Unusual partition distributed over Satellite L

Hello

My wifes laptop seems to have an unusual partition configuration which means that we are 14% remaining on one, while we have 90% + on the other hand

Vista (c :)) a free 74.3 GB 14.1 GB, data (E :) 67.9 free 73.2 GB, both are NTFS-formatted drives.)
I ran discmgr and found a small EISA partition which according to me is the recovery area (although the data partition (E :) contains the reference for the recovery options?)

Can anyone tell how I balance upward partitions in order to better reflect the amount of storage available for personal recovery and data/programs

I don't want to get into the reformatting and such it is possible to do by moving the storage of programs file?
Or something along those lines, or can split the partition be changed without risk of loss of data or formatting (do not have a backup at the time)

Thank you

Damien

Hello

Changing the size of the partitions can affect HARD drive recovery.
This means that when the scores were changed, you would not be able to use HARD drive recovery.

But if you want to change the sizes of the partitions, you can use 3rd party software such as Partition Magic or Gparted.

  • Restore the partition from the Satellite Pro A200 recovery

    Hello

I accidentally deleted the 5 GB recovery partition on my Satellite Pro A200. I have since recovered (and the data inside) and tried to create my discs of recovery using the "Recovery Disc Creator', but it is to say that it cannot find the recovery partition :(

I tried fishing by the ini files for recovery disc creator find where he seeks the score, but could not find anything...

One thing I noticed is that now it is recovered, it appears as a NTFS fs (I think that before it was an unknown FS type?) and volume label "HDDRECOVERY".

Any ideas on how I can either:

    (a) wrong recovery tool by using the recovery partition
    (b) to make the score look exactly as it did before I deleted it, so I can use the tool as it is.

Would really appreciate any help - want to make these recovery disc for my vista ultimate before I go around whacking backtrack top :) and dicking

    Hello

    > accidentally deleted the recovery partition of 5 GB on my Satellite Pro A200. Since I got (and the data inside)
I wonder how you restored the deleted partition. Perhaps the recovery settings partition are not the same that before and, therefore, the "Recovery Disc Creator' doesn t work properly.

Unfortunately, I think you will not be able to fool the recovery tool, if the recovery partition cannot be found.
You can rename only the partition NTFS FS. This can be done in the disk management console.
But I don t think this will solve this problem.

It seems that you have to reinstall the whole OS using the CD of restoration of Toshiba or the original CD of Microsoft Vista

  • Re: Extra partition on the Satellite A660

Today, I bought my Satellite A660. Because it was a showroom model, the seller perform a (very long) factory settings reset.

On this laptop, I see only a single disk partition (volume) visible: C-560 GB volume.

In disk management, there are altogether 4 partitions:
    -recovery partition: 1.46 GB
-primary partition: 25,05 Go, which I can remove only, no other function is possible
-primary partition: 9,61 Go, which I can remove only, no other function is possible
-primariy partition, system startup,...: 560 GB = C-volume

I guess the 2 primary partitions (25.05 and 9.61 GB) are hidden, partitions used to reset to the factory settings. I know that it is better to leave them alone; You never know. On the other hand, why would there be two?

I can release about 280 GB for a new partition.

When I try to create a volume D, the system informs me that this operation requires dynamic disks and the following States that there is insufficient disk space to perform this action.
When I navigate around on some internet for one, I learn that the standard Windows can support up to 4 partitions.

If that were the case, partitions to delete for me to create this second volume?
If there is another reason why I can't create my second volume (D), can someone explain to me what is the problem and how can I solve this problem?

    Kind regards

At first, I have to say that everything is fine there and if you have good operating system at first, please create restore using preinstalled Toshiba Recovery media creator DVD. To create recovery discs use DVD-R virgins only.

So, after doing this, you can do experiments with your new Satellite phone and optimize the partitions. If something goes wrong, you can use the created recovery DVD and reinstall the OS.
For this application use out of the box.

You know I have Satellite A660 and have tested all recovery options to see how this works exactly and what is happening with each available recovery option. All this is not so bad, but maybe a little complicated.

