  Windows Defender is an anti-spyware application, not an antivirus application. You must both be installed.

  I now doscovered that my computer has been infected by a "rootkit."

  After running 'One care Safety Scanner' once again he has found an infection called "Win32/Alureon.H.

  It was impossible to remove this infection, and I discovered a small specialized program to do this.

  Removing this infection which enabled my Windows Update program work.

  With regard to 7200LE, to create shortcuts to items in the control panel (those that allow shortcuts - not all are available and very few subdirectories have this option), right-click on the Panel element and click on create a shortcut and move it to the desktop (or) - if it doesn't automatically go.   If this option is not shown for the item you want a shortcut could not be created unless you know the path and the name of the element - and then you can right-click on the desktop and click on create a shortcut and make the shortcut from scratch, knowing the target location.  If the parameters are in a program, then right click on the executable file of the program and click send to and then click on shortcut (Desktop).
