Update video card: 630i Desktop - need advice

I have a Dell XPS 630i Desktop 5 1/2 year, which usually is going very well, with enough power for most of the cases.  Recently implemented a 125 GB SSD as drive operating system.

Anyway, in these last days, we got some random video artifacts appears sporadically on one or two of my two monitors Viewsonic (DVI for both of the Nvidia 9800GT 512 MB video card).  A small section of the screen will have the weird characters, sometimes a bunch of screen Flash, etc.  And a few times that there was a BSOD crash, with the video driver (nvlddmkm.sys) be responsible.

I tell myself that there must be a bad video card or driver.  I have updated to the pilot the most recent on the Dell site (R213185, 181.30, Vista 64, A04) and well.  But I have this vague feeling that it is a hardware problem.  If it was a driver problem, why now after all these years, he suddenly would be problems, no recent changes to the system, etc..

I used the tools of diagnosis from Dell, which has tested the performance of the video card, memory, etc, and no errors were detected, which is encouraging.

I post here, to seek advice, in which case the video card end up being the problem and need to be replaced.

1. If I decide to replace it, what are some good recommendations for a new map of video for this system (Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40 GHz, 6 GB of RAM).  I don't want exaggerated and pay for potential performance of video card I would not be obtained with the old motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc.

2. the current system is sufficient for most cases, with the main shortcoming being the slow performance when you are working on my of Canon DSLR Raw files in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop, watch a HD video from camcorders or other sources, etc.  In this regard, replace the video card would provide a substantial improvement in this type of performance?

3. I'd rather than replace the entire office by something more recent?

All thought, popular point of view.

Video card drivers can become corrupt and simply uninstall them and their update with a new driver may solve the problem.  It is more likely a hardware problem, a driver problem, even if the 9800 GT is an old map.  If he wasn't pushed hard with the game over the years, then it can last a long time. XPS 630i is a good system and with the Q6600 it is still worthy and can perform very well.  If you were to replace the video card, I'd just get something simple like the GTX 650 HERE, which would exceed the performance of the 9800 GT and not market much.

    @johnh48, welcome to the forum.

The most recent video cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS.  HP didn't start using UEFI to mie-October 2012.  The BIOS may not be upgraded in the UEFI.  The last cards only not for UEFI are the GTX 660/670.

Here is a video card that will give you what you need.  However, it will take a power supply (PSU) upgrade, too.  I love Corsair products.  I propose a modular power supply at least 500W.  Almost any card that meets your needs will require an upgrade of the power supply.

Now on windows 7, the games running slow - update video card driver error message and/or turn on hardware accelerator.  Sony supporting not - how make to identift video card in my laptop?

Press the Windows key, type in "Device Manager" without the quotes and the Device Manager select from the list that appears, or press ENTER.

In the window that appears, find graphics card and press the sign more or arrow to the left of it. It should fall down the name of the video card you have.

  • How and where can need to update video card, so that will support WDDM - I get updates?

I have windows Vista Premium - I don't know if it's a 32-bit or 64-bit. I need to upgrade the video card or update the driver; maybe both. Where should I go to access the update so that I can fully enjoy Microsoft Media Center.

You need to update the video card driver (if an update exists) from the web site of the manufacturer of the video card (support and/or driver download section of their web page.)

First of all understand what architecture of Windows Vista you are using: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions

Second figure on what video card, you have to download, install and run the Belarc Advisor free tool and view in his section of the display.  There are several other ways - but I think the more information you can get right now - the better.  I would like to print the results and store your documentation system, system software and backups in a safe place

Third - visit the manufacturer's Web site for drivers for the make and model of video card you have.

  • Need help updating video card!

    Hello

I bought a HP last year: AMD Athon 64 Quad Core

    8 GB Ram

    ATI Radeon 4200 graphics card

    POWER 250W

However, the video card works well with some of the new software that we have recently added this season holiday, I'm looking to upgrade the machine. After researching on the forums, it seems that the HD6870 is a solid upgrade at a reasonable price, but PS the250W is a matter of concern.

