  It is a recent phenomenon.  Outlook Express will not let me delete unwanted emails or remove things in the sent folder.

  You have the corruption of files dbx in more than one place.
   
  Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox (if you can) and move messages you want to record off the deleted items and sent in local folders, items create you. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.
   
  Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.
   
  In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.
   
  With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.
   
  Compact all folders as described below.

  Some of my emails sent from my gmail account are received as if they were my mother's aol account. If the person responds without changing the email for my account, then the answer is my mother.   If you use OE, then go to tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties and verify that the parameters it for e-mail accounts.  If you don't use OE, then you need to indicate which program you use to access your e-mail.  If its through a webbrowser and gmail.com then you must ask to gmail.

  You've obviously got service pack installation problem (which one, in passing, SP1 or SP2?).

  I'm not qualified to answer why your computer crashed the last time that you have installed the service pack.

  When I look in the mailbox for spam, I have hundreds of old spam came to my Inbox. So, I have to go through all those emails and delete them. So I have a few rules to configure to have emails going to spam. The rules work OK. The problem is that many of these emails sometimes get moved above.   It is possible that gmail is down your IP address that sends spam.
  Try changing your IP address to test.