In front of me I have original preinstalled A660 and open disk management and the situation is a little different as on your laptop.
    Follow the partitions appear:
    # 1.46 GB (recovery partition) Please note this score has nothing to do with the Toshiba recovery procedure
GB partition # 453,89 it's partition C shown in Windows Explorer
GB hidden # 10.46 on this partition partition is saved Toshiba recovery image so if you want to use the disk HARD recovery option do not delete it.

So I really don t know why you have 4 of them.
    I recommend you to follow:
    # create recovery DVDs
    # install new OS using the HDD recovery procedure (F8 at startup > fix my computer) and selected the option out of the box.

During the installation of recovery is complete, you will have the same State of partitions of HARD drive than I. You can enter the disk management shrink volume C (for example 200 GB less than before) and on this unallocated (200 GB) partition to create the new partition.

If you have any other questions let me know.

  • Can not resize the partition on the Satellite A100-998

    Hello
I am owner of toshiba satellite A100-998 with 200 GB hard drive. By default there is only 1 partition on the HARD drive when I try to resize this partition and create another 8 partition magic shows me error that it cannot write to the boot sector and it fails. I didn't install any software on this computer and it has the latest version of the bios.

Ranish partition Manager displays the same error.
I don't know what the problem is because I've done similar operations on multiple computers with all the problems.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

    Hello

I also use the magic of 8 Partitions for creating and management of simple partitions on the HARD disk.
But I wonder about the size of your HARD drive. As I know the Partitions Magic 8 does not support 200 GB HARD drive. I didn t to test but the partitions on the manufacturing site manual says it does not support.

However, sometimes, I had similar problems with my 80 GB HARD drive. The simple solution was to defragment single partitions.

I put t know if it will help you because of you HARD drive size, but you can try it.

  • How to change the partitions on the Satellite P870-026

    Hello

does anyone know how to partition the HARD drive on a P870 Satellite with Windows 8 (if the material of the BONE).
I used the options in disk management. The problem is that I can't shrink less than about 450 GB lecteurC. It is a new laptop and features a 1 TB HDD and 50 GB used only at present.

I defragmented the HARD drive, but it made no difference.
    Thank you

I presume you are aware that a "hidden file" is the reason why you can't resize.

This [http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html] is supposed to do the job. Software free EASEUS ([http://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/]) can do. (I think you need to very careful to install the software. I believe that unless you read each screen and check / uncheck boxes carefully it will have changed your homescreen internet, search engine and installed more software).

    BUT
Any root you choose, make sure you have prepared Windows etc. recovery disks so that you can restore your pc to a shipped State. Do some searching on Google on things like "install the bigger hard drive" "change the size of the partition during the installation of windows" "create a cd bootable/memory stick ' and the popular"migrates to ssd drive"and you will pick up a lot of advice. I don't know if the Toshiba recovery disks repartition a drive to match the original configuration.

  • Does not drive recovery partition creator & data - Satellite L300

My niece asked me to re - install his Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop computer, because windows setup is a little buggy. She never had a recovery disc. Using Recovery Disk Creator Toshiba I tried to create a recovery disk.

However, the program would not start. Check the directory of the program, it seems that the program is not just there. Later, I checked the laptop data partition.

There was a card with HARD drive recovery. However, when using Windows Advanced Boot (F8 before Windows starts) there was no choice to fix the laptop. They have only choices were the standard options of windows (except the normal startup mode, etc.).

In short, it seems impossible to re - install the laptop with the current information at your fingertips.
What would be the next course of action? Is it possible to order a Toshiba restore CD?

Another niece has the same specifications, it would be possible to use this notebook to create a recovery disk?

I'm going to enjoy and look forward to your reactions.

    Hello

It seems that something has changed on the HARD drive
However, the fact is you ve no disk recovery and you can not use HARD drive recovery option.

This means that you must order a new Toshiba recovery disc.

    You can do so here:

PS: a Tip If you want to use an option of searching this forum, you will find the right answer too ;)

  • How to create a partition on a Satellite A200 - 14 d?