    My questions are:

    (1) can I buy any power supply (looking Coolmaster 460W PSU)

    (2) with the new power supply, is that all I need to upgrade the video card and

    (3) I just want to confirm that the HD6870 is a compatible video card that will work with my machine and the new PSU

    Thanks in advance.

    Most of the HD 6870 cards I Iooked at having these requirements;

■PCI Express® based PC is required with a X 16 channel available on the motherboard graphics slot.
■2X75 Watt 6 pin PCI Express power connector is required.
■Certified-power supplies are recommended. Please refer to: http://support.amd.com/us/certified/power-supplies/Pages/listing.aspx
■500 Watt Power Supply is necessary.

    (1) Yes, you can buy any power supply, but he needs 500 watts or more, and fit into the case without blocking the other components. A few favorites forum are Corsair CX500, or CX600.

    (2) who should be all you need.

    (3) the HD 6870 should work on your system with a new 500 watts or PSU. However, if you provide the model number or product number, we could check the specifications of your computer to better confirm that this is the case.

  • Laptop HP 15-AC639NG: update video card

Hello, I would like to upgrade the video card in my laptop, but I'm not familiar with laptops. How can I find what graphics cards are compatible with my motherboard? It is worth making the upgrade or is it risky? Currently I have a R5 AMD graphics card. What other advice you have for me? Thank you in advance.

This is a very common question and who do not earn a lot of goodwill, but the truth is there is no way to upgrade your video. Laptops have custom designed mothers and many maps that you can insert into a desktop computer are installed in a laptop by the presence of soldered chips flat on the motherboard. I want to say have you ever seen a desktop video card? How could you possibly put something like in a laptop? Some special very, very made up of games and laptops of engineering have a slot to put a flat blg video card in but no laptop of HP consumer doesn't have such a slot. Laptops that have this ability are more than $2,000 and even then the cards are not freely interchangeable as a desktop computer. So, the simple answer to your question is that you can not do. I'm sorry.

  • HP Phoenix H9 - 1150T: NO video on an updated video card

Installation of a 370 R7 graphics card. I can adapt to and connect the power cable (500 watts). The computer starts with NO VIDEO at all. He seeks drivers and restart still no video. I watched this and it could be a bios problem. Checked relevant forum and site of video card without a son.   My motherboard has an older bios with no. UEFI. Is it possible to update the bios to UEFI support. Not searched high and low on HP sites, no chance. Megatends US to wonder about the mobo maker will mobo so see if they have an update. BTW this is for both systems are identical, they both have the same problem. Trying to avoid a call to technical support on my dime. If all else fails I will update a good not expensive mobo and re-use of ram and cpu.

Thank you any help is welcome.

. UPDATE * with several systems on hand. I realized the 370 R7 is NOT compatible with the system board. I put the R7 370 4 GB in an older HP (HPE580) and it worked. Then put the card of the HPE 580 in PHOENIX (h9 - 1150t) and it worked. It was an R9 270 2 GB. SO a R9 270 WORK of WILL and a R7 370 4 GB 2 GB won't WORK. Need a bios upgrade same MSI tech support said it was common on this model (h9 - 1150t) Phoenix. Thanks for the help!

  • custom update video card in Windows vista

Well here is my problem, I recently started to play games on my PC but every time I try to launch a game, I'm down market square of steam, it tells me to update my video card driver and redirects me to this site http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect. After I scan my computer for updates I navigate through my products and my graphics driver it tellls me this

    A Intel® G33/G31driver current installed Build 7.15.10.1608 detected product

A custom computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update utility is not able to update the driver. Install a generic Intel driver instead of the driver from the computer manufacturer custom can cause technical problems. Contact yourcomputer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

So, how do I change that?

    Johnny, welcome to the forum.

When a help request, you must always include the brand / model of the computer or the monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications for them.

HP has its video designed especially for them cards run with other OEM components.  Therefore, the driver is custom.  That's why the Intel driver will not work.

