Unopenable after moving files

When I move the files TIFF image on a server (I work in a Museum of history) a machine remote, often impossible to open these reliable image files.  Photoshop displays the message, "could not complete your request because it isn't the right kind of document.".   Look in Windows Explorer reveals that he has no data for these images in the column "Dimensions".  An attempt to rename the folder in which sometimes generates an "access denied" message (this occurs when the file is not open anywhere else).  No other Viewer or editor will open the file.  This doesn't happen when you move TIFF files from a remote computer on the server.  It also does not occur when you copy and stick a file only when it is cut and pasted or dragged and dropped.  He always seems to be a computer on the network, however, which can open the apparently altered files.  Curiously, it is not the same machine from one day to the other.  Sometimes, I was able to open these files after restarting the machine whose files have been moved to the origin.  I have not seen this happen with other types of image files (for example, JPEG files).  Our network administrator has not yet been able to solve the mystery.  What happens here?

All what you describe sounds like a permissions problem access the file.  The default behavior is that moved files to another volume inherit the access permissions of the folder destination while the files moved within a volume to maintain their permissions.  Which copy (and not animated) files in the same volume, the copied file again will inherit the permissions of the folder to which it is moved to.  This is the default behavior.  It can be changed.  Everything is explained here:

"How permissions are handled when you copy and move files and folders.

Another way to approach this problem is to check the folder that the file in network-transferred to has the access permissions for other users of this computer (as well as the folder that you end by moving to).  For more information on this aspect, try this link:

I installed Fusion 2.0.4 and it works very well. I have created a virtual machine of my IBM T42 (80 GB HDD) and flies over the files. Works great for a week. Then I saw the video on how to do this and in the end, they suggest and then move the VM files (the 2 GB dismembered ones) in VMware created machine virtual file in the folder my documents (show the contents of the package and drag all the files - virtual disk - hard from 2 GB in it). . The server is alive but not ready yet, and you can try again later.

Thanks for the tips. I ran the cleaning disc as well as remove snapshots, but it only reduced the size of the file by about 1 to 2 GB. Much less than the 13 and 14 GB that was moved. Other ideas on where is hiding that extra GB of 11-12?

You did copy or move, and if copied then you can remove and empty the trash?  Did you use Disk Cleanup to do some house-keeping file and empty all but the last restore Point before you shrink the disc?  Another way to check that is placed on a Windows system is to look at the drive with WinDirStat.  For the side Mac, check out GrandPerspective.

  • Why I no longer storage capacity after moving the files of external volumes?

Disk utility reported that I had only 29.76 GB available; the 250 GB SSD was used as follows:

Apps 48Go; Photos of 32 GB; Audio 24GO; 18 GB movies; Other 99.72 GB; Available 29.76 GB

After moving to photos of 34.2 GB external volumes, films of 6,76 GB and files of documents 1 GB, disk utility has reported:

    Apps 48Go; Photos 9GB; Audio: 24 GB; Movies 11FR; Other 132,14; Available 29.76 GB

After moving ~ 42 GB of data to external volumes, HD of 'other' content is passed to 132,14 GB 99,72 GB.

Not after winning more space, I moved other files; Other rose the same amount and available showed I have now 39 GB

I don't understand why 'other ' space used increases as much as I thought I had released.

So, how can I increase the space available in this SSD?

  • . M2T "generic import error" after the files moved

That someone know something for winging a .m2t file that PrPro generated previously imported and edited very well, who has then squirrels after the file has been moved?  (details below)

    Thank you.

    -------------------------------------

Recently, I moved the source (including the sidecar files) for work files off my C:\ to a backup disk, in a desperate move to take off a suddenly frigid Premiere Pro and still (C:\ drive space was extremely low).  I thought I was OK to do it, since I had exported all my final video files and confirmed that they looked fine (amount).  However, some of them were .m2t files, which still had no audio its chronology.  Much scrounging to find out later, I decided to try to re - export these files from their source PrPro projects, this time without audio multiplexing.  I expected to just move the source files in their new location.  It worked for most of the files, but not the .m2t file.

Here are my patches attempts (failed):

    1. Use move function PrPro manually navigate to the file and select it.  (Fails.  File is not displayed in the location of the project and is still missing in the timeline.  "But PrPro generates no error to announce or explain the failure).
    2. Re-import the file in the current location.  (Fails.  I get "error importing generic," with zero further info.)
    3. Move the file (and the sidecar files) to the original location, then re - locate with PrPro.  (Fails, as 1.)
    4. Re-import a file in the location restored (after 3).  (Fails.  Same as (2).
    5. Copy and rename then file (and sidecar files) in restored location and then freshly import this file completely-news-to-PrPro.  (Fails.  Same as (2).

I have not yet tried the things:

    1. Deleted cache.  I have read horror stories here on edit work days lost to empty cache, then now that I only once the discs are printed and iso are archived.
    2. Convert a file using another program .m2t. Strictly speaking, I tried with (groan) Windows MovieMaker, but it will not display an image larger than 740 x 480 (Yes, settings allow larger, but only as Giants black residents.)  I maybe reinstall my prior NLE (Avid Pinnacle) - should work, but may take hours to reinstall.

