Update KB974417 installed... but continues to try to install it again
I am running xp professional version 2002 Sp3
This update installed OK on 16/05/2010, it is on my list to add/remove programs. Ever since then automatic update has always tried to install it again. In the historic section of update on the microsoft Update site, it has installed successfully 25 times so far. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall it a few weeks ago, but nothing helped.
It is always telling me to install today even as I type this. What can I do to resolve this issue, ignoring messages from auto update makes me nervous.
jv13,
See the list of installed updates and see if the updates are showing as it is installed or not.
If they are installed, then check this out:

If they fail to install and then start with this one:

At the same time I have tried to uninstall silverlight on my computer but now continue to try to re - install and can't... and I get the updates to install on windowns and then still get the above error for silverlight (for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2814124) security update
Download size: 6.6 MB
Update type: Important
This update of security for Silverlight includes the fixes described in KB 2814124. This update is compatible with web applications created by using earlier versions of Silverlight.
Nothing seems to help. What can I do?
E-mail address is removed from the privacy *.
Gary,
Try cleaning the files in silverlight using the Microsoft fixit given in http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rpomeroy/archive/2008/06/10/how-to-manually-clean-up-a-bad-silverlight-installation.aspx
Once the uninstall is complete, try to reinstall the latest version of Silverlight and then check if you are able to install the update via Windows Update.
If this is not the case, try to install the update manually.

Office Live add-in 1.5 update not necessary, but continually trying to update
I have problems with the sequence of Microsoft Office Live Add-in 1.5 update.
I use a 64 bit version of Windows 7. I already had the updated Microsoft Windows service to start (to delay) at startup. I changed it to start immediately at startup now.
I checked to see that the program Microsoft Office Live is in the list programs and features. I checked in MS Word 2007 (I have Office Enterprise 2007) and save to Office Live and open from Office Live are both present in the menu "file". These data suggest that the program works correctly.
My problem is the following: install the Windows Update detects the Microsoft Office Live Add-in 1.5 is an "important" update I accept the terms of the license, and when the update will download and installation and the Manager gives me a Green Shield saying 'updates have been installed correctly. Under this message, the details of the particular update say '' not necessary ''. A few seconds later, the Windows Update Manager detects that an update is needed and is going through exactly the same process. I can do this 20 times in a row and he will do exactly the same thing.
I would like to install the new update, or find the source of the problem that leads this snap to update, but leads to an empty sequence. What is a registry problem? Y at - it a bug related to this Add-in particular?
Could be a viral problem? I ran a OneCare security sweep that brought some questions of registry, but no virus problems, but eventually these problems solved and a 2nd scan after reboot gave no error.
I ran Malware Bytes, Microsoft Security Essentials and an AVG scan (after you have uninstalled the MOUSE of the computer... I don't keep these 2 on the computer at the same time in the event of a conflict would be.) Each of these tests came back negative.
I run the sequence of update via a wireless connection is firewalled by a customer of Cisco NAC, which requires the MSE will be installed on the computer. I take part the powers appropriate to the connection and can surf the net, download updates to 3rd party software and install other updates to Windows, such as the definitions of MSE updates.
Please thank you in advance for your help and advice.
Microsoft Office Live Add-in 1.5 is part of Windows Live Essentials.

Hello
Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.
It will also tell you here what Service Packs, if any, are already installed.
Then, choose the download of 'bit' OK to use to install Service Packs, first of all the installation of SP1.
Vista SP1 32-bit (x 86): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30
Vista SP1 64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21299

Firefox continues to try to update each time I open the browser, and it then puts a message saying update failed. It does this on both of my computers. We already have the latest version, the other does not. How can I stop Firefox to do this?
If there are problems with the implementation at day then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to remove all remaining files.
Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current version of Firefox, if possible.
- Do NOT remove the data of a personal nature when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data, because all profile files will be deleted.
Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- It is important to remove the Firefox program folder to delete all the files and make sure that there is no problem with the files that were the remains after uninstallation.
Your bookmarks and other profile data stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a relocation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you uninstall Firefox.