If you want to play games on the computer, I suggest upgrading to a discrete video card.  This will eliminate the need for video to share system memory.  You will see an increase in the performance of the system and games will work much better.

  • update graphics card for desktop PC HP Pavilion p6-2378

I am looking to update my graphics card for my PC. Those who would be the best for my computer?

    Gamer30, welcome to the forum.

I think that your handle explain what you want to do with the new video card.  Therefore, in my opinion, you have to upgrade the power supply (PSU), also.  The existing PSU is 300W.  Latest intermediate level maps require a minimum of 400 w to work properly.  These cards will be much better than the integrated video.

I like Corsair and OCZ PSU.  They are of high quality.  Here's one that should fit in the space provided and give some future upgrade room.  I would normally recommend at least 500W, but 500 or 600 w will work as well for your situation.  The computer does not use any more power there need work properly.  As a result, won't hurt the computer. I recommend you measure the PSU existing and comparing measures to whichever you choose.

I like the graphics cards XFX, EVGA, Sapphire and PNY in that order.  Here is one that you will give a boost to good performance and won't break the Bank.  I recommend you stay less than 9 "long.  This ensures that it fits in the space provided.

If you don't like one of the recommendations I have made, they will give you at least an idea of what works in your computer.  Always read the reviews to see what users have to say about any product you decide to buy.

You are welcome!  Thank you for the additional information.

As I suspected, your computer has a standard BIOS.  This means that you can buy an older video card.  I love EVGA products.  I suggest to find a card you like and contact Tech Support from the manufacturer (Technical Support EVGA 1-888-880-3842) in order to ensure that it will work on your computer.  It is the best way I found to do not have to make a return.  The last card done EVGA used a standard BIOS was their 640 GT.  Some of them have a update for the VBIOS that allows them to run with a standard BIOS.

Now for the power supply (PSU).  I love Corsair products.  I normally recommend at least 500W.  This allows for future updates.  A modular power supply is good for smaller cases.  Simply use the required cables, allowing a better air circulation.  You must measure the existing PSU and compare the measurements to the one you choose.  All connectors must be compatible.

  • Update video card for hpe-170f?

    Hello

Before you go out and spend money on a video map high-end, I need to know what video (NVIDIA preference) card install smoothly and work best with my HP desktop computer. Of course, since I bought my PC, I did not open her top and check inside.

I'm upgrading to take full advantage of Direct X 11 and play new games such as BF3.

    Thank you!

    Samsung LCD 27 "monitor
Come on... San Diego Super Chargers!

460 watt is good for the GTX460, Nvidia said min 500 watts for a GTX560ti. Even your probably very well with the GTX560ti as long as you have not OC it. With the GTX560ti you would be the limit / pushing running on a 460 watt POWER supply. Also, you'll need to use 2 sheets of power supply 6 pins, your power supply only has one. If you install a GTX560 card, I think the GTX460 use only 1 6-pin socket.

If running a card GTX560, you will need to buy 2 sata for power adapter connector 4 pins to connect the molex power cable 4 pin supplied with the video card. Fry's sells these @ $3 ea. This will allow you to run your GTX560 or any card power 6 2 pins with your current 460 watt POWER supply. At this point you will have exhausted all of your internal power connections if you have 2 HD installed.

  • Update video card for 500-027 c

Im looking to upgrade my video card for HP 500-027c desktop computer and I was wondering if it can accommodate an EVGA GTX760 SC? I heard some people having problems with the GTX760 series of BIOS and doubts as to my turn may even support a double tie. Any suggestions?

    Kevin, welcome to the forum.

I think that users who have problems have not a UEFI BIOS into the motherboard.  Your computer has a complete UEFI BIOS.  The problem you will have is the length of the card (10.5 ") and the need for power (600 w) with a minimum of 42 amps on 12V + rail.  You can make a model of the size of the card to see if it will fit.  You need a lot of space for good air circulation.  The power supply can be improved.  You must at least 700W.

Note: After further research, I found that there are several different sizes of this video card with the requirements of different powers and lengths.
