  Unfortunately, you cannot update the graphics card on this laptop. Your best bet is to adjust the settings in the games that you play until you capturing better framerates.

  When you say "reformat", I assume that you want to restore the default settings on the system; to pretend like it was when you bought it. It is advisable to do if you have a lot of programs installed, or having software problems. This will make just as clean as it was when you bought it.

  Just turn off the computer completely (stopped), then put it back in and immediately after pressing the power button, press the F11 key. After a few moments, you should see the System Recovery Manager. Follow the instructions on the screen to reformat and restore to a new State.   my laptop is an acer aspire 5515 comes with Vista Home Basic. no problems with vista but the problem came when Defender got his monthly update of malware and wanted to remove some of the acers (software) programs... so I bought the full version of win 7 must update driver for the ati x 1200 graphics card. Acer will not help and wants to charge me to do it as well as a fee of $ 200. AMD won't help they just refer me back to acer.

  I have this system cleaner called advanced system of care and it came with a program called game booster. It checks for the driver who should be ranked upwards and provides the link.   I downloaded the driver from this 1st then downloaded from the acer site. most copied the files and the driver 10.1 works now.  Thanks for the link I'll save for future use.

  Upgrading the video card is a non-starter. The video chip is soldered to the motherboard and not something that can be removed and replaced.

  More memory will help the video a bit. Not a lot. You say you have 4 gigs which is not bad, so an upgrade to 8 will do any type of work only a little better and video games a little bit better. Don't expect significant increase in the frequency of images of the games, for example.

  Basically, you can, with a cost, and I think that this cost can be more expensive than buying a new computer because you have to take into account:

  • New price of the card, and WHERE you can buy it because the laptop cards are not the same office maps. You can't buy any normal store,
  • Need new card system (can be),
  • Need new system of cooling because in general more powerful card pumps out more heat (you want more powerful card don't you?).
  • May need new power supply because your current diet is not suitbale for the card. (I ordered a machine with the Nvidia card and I need to order a 90W charger at the same time, not the normal charger 65W. They rejected just my order.)
  • Cost of the work.
  • Packages a lot, a lot of aspirin.
