Update on Portege A100 HDD

Hello

2 questions:

1. I would like to replace my hard drive 3 yr old portege a100 with 2.5 inch 100-200 GB hard drive (internal).
I was wondering if it was possible?

2. I was wondering if, if the hard drive has been replaced with a new drive from 100 to 200 GB, so Windows XP Professional run / would be allowed to install on the new drive?

Thank you very much.

Hello

Windows XP will accept the larger sizes of drive HARD, but not the BIOS!
The BIOS does not recognize the new HARD drive in a case value and you will not be able to reinstall the OS!

After a short investigation found several compatible HARD drive sizes for Portege A100.
Seems you can use 40, 60 GB and 80 GB. In my opinion the 100 GB HARD drive could be also compatible. But you will not be able to use a 200 GB HARD drive. It is simply too!

    Hello

I have an old Portege A100, model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find this model on any Web site of Toshiba, closest I've seen is the "PPA10A - 0002 L'.

I am wanting to know if there is a BIOS update that will allow me to boot from a USB device.

The question I have is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cannot read disks.

    Hello

Portege A100 seems to be developed solely for the Australian market.
As you say it is a model number Portege A100 PPA10A - 0002L listed on the Australian page of Toshiba Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A
So in my opinion, the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add boot options.

Usually the BIOS supports booting from CD/DVD drive, drive HARD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a boot disk using a USB FDD drive.
I doubt you'd be able to boot from USB WEIRD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

  • Can Vista on Portege A100 - I update the BIOS?

Had a go at this facility, and everything is well outside the installation of value-added package - the main thing I want to make it work is the function for the brightness of the screen keys and connect a TV.

I understand that the upgrade of the BIOS can contribute to obtaining of the installed VAP (I'm getting an ID ERR NOTINSTALLTVALZ), I know that Toshiba will not directly support the A100 for Vista, but is there a BIOS I can install that works? I think there could be a similar machine that works in Vista or maybe just a BIOS A100 that will suffice?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

May I ask where did you get the Vista Package value added for Portege A100?
I didn t find this value-added package on Toshiba Europe site.

There are only 3 files for Vista. One of the files is BIOS v1.60 - WIN, which seems to be independent of the operating system.

    With regard to the BIOS;
You should know that the update of the BIOS is always risky.
If you use the wrong version of BIOS or bad BIOS update procedure can damage the motherboard!
and as you probably know the motherboard is one of the expensive laptop parts!
It s not worth it to try something that can damage the laptop. You know

  • The maximum size of the HDD in Portege A100

My hard drive 40 Gb in my Portege A100 age of 3 years. just died. I was wondering how big a hard drive to buy while it will be recognized by the BIOS?

Someone in the internet used a 60 GB HARD drive in the Portege A100 and it worked.
Maybe a 80 GB is possible, but there is no statement official on the size of HDD supported and compatible.

The best way is to test different sizes with a distributor of HARD drive.
Thanks for posting a comment after the HARD drive test

  • Utility power management Portege A100 has stopped working

The power management utility has stopped working and when I try to save the profile of Laptop/portable power management screen control panel I get a message saying that the power cannot be defined as two revision levels are incompatible.

I tried to remove and reinstall the Power Management Utility and utility Toshiba but when reinstall I get a fatal error notice and the 0x51A error code. Can anyone help please?

I suspect that this problem could have been triggered by an update XP or Norton Internet Security.

    Hello

Maybe the registry is confused upward
Try to clean and repair the registry using CCleaner. It the free tool.

Firstly uninstall the energy saver, then clean the registry.
Download page of the European driver Toshiba Portege A100 Win XP tools and drivers.
    You will need:

Common module-> must be installed first!
    Energy-saving

  • Portege A100 - need new driver for graphics card to play games

I own a Portege A100 and I need to update the graphics controller to play games.

My problem is I went to the Download Center and the latest driver is currently installed in my notebook.
I got this game running before but had my cell reprogrammed and don't remember how to operate.

    Help, please!

Hmmmm... to be honest Portege is not portable for the games. Maybe for playing chess, but for some graphics intensive games is certainly bad laptop.

Anyway, the question is what you want to do.
Do you want to play some games or simply to grow old (already working) game to run again? Or maybe the two options?

  • Portege A100 suddenly started going very slowly

    Hello

I have a Portege A100, which suddenly began to go very slowly. It takes 5 minutes to load completely upward when it was much faster. I tried to reload Windows on it several times, but as soon as you start loading other pieces of software on the speed significantly deteriorates.

I also tried to use software to completely clean the hard drive before Windows on it but this does not solve the problem either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello David

I had a similar behavior on my old satellite 1900. At the end I checked the HARD drive and there are lots of bad sectors. At the beginning everything was OK, but after the installation of a few different satellite applications was slower and slower.

In the end, I switched HDD and everything was OK again. I recommend you to check the HARD drive to see if there are some bad sectors. If so buy new HARD drive. Repair of sector help much.

  • Upgrade for Portege A100 wireless LAN driver

Is my wireless Atheros AR 5001 X +. I received notification of upgrade of Toshiba for Intel Pro Wireless XXXX.

Can someone help how to identify which Intel driver should I use for my system (Portege A100 with XP Pro)?

    Thank you very much

    Hi Max

I wonder why you want to update the Intel WLan card driver.
According to your first post you use card Atheros AR 5001 X + WLan and not Intel WLan card. Please don t mix Intel cards with Atheros cards.