    Solution:

I gave this fixation within PrPro and rather bought a type of video file converter.  I got Video Converter Ultimate of Wondershare, which was not too expensive and works well.  Now all my .m2t files are converted into file types PrPro like much better, and they import no problem in my project.

  • Disorganized iTunes Media after moving to NAS

    Hello

I have moved my iTunes for Synology NAS library and am maintaining the logical structure of the different media files.

On the NAS, I created volume 'Media' where I moved to the iTunes library and where I want all kinds of media to reside and to share with others (Synology, Plex) apps. This volume is now the default iTunes media folder.

I have relinked the library in ITunes without problem and can see everything as before, but when for example I am adding new content to music to iTunes (with 'Keep media' and 'Copy media in the iTunes folder') organized checked it lands directly in the 'media' instead of ' Media /Music"." Why and how can I solve this problem?

I want to keep the structure of file like this:

    Media (volume)

    -Music

    -Artist name

    -Album name

    -Movies

    -Name of film

    TV - series

    -Show Name

    -Books

    -Etc.

Is this possible? Is to select a volume than the main iTunes folder of media app messes things why?

It seems OK, I had to «Organize library...» "after moving and all the orphaned files have been moved to /Music they belong.

I think I like iTunes a little more now

  • Directory to restore deleted after moving and change of name

    Hello

I am very new to this please bare in mind. I deleted a directory to a network drive, after moving from directories and renamed. Durnig one of these actions, I deleted a.
I contacted system administrator to retrieve images of backup but does not seem to work...
Is it possible that it can not be restored? I've been to move this directory and change names several times in the last days before deleting...
All the answers? Recover my data?
    Thank you

Objects deleted on network drives are forever lost to the operating system, you will need to use data recovery software.  You must not use the network drive until you retrieve your files, or else you can overwrite the files while you are using the disk and make recovery impossible.

  • Moving files between disks problem cases

I followed the instructions to move my Documents to another hard drive. The source was an internal SSD flash drive, the other disc was a typical internal hard drive. I use Windows 7 Professional.

I do not give the new location a file but simply transferred on the disc, which had other files it contains.

After moving Outlook stopped working because he could not find the necessary files.

He wouldn't let me reverse the process until (hopefully), I could remember what was already on my 2nd drive before transfer and delete these files. He then I would reverse the Outlook process so now OK.

If I follow the correct procedure, why Outlook did stop working and what other damage could cause such a transfer?

Because although the wording of the utility indicates moving the "My Documents" folder move he actually just the contents of the folder to the new location.

Assuming that the dialog shows the C:\Users\votre_nom_utilisateur\My Documents path you have two options.

On the destination drive, create the path where you want the files, use the Browse button to select the new path and then move

Or (and much simpler) select the current path, remove ONLY the part 'C' and replace it with "D" (if it's the new drive letter) so it reads D:\Users\votre_nom_utilisateur\My Documents and select move. Now, he must create the new path, move the files and folders and update the pointers.

Make sure that Outlook is not running when you make the change.

  • Keep the original creation date when copying or moving files (Windows XP/7, Windows Server 2003/2008)

I know that the default behavior of (any version) Windows when copying or moving files, is that Windows makes everything first creates a new folder, copy the content, and when you move files, deletes the source after successful copy folder. Unlike Mac OS, where mechanisms of copy and move assume that when you copy a folder, the properties of the copied folder should have the same properties as the source folder, so to keep the original date of creation!

Is it possible to change this behavior in Windows? I know that Robocopy in Windows Server 2008 has an option to keep the dates of creation of record, but I would like to know if you can change Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 behave similarly.

It is very annoying that when you restore or copy a folder, the new folder has the date of the creation of the current date instead of the date of original creation.  People tend to look for old records that exist is no longer when you copied or moved the files.

    Hey E Kyung,

There is no way to do this in windows. The design of Windows, this is the creation date refers to the file, while the date of the amendment relates to the content. If the creation date is really important to you, you can set after the copy with a utility.

The easiest is to right-click on the file and drag it to the destination folder. you will be asked to copy or move. If you move, the creation date will not change.

Yes, Robocopy is available in Windows 7.

    Hi Jason,

You will receive a file repaired of Marc. There was a corruption in one of the menus of the site (probably from a previous version of Muse). The new version has been correctly claiming corruption, so no further damage could be done. The repaired file should work just fine.

  • Macintosh HD disappeared from records while moving files on external hard drive

Just as the title says.  I moved files in LR this morning of an external HD (created the new folder, drag / drop individual files to new folder HD) and after adding a large folder of photos (about 1/6 of my size of the entire catalog), the task is completed and my main Macintosh HD folder disappeared.  The files are still on display in large "all photographs" under catalog at the top and the files are still on my computer.

Someone knows how to get Macintosh HD to reappear under folders, so I can move the remaining files of the photo the external HD?  I would rather not move them outside of Lightroom.

    Thank you!

I've seen two similar situations like this in the last week or two, someone solved the problem simply by rebooting the computer.
