  If the SFC was not able to repair files then the best thing to do is to reinstall Windows.  You can try running a disk error check, if it fixes all of the problems, and then rerun the SFC and then install and run the System Update tool.  If there is still a problem with the SFC nto be able to complete then you should do a reinstall.

  Thank you for your response. When I tried to install the updates from 12 January 2016 on my Windows 7 computer, I met a problem at the stage where I have to shut down the computer to complete the process.
