Uninstall an update - cannot install it again

I use Windows 7 Professional X 64. I uninstalled an update (KB976264). Now, I am not able to install it again:

-Windows Update does not list it a update available

&

-I can't install it after you download it manually (he asks that it can not be installed on my pc, although I used the x 64 version)

Windows Update does not list it a update available

Then, you have no need to (re) install. ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

Windows Update cannot install KB2656353 on my Windows XP Professional SP 3 machine.  I tried to update windows install to 4.5 & manually install the update, but the installation stops when someone asks me for the Microsoft .net Framework 1 (disc 1).  How to solve this problem?  Thank you.

    Hello

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         What is the full error message?

    Follow the steps.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable the antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network at the time the anti-virus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot state to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

    kclady36,
Given that the SFC found corrupt files and was not able to fix them, which leans toward a possible broader problem at hand.  You can follow the directions at the bottom of the article for System File Checker to replace corrupted files.

Or you can reinstall Windows in one of two ways.
You can do an upgrade to the current installation.  However, you need to remove all the service packs that are not on your installation media.
The other choice would be a restore clean installation or factory, according to your support system.  If you make this option (which if it were me, would be my choice), you must back up all your data, then the reinstallation of the system and to get all installed updates and antivirus software and running upward, scan your data before you restore on the PC.

  • "Microsoft Update" cannot install the downloaded updates

CURRENT SITUATION (11 October) - PC with Windows XP Pro.

-To access the site MicrosoftUpdates (with IE8) is OK (yesterday almost impossible;) Very slow PC).

-"Search for updates for this computer" is possible, but it takes a long time before the list appears. Most people with this same problem think it hangs, with the activity display bar process for eternity, never finishing. But I just think, they are not patient enough, because it's really time consuming.

-Meanwhile, the CPU takes almost 100% of the activity, caused by service a specific svchost.exe , which I identified as 1436 service id. (EDIT: maybe it was actually 1644 as I see today)
      \system32\svchost.exe - k netsvcs

All updates are detected for installed software and are shown in the usual categories. The installation of each of the updates appears one by one.  However immediately after fact following a message that lists updates whose installation failed (usually 100% fail to install for now)

    What I have:

    1. I checked 3 services to ensure that the correct settings
    -Implemented automatic update (automatic, started)
    -EventLog (automatic, started)
-BIT was missing, but I managed to install it again

Not without effort, I found these guidelines:
    http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/Background-Intelligent-Transfer-Service-will-not-start/

Now the BITS he listed (with auto-start), but it fails to start, even manually!
If I concentrate on the BITS service (could not be started) this may to solve the "problem of update.

    2. I started Windows PC files check sfc/scannow and restarted the system (nothing wrong detected or corrected... I think)

    3. change of standard browser from Firefox to IE8

    Thank you for the help

    Thanks Nirmal S,

I apologize for not having mentioned earlier that this problem has been resolved.

FYI, I use Avast! Antivirus (free version). No malware was involved, but thanks for the useful information.

I found a ready-made channel to reinstall the BITS service, which apparently takes care of a few other things in the registry.  I do not understand what it does, but it worked for me.

    Current situation:
-Little service is installed and is now ok.

-The Microsoft Update site updated analyses required for the installed software/hardware and displays a list. It downloads the installation of each update program, but not an update can be installed.

Since the fundamental problem, I recently started a new separate topic for the same question,
to avoid a much too long discussion here. However, if someone wants to add suggestions hereanyway, you're welcome. Thank you

Some of the information do not show upward in your post, but I was able to understand.

    2. Open C:\list.txt in Notepad. (Remove the first line, it's just the title)

      for /f %i in ('type c:\list.txt') do echo wusa /uninstall /kb:%i /quiet /norestart >> c:\uninstall.cmd
    4. Go to Edition > replace and set the following field values: (replace CTRL + H, "/ kb:KB" " with" / KB: "")

    Hello

I'm currently under Windows 7 64 bit which has been updated to XP in January this year.

Since July, Windows 7 update tried to install following updates without success:

    1) the 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP1/SP2) - error code generated 78(f)

    (2) security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (KB973924) - 643 generated error code

Windows Update tried to install these several times but without success.

Also, I tried to install iTunes and get the following error:

I tried many internet research to try and find a solution to these problems but have had no success.  I tried the following:

    (1) re-intsalled .net framework 4

    (2) run the System File Checker that could not so I tried my windows disk, but it could not start because the message says that two updates were waiting to be installed

Now, I'm really worried that I have a big problem with Windows.

Well, any help that you can give to avoid reinstalling my system would be appreiated.

    Thank you very much

Thanks for your help Irfan H and PA bear but unfortunately none of the above suggestions has solved my problem and I couldn't find another solution on the internet that worked.

Finally, I had to do a clean install of my system using an image of my hard drive that I created during my first installation of windows 7.  Now, everything seems to work properly and installing updates without problems.

  • Windows Update - cannot install Windows SP2 or KB 979911.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition installed, and in January he ceased to apply the updates of Windows security.  I tried to solve this problem, but eventually gave up and reinstalled windows (gasp!).

Well, the drive I got for the machine was 2008, so he installed Windows Vista SP1.  I then applied a bunch of updates (via Windows Update) until I came to KB 979911, when it is not (always) with error 80073712.

I did a SFC/scannow, but there are no errors.  I then installed the Microsoft Fix it Center and installed Windows Update Fixer.  Whenever I run this from I get Windows Update components detected problems must be repaired - and the result is successful in repairing the Windows Update components.  I also get the default data location Windows Update question changed - (verified result) and the comment "where Windows Update stores modified data must be repaired.  I doesn't matter if I know.

I also see locations of repair by default Windows Update - works not (I don't know how to run) and a comment to the locations of Windows Update change to the default settings of Windows (I don't know how do either).

I then run KB947821 (CheckSUR) to check the status of preparation of system.  and get several registry errors 2 of each of the components and missing packets related to Package_20_for_KB937286 in the Microsft_Windows_Help_CoreClientUAHP-Pachage (and the corresponding notice of UAUE) as well as the x86_microsoft-windows-help - artcone.resources and the related medctr.resources.

Then... I try to install SP2 (which is now coming through my Windows Update and it of fine, restarts the machine, staging 3 100% and then comes back, restarts and continues the reversion.)  He returned in the form 800f082c of the error.  Installation via the stand-alone stub leads to the same result.

FYI... I have run diagnostics on hardware and all is well.  I'm at my wits end here, so any help is appreciated.