PS: If you want to check the version of your Wlan card driver you must go to the Device Manager.
There, you have to select the WLan card and access the properties (right click).

I sent an email to a place called "spare = parts Warehouse", but they had trouble finding the part

But if anyone knows for sure, that would be great.

    Hi Widget,

To be honest, I doubt anyone here can tell you the part number of this cable. It s only a user to user forum where you can talk with normal people like you and me.

In my opinion, you should contact the closest service provider authorized in your country. On the Toshiba site, you can find a list of them:
    www.MyToshiba.com.au > Support > find a Service Centre

    Good luck! :)

  • Portege A100 - where is the CMOS battery?

    Hello
Can someone tell me where the CMOS battery is located in a Portege A100, please?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Why, you want to know where is the CMOS battery? You want to exchange it?

I think this question can anybody answer here because it s only a user to user forum. Never saw here authorized technicians or anyone from Toshiba.

Regarding your question, you should contact the nearest authorized service provider. They can answer any technical questions and also to exchange the battery for you. ;)

  • Portege A100 - specifications of need hardware and drivers

    Hello

I'm trying to re - organize a laptop for a friend and get good video and audio drivers. The machine (built in Europe) is a "Portege A100' with a model number of PPA10E-0002N-EN.

None of the Toshiba forums list the as a Portege A100 and the model number does not appear in the list of the models of satellite. As a result, I'm shooting in the dark to determine what that the specification of the equipment to get the correct drivers.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Portege A100 seems to be the old series laptop and it's why pilots have been moved to the archives.

In * Archive area * you will certainly find the necessary drivers.
Currently, the European driver Toshiba page contains the Analog Devices Inc. Win XP driver sound v5.12.01.3542 and Intel display driver 6.13.10.3514 version.

    Check it out!

  • Replacement for a Portege A100 DVD player

    Hello

My Portege DVD drive makes horrible rattling noises and seems to be endangered. I read in a thread here that universal readers could not work as of the Portege BIOS has assigned the DVD drive as slave and the new drive should be a slave to work. Is this correct? I really don't want to do the fix welding!

I have another laptop that has a TSST drive and I plugged it and the portgege showed an ide error. It of just a matter of having good firmware or is the problem with the above mentioned ide settings.

I selected a Toshiba PA3162E dvd player - 2 CD 2, but he said with the Portege 4000, 4010 compatitble, M100 and Tecra 9000 it's does not list the compatible A100. Does anyone know if this drive works on my machine?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

If you check s manuals for Portege A100 is there a list of compatible ratings? Problem is that all Toshiba laptops do not have the same hardware platform and any waiting won't work on each laptop model. As far as I know the pin assignment is different. Because of this, you need compatible ODD for your laptop model.

As I said at the beginning usually all compatible sides are included in manuals s user document. Please check. If this isn't the case, please let us know.

  • TV-out on a Portege A100 does not work

I can't the TV Out port on my Portege A100 to work. It is a port of type Composite/RCA. I followed the instructions in the manual, but the TV icon is not listed in the XGP properties.

Those listed are: monitor, laptop, Intel Dual Display Clone and extended desktop. The drivers are Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME 6.14.10.4277 version.

    Am I missing something here?
    concerning

    Hello

have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Usually, if you connect the tv CORRECTLY to your portege, TV output should recognize that something is connected and should show you the icon while rotational output devices.

Maybe something on your cable is bad?
Just do the following: reinstall the drivers, plug a cable into your machine and the tv and then try switching devices.

Please give some comments after completing this...

  • Portege A100 - problems recognizing a new DVD burner

    Hello

I'm looking to replace the Panasonic/Matsu * player UJDA750 combo with a LiteOn SOSW - 852S DVD burner. The LiteOn is CSEL and is not recognized by the Portege A100. I tried to change the master/slave/CSEL and Inverse CSEL using E2MS_WIN_SOSW - 852 S .exe (in an Acer Travelmate 220, which sees all configurations), but the Portege A100 still does not recognize LiteOn.

I ran IDEDIAG using a WinME boot CD and the Matsu * a Combo drive in Portege reports as secondary master. So, I tried flashing the drive LiteOn (using the Acer Travelmate platform) with MTKFlash version 183 c using the a command? "mtkflash 3 w/b PRS9.bin" (using the original firmware of saved), '3' to change the drive to the secondary master. I came across problems here - the flash appears to hang. The drive is always ok, however. I flashed it back to the original ok CSEL using E2MS program in Acer.

I have not tried bridging the pins 45 to 47 on the LiteOn - I thought maybe it was a last resort.
-Can help you with the correct configuration for a CD/DVD drive in the Portege A100? There are a bunch of different ones - primary, secondary, tertiary, Quarternary master/slave and CSEL and Inverse CSEL. Portege A100 'sees' the Matsu * a CDROM model CR-176_B of Acer.

Or - can you recommend me a DVD burner for this laptop?

    Hello

The evolution of the master/slave/c-salt settings is not recommended and tell the truth I put t know if its possible. I presume that it of not possible to Flash these settings on medium power.
In my opinion it doesn't make any sense to do.
This procedure may damage the drive. Maybe you will not be able to use this drive more and more you will void the warranty!

I think it s better to buy a compatible device and supported as trying to drive not compatible flash.

Did you check your user manual? Usually the user manual should provide information on compatible CD/DVD players and supported.

    Good bye
