Update ESXi Build 474610

Hello

I have 2 host VMware ESXi 5.0. When I search for updates with the Update Manager, there is no updates to install. As far as I know, I never updated the two hosts. 1 the full updates VMware ESXi 5.0 is available in the Patch repository, but does not apply. I think that this is due to the image of HP (Build 474610), that I used.

What is the best way to update and install the updates for ESXi?

Thank you.

Here is the link to HP talks about several options on how to update custom images of HP ESXi. http://h20000.www2.HP.com/BC/docs/support/SupportManual/c03285134/c03285134.PDF

    Hi guys

check the SRM 5.0.1 software compatibility table (I have install this version because I work with SVC 6.3.0.x and the only compatible is 5.0.1 from any SRA for 5.1)

Well said table vCenter 5.0 U1 is compatible with SRM 5.0.1.

Well my client has ESXi 5.0 U1 Patch 5 build 702118

so do you think it will be any problem with this ESXi 5.0. 5 way U1 version?

or it does not matter the patch that is install just the major version?

same question goes for said Table vCenter vCenter 5.0 Update 1 (build 623373) is compatible. Can I upgrade to 5.0 U1b (623373)?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

1 patch does not matter, only the main version / update.

2 vCenter 5.0.1b has the same compatibility as vCenter 5.0.1.

After signing, choose manage products, then in the line that corresponds to the product that you're gong to update, you should find an icon "+" under the heading of press.  A click on it.

I don't remember having a problem, this the first time, so I suspect it's pretty much follow your nose after that.

    Thx for the help

    Welcome to the community,

I'm not aware of a difference of correction/update ESXi on a USB device on a HARD drive. You can eiterh using a CD Update (for example, 1 day) or the vCLI as explained in the http://communities.vmware.com/people/vmroyale/blog/2011/09/15/updating-esxi-5--single-use-esxcli-how-to

  • ESX 4.1 Build 260247 to 4.1 Update 1 Build 348481

What is the upgrade path?  I was able to update our server ESX 4.0 but due at the time of the new version, I had just installed 4.1 build 260247 on our new box of ESX.  Then update, we're out.  I used the Update Manager to upgrade the 4.0 server to the latest version (4.1 update 1 / 348481 to build using the file "upgrade-from-esx4.0-to-4.1-update01-348481.zip" via the Update Manager.)  Worked like a charm.  Now, oddly enough it doesn't seem to be a clear path to upgrade to 4.1 260247 4.1 Update 1 / build 348481.  I would have assumed it would be an easy task using the Update Manager.  What Miss me.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

There is no need to manually download packages of fixes. After you install and configure the Update Manager, it will show you the fixes available in the repository. All you need to do is create a baseline with updated patches 1 and attach it to objects you want. Update Manager will automatically download patches. If not already fact, take a look at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_vum_41_admin_guide.pdf for more details

  • Did update ESXi 4.1 host via PowerCLI see option3

    Hello

I have a test environment before going to Production Server two ESXi410 installed (1 ESXi and ESXi-2)

Option1: ESXi-1, I've got vCenter and Update Manager. According to the documentation, I tried to use update manager add-in for vcenter. That went well to update host ESXi-2 with ESXi410 - 201011001.zip.

No I haven't been in trouble for the installation of the update on the ESXi-1 which has the Update Manager. As I close the virtual machine and put the ESXi-1 in Maintenance mode.

Option2: allowing the Support of Local and Remote Tech support (SSH) technology. In this way, I copied the file to update ESXi-1 data source using PuTTY. But esxupdate command does not find the file in the path (/ vmfs/volumes/datastore1/filename.zip). Then I copied to/var/tmp/cache and use the command esxupdate - bundle = filename.zip update. It also worked well.

But the thing I've read in your documentation to use Install-VMHostPatch did not help me.

    Option 3: of vSphere PowerCLI. > Install-VMHostPatch - VMHost /var/tmp/cache/ESXi410-201011001.zip IP - HostPath-server IP - confirm

gave me an error 5 No. OSError file or directory.

Yet once, I tried to change the path to the data store:

    PowerCLI > Install-VMHostPatch - VMHost IP HostPath - /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ESXi410-201011001.zip

Please find attached the error in the image file.

I want to use the PowerCLI update of the host and the VM. VMware has no documentation on this.

    Help, please.

    Mohammed Ali Rizwan

    Hello

Install-VMHostPatch will work for you only if you want to update the ESX host, it will not help for virtual machines. It is the snap another powershell called VUM PowerCLI that you can download from here http://vmware.com/go/powercliupdate. If you want to use that snap-in you should have installed VUM server.

Now on your current number. The answer that Luc wrote should work for you. In this example, there is a step that downloads patch files manually. The reason for this is the small size partitions on ESXi and usually there is no enough space to download large patch in the temporary folder of ESXi.

In fact, you can benefit from this approach - if all your ESXi boxes are connected to the shared storage, you can download the patches on this storage once and then upgrade one by one.

    Kind regards

    Hello

If I understand correctly that you upgraded to 5.0 Update 1 and it still shows the version number '1065491 '. However, the update version number 1 is 1065491. It has been upgraded to update 1.

  • How can I update ESXi 5.0.0 Build 469512 with the latest patches

You can download the update - from - esxi5.0 - 5.0_update01 patch in the download link for the Patch I posted above.

  • Update ESXi 4.1 Build 260247 to ESXi 4.1 Update 3

    Hello

I want to update a stand-alone host to ESXi 4.1 Update 3. I don't have vCenter or VUM in the environment (yet). I downloaded the bundle "update - from - esxi4.1 - 4.1_update03.zip" and have the vSphere CLI installed on my workstation.

I use vihostupdate.pl to check the server and the applicability of the patch before I go and install and he seems to think there is nothing there to install.

From what I can tell, this is a cumulative update and I have not read anywhere that I need to install the update 1 or 2 update as a prerequisite, so why are they not those detected?

Here is the output from the various controls:

  • Update - old Build number of the host

    Hello

I tried to update two new hosts esxi (embedded) to the required version (381591), they are currently on version 348481. I used vSphere vcli on one and upgraded using vihostupdate.pl and on the other hand I tried to move the patch to a local depot and using esxupdate. The two seem to install properly and reported that the installation was a success and to restart, however, after rebooting the hosts, they have the old 348481 build number.

I tried to reinstall, but told me that the patch is already installed. Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Ciaran

Why do you have patches of ESX applied if you use ESX (i)?

    Try to remove:

    UG-201101223- ESX410- 2011 - 08 - 05 T 12: 23:22 3w-9xxx: driver scsi for VMware ESX
    UG-201101224- ESX410- 2011 - 08 - 05 T 12: 23:22 vxge: driver for VMware ESX

reboot a server and check the construction.