    Hello

I have a problem with my scores as I'd first on the laptop 2 apparent partitions on the HARD disk, labeled C:\Vista
(Vista Home Premium) and E:\Data (57GB and respective 55GO). I decided to format vista because I had some problems with the FN key. After using the product recovery CD to install fresh windows that I enjoyed, I have only one partition at a total of about 115 GB. I wanted to have at least two partitions, so I used once again the CD to reinstall windows and try to find out how I can make a partition during the installation. After I chose the language there was a window saying that I can adjust my disk space, so I did, distribution of 40 GB on the partition where windows should be installed, assuming that the rest of the HARD drive label is distributed to a second partition.

After that I reinstalled and did all the updates, I had a big surprise to see that I have 1 single partition with 39 GB. Now, I used Device Manager to see what the problem is. I went to the properties/volume of HARD drive section and clicked on fill. Here, it shows the 40 GB windows partition and unallocated space of aprox 72GO. My main problem is I have to have this space partitionated and since the recovery disk does not give me this option is there any other way vista can make a partition with the remaining space? I look forward for some advice please.

    Thank you

    Hello

Don t worry dude it is all right. It seems that the partition was created but not activated.
After the Windows Vista installation please go to managing disks.
You will find the first partition C and maybe a second or only one free space.

If you want you can shrink the C partition first. After this process, you can right-click on the free space and create a second partition or add free space to the second partion that is already created.

    Good luck and best regards

  • To access large partitioned tables over a database link - traps?

    Hello

We are in the middle of a business acquisition, and I have a question on the use of links to database access efficiently to large tables. There are two distinct geographical database instances, both on Oracle 10.2.0.5 sitting on Linux boxes.

The main forum (PSHR) contains a PeopleSoft HR system and pays and is sitting in our data center.

The secondary instance (HGPAY) runs a payroll application home grown and is in a different datacenter to PSHR.

The requirement is to allow PeopleSoft (PSHR) to display data of payroll (one employee at a time) targeted to the secondary instance.

    For example in HGPAY

    CREATE TABLE MY_PAY_DATA AS
    SELECT TO_CHAR (A.RN, ' 00000000') 'EMP' - it is a figure 8 leading 0 unique identifier
'20110' | TO_CHAR (B.RN) "PAY_PRD" - it is a format of exercise more than fifteen days in the year (01-27)
C.SOME_KEY - it is the element of remuneration being considered - effectively randomly
    , 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' "FILLER1.
    , 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' "FILLER2".
    , 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' "FILLER3".
FROM (SELECT ROWNUM 'RN' FROM DUAL CONNECT BY LEVEL < = 300) has
, (SELECT ROWNUM 'RN' FROM DUAL CONNECT BY LEVEL < = 3) B
(SELECT TRUNC (ABS (DBMS_RANDOM. (Random())) 'SOME_KEY' FROM DUAL CONNECT BY LEVEL < = 300) C
    ORDER OF PAY_PRD, EMP

HGPAY. MY_PAY_DATA is the range partitioned on EMP (approximately 300 employees by partition) and the list below partitioned on PAY_PRD (3 pay periods a secondary partition). I limited the above create statement to represent a sub-partition of data.
Every employee generates an average of 300 lines in this table each pay period. The table has about 180 million lines and all fifteen days more.

    In PSHR

    CREATE VIEW PS_HG_PAY_DATA (MEP, PAY_PRD SOME_KEY FILLER1, FILLER2, FILLER3)
    AS SELECT EMP, PAY_PRD SOME_KEY FILLER1, FILLER2, MY_PAY_DATA@HGPAY FILLER3

PeopleSoft would then generate SQL along the lines of

    SELECT * FROM PS_HG_PAY_DATA WHERE EMP = '00002561' AND PAY_PRD = '201025'

The link between data centers where PSHR and HGPAY sit isn't the best in the world, but I expect dozens of hits per day rather than thousands, so I think that the link must have sufficient bandwidth to meet the requirements.

I tried a quick test on two instances of size production test and it works because it presents the data, when I look at the plan of the explain command that I can see that the remote database is only presenting the relevant secondary partition on PSHR rather than the entire table. Until I get in the back with a "job well done" - y at - it a witch hunt that I am absent using dblink to access the partitioned tables of big?

