and will slow down your system.  If someone complains that their system is running slow, it's one of the questions, I learned from Daavee to ask (I have someone ask this question almost every day):

Do you have the Windows Desktop Search installed issue?

If one day you decide you want, or want to try it again you can just install it manually.

    That's what I think.

  • Windows Search 4.0 is not installed

I have an XP SP3 machine. I added the machine to a network, but since then, Windows Search does not work. The search indexer continues running & report errors. I tried to remove find and reinstall, but the reinstallation fails. Would really like to use Search 4.0 but just failed to get installed.

Try to uninstall Windows Search, then restart your PC and open Windows Update and update your Windows and install everything and try to download Windows Search from Windows Update.

  • Windows search Windows failed to start the service on the Local computer

OK, so it's a big, dirty and convoluted issue, so please bear with me. Any help is greatly appreciated! I start tearing my hair out on this one...

    I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
UAC is set to the lowest level 2

The other day I have problems with the search box in the start bar. It is more was to find excel or other office applications and also he wouldn't orders base as cmd or Notepad. Whenever I run a command it returns an error like this (not exact because I have the exact error message):

Windows cannot find ': search query = cmd'

I searched a little and tried to rebuild the index in Control Panel > Indexing Options. It does not work so I uninstalled Windows Search and reinstalled. What I found now, is that the indexing service would not start and if I tried manually start from services.msc I would get the following error:

Windows search Windows failed to start the service on the Local computer
Error 161: the specified path is not valid

The event log showed me this Application error:

    Cannot initialize the Gatherer service.

    Details:

The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or inaccessible. Free space on the drive or verify that you have permission write to the Temp folder. (HRESULT: 0 X 80070660) (0 x 80070660)

    Help!

    Thanks Samhrutha.
Your proposed solution of editing the registry is the only solution I found to this day and still work.
The only drawback that I want to emphasize is that this fix causes completely reset to its default settings of windows search.  Customizations to search what have been done by the user (e.g., windows search indexing user customizations options) will be lost.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and occasionally experienced the same error message ( windows cannot find ': search query = XXX ", where XXX corresponds to my search query) try to search through windows when start menu search box.

Only recently, however, discovered one other cause possible/fix to this problem.
Specifically, I discovered that the error of windows search resulting from the ADDITION of a NETWORK LOCATION on the local computer (for example, via the menu option "Add a network location" that appears when you click the file menu in a window of windows Explorer displays the contents of the local computer (corresponding to the "COMPUTER" icon). The CENTER of my computer SYNC settings have been defined to disable the synchronization of network or file 'offline' and I suspect that this setting is also part the cause of the error of research.

To resolve this problem, simply tell windows search not to include the 'network' location in the search index.  To do this, one needs to access the settings of the windows search INDEX LOCATIONS (via Indexing Options-> change), then uncheck the box next to the network location (which on my computer starts as follows: oneindex: / / {s-1-5-21...)

After unchecking this box, click on the OK button and then CLOSE the button to exit the Options of Index window.  After that the error message should hopefully not return.  If so, try restarting the computer and research to test again.

    Hope this helps!

    :)

  • What is the "correct" way to uninstall Windows 7?

Good evening community... what Microsoft (or anyone out there) consider means of correcting/official to uninstall Windows 7 from my desktop PC?

In the past, go all the way back to Windows 3.1 - Windows 98 - Windows ME - Windows XP - Windows Vista - and leading up to Windows 7, which is considered the 'official' Windows 7 Uninstall method (in my case Windows 7 Home Premium Retail Full Version)... I uninstalled Windows 7 by a variety of different methods, including 1) formatting the hard drive 2) a simple wiping of hard disk by using one of the many available software disks 3) or format the hard drive using the Windows disk.

There are probably other ways to uninstall Windows 7 that I mention mostly because I've never used but the 3 methods I mentioned in the previous paragraph.

    Thank you!!!

    Jimmy

There is no uninstall procedure itself, someone at - it 3 procedures you have listed will do. Personally I use the number of option 3.

    To format drive:

    1. Insert the DVD of Windows 7
    2. restart your computer
    3. When asked if you want to boot from your DVD player, do it.
    4. Select your language, click Next.
    5. click on "repair your computer".
    6. Select the operating system you want to repair.

    7. click on the command line

    8. at the command prompt, type: FORMAT C: /.

    Press enter on your keyboard

    Type y for Yes

    Press enter

Please wait while the drive is formatted.

Type exit to close the command prompt, and then click farm to shut down the computer.

    Hi Charles,
you have learned what I and many others have also learned the hard way... usually Reg editors damage much more than good. That said, I advise you to do a system restore to before you used it, or you may need to reinstall a victory.

  • delete "Desktop Search" and replace with the original Windows search utility

Under XP, (files and folders) Windows search has been replaced by "Desktop Search", which doesn't help.  How can I get the search utility original back?

You can't do that.  There may be 3rd party applications that will do something similar.

The search in XP has also been replaced in win 7 and win 8.

  • How default search instead of Windows Search Assistant?

Using XP. Windows Search has been installed with a recent update of the Windows desktop. I use other software for indexing as most of my documents files, binary no text or word. I disabled indexing, but "Windows Search" is always the default when I select "Search for" in a Windows Explorer window.

I can pick him 'click here to use the Search Assistant' at the bottom of the window, but I would have preferred that search companion is the DEFAULT search method.

What do I need to 'twist' to get the default return Research Assistant?

I found the answer here, and it has worked great for me.

I did have to uninstall Windows Desktop Search.  The change is taken into account, you may need to restart your PC.

The instructions at the above URL address are as follows:

1 log into Windows as a power user or administrator - you need elevated privileges to access the registry editor.

    2. open my computer or Windows Explorer. Expand your C: drive. Right click on the Program Files folder, and then select "search".

    3. Windows Desktop Search (WDS) opens. In the lower left of the screen you will see "this folder is not indexed. Click on the "...". Please use Search Companion"link to open the Wizard search. This step ensures that the necessary registry value is created.

    4. close the Windows Search Companion and WDS.

    5. click on the Windows Start, then "Run" button (or press WINDOWS + R keys on your keyboard.) In the open dialog box, type REGEDIT, and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.

    6. to change the setting for all users of the computer, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Desktop Search\DS.
To change the setting for the current user only account, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS.

    7. in the right pane, double-click the item "ShowStartSearchBand". In the value data field, change the '1' '0 '. Click OK, and then close the registry editor.

    8. now when you right click on a folder in Explorer and select 'Search', the Search Companion window opens instead of WDS.

    Hi Ken_978,

    ·         How long have you been faced with this problem?

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         The question is only limited to Office applications?

    ·         What exactly happens when you try to open an Office application? You receive an error message?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: I suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malware

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While running scan on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when scanning try to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.

Method 2: If this does not help then you can uninstall and reinstall Windows search 4.0 on the computer.

Follow the steps below to uninstall:

    a. click on Start

    b. click Control Panel

    c. select Add / Remove Program