Yes, it's just. A lot of it depends on exactly what happens in different "oops" scenarios - you are, for example, just burn some CPU extra until someone comes to the DBA and says "my query is slow" or saturating the network has an impact on critical applications or long random queries prevent some maintenance operations of partition.

In my mind, the simplest possible solution (assuming you are using a username that is fixed in the database link) would be to create a profile on HGPAY for user defined for the link of database that set a value LOGICAL_READS_PER_CALL which was large enough to handle any request '' reasonable '' and low enough to quickly kill any session that has tried to do something 'stupid '. Obviously, you have to define 'stupid' in your particular environment where the scope of a 'simple reconciliation report' is not defined. If there is no political problem and you can adjust the values of profile to the wire when you encounter new reports that slowly increase what is considered '' reasonable '' is probably the most straightforward approach. If you have to put in a change request to change the parameter which must be reviewed by the Control Board change at its next quarterly meeting with the outsourced DBA seller, on the other hand, you could turn a report by 30 minutes in 30 hours over 30 days. However, in an ideal world, this is where I would start.

Becomes more complex, you can use the resource manager to kill applications running too long on the wall clock. Since the network will almost certainly the bottleneck, it is probably unlikely that the limitation of the CPU will do much good - probably you can saturate the network with a very small amount of CPU. Limitation in my mind of the network is an additional step in complexity according to the specifics of your situation and what you are competing with.

  • Recovery partition, lost the Satellite C870D

You will need to run the recovery procedure but lost the partition on the hard drive. Given that the product key is stored in the BIOS/UEFI, I wonder if I can use the iso provided by Microsoft 8.1 + drivers posted on the Toshiba site.
Is this possible or should I buy the Toshiba recovery disks?
The operating system mentioned that there is Win 8 64-bit RTM

Yes you can use the iso file and drivers available on the Toshiba download page, but you can't use the product key for activation. As far as I know this key belongs to the original recovery image that you got with your machine.

  • Accidentally deleted partition recovery on Satellite C855

While trying to recover my laptop that I seem to have done the opposite and remove disk hard whole, including the recovery partition hidden it called, I used the Toshiba maintenance tool thinking the removal was simply a process of formatting and windows would then recover in the process.

I have no recovery media as described in the manual that I had to be in the recovery partition, or so I thought. I stopped the process around 3 h at 50% in the hope to go back and select another option

I can try at this point?

I'm afraid that you cannot do much, especially if the recovery procedure was interrupted m.
Now you need the recovery for recovery image installation disk. Bad thing is that you don't create a.

I recommend ordering again and you can do it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • How to extend the partition C on Satellite L450 - 17K

    Hello

I'm working on how I can change the size of the partition on my hard drive my C drive is nearly full, and D is a pain to keep anything on that most of what I have links to my Ipad that does not detect it when its on drive D!

Is there anyway to delete the partition or change the size of it without losing my data or having to restart my system?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

It is possible to change the size of the partitions in the management of the disks in win 7.

But you will not be able to shrink the partition D and add this free space on the C partition using the Windows option because the free space would be created after the D partition.
To move the free space between D and C partition a 3rd party software is necessary.

I recommend the use of a tool called * GParted.*

It s freeware and you can use it to manage your partitions on the HARD disk.

  • How to create partition in 105 satellite via the restore CD?

I want to create 2 partitions on my hard drive but I have no idea how do. I have 80 GB hard drive. I have the recovery CD and I would like to ask if anyone knows that it is possible to do by this recovery cd.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi guys

The fashion expert and above would be parts of the HARD drive.
If you have 80 GB of HARD drive and you type a new size, for example 50GB so the other 30 GB remains free.

    Very important:
After you use the expert mode, the second 30 GB partition is invisible!
To activate the second partition you have enter in the Administrative Tools Control Panel. There, select computer management and select disk management.
Here, you can recognize the second partition and activate it.

Of course. I recommend also using the Partitions Magic 8. in my opinion one of the best tools of partitions.

I recently bought a Toshiba U400 with a 200 GB hard drive. The hard disk is partitioned with Vista 94.4 gig (C) and gig (D) of data 90.3, I see that only about 3 gig is used on the data partition and want to resize it to about 20 gig and expand the Vista partion.
