  • Reformat the hard disk of the P105-S6114

I need to reformat the hard drive to my PC by Satellite. I inserted the disc 1, off, turned back on while pressing F12. I chose 'clear the hard disk', and this part of the process went well. It took about 1.5 hours. However, he never asked the other disk. All I get now when I turn it on is a black screen with the letter 'j' in the upper left.

Can you tell me what to do now to re - install the default software/settings of recovery disks?

    Thank you!

    Jin

If I understand correctly, you want to reinstall the OS with a recovery disk... In the Bios, set under the 1st boot device cd/dvdrom. Then, insert the diskette and reboot the laptop, according to the instructions on the screen that should start the installation process...

To be honest, I do not know what that letter, j, means :) BU I know, the 1st recovery disk contains bones with driver and another disc with Toshiba Utilities. Perhaps, you should go to Bios and set hdd under the 1st boot device rather id cd/dvdrom

  • I reformatted my T520 with the recovery disk, but Windows cannot start

I reformatted my T520 with my recovery disk. When the computer restarts, it says that Windows cannot start properly. Help, please.

I finally solved the problem; Here is my solution:

I have determined that the backup image has been bad, and this is perhaps why the recovery disks have been as bad. I tried to use both to reformat the C:\drive several times without success. Fortunately, I had a Windows 7 disc from another computer that I no longer use. However, the T520 would not be updated to Windows 7 using this disk, so I run Diskpart to reformat all (this removes everything, including the image.) Then, I was able to reinstall Windows 7.

With this new facility, would not any responsible drivers, including LAN and wireless drivers. I went on the Lenovo Web site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?selector=expand to download the driver for "Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg). This provided wireless access to the computer. (Downloaded the driver on another computer, saved on a USB stick to transfer to the T520.) Restarted the computer in case where. Then, I went to http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVSU-UPDATE to download ThinkVantage System Update 5.0. After you have installed this software and reboot, all the necessary drivers would be so loaded.

Unfortunately, if you don't have any Windows disk, you will need to pay 50 dollars to get one from Lenovo. Lesson learned? Next time I buy a new computer, the first thing I would do is to reformat and reload the computer by using the image while still under warranty. I did several times with my other Lenovo laptops without fail. I have to do this once every 3 years each time my computer seems to slow down. This is the first time, it didn't work.

I hope this help anyone who is in the same situation.

(Boy, I have miss the good old days when I could fix everything from the DOS command prompt.)

  • Reformat the hard disk

I'm trying to reformat my hard drive with Vista Home on it. I got to the point where it has the drivers and partitions.  I deleted all the until it says unallocated space.  I click on the unallocated space and can't click on the format option.  How can ensure me that my hard drive reformatted completely until I have to reinstall vista.

    Hello

read this tutorial on how to clean install vista

the figures used are only an example

    http://www.theeldergeek.com/Vista/vista_clean_installation.html

Once determined the type of installation, it's time to decide where to install Vista. As you can see on the screenshot options in this scenario are limited. There is a 20 GB hard drive and it is all unallocated space. If your intention is to return the entire disk in Vista with none of the additional partitions for other uses, all you have to do is click on disk 0, and then click the [next] button. The installation will continue.

This is the absolute minimum step. However, if you want to partition the disk and format (unnecessary at this point, but possible), then click on "route Options" for additional choices.

This is an example of how you can divide the drive into partitions before continuing the installation. I used the option "New" to create a 10 GB partition in the unallocated space. It will become the primary partition and leave an another 10 GB as unallocated space.
This is what it looks like after that initial 20 GB of unallocated space was divided. The first 10 GB of disk space is now identified as Partition 1 and the second 10 GB remains as unallocated space. If you want you can select the remaining unallocated space and use the command [new] to create another partition and can be formatted using the [Format] command.

Note that the [Extend] command is also available for use. Clicking on it you will allow to "extend" 1 Partition in the unallocated space. Unlike some programs of partitioning that allow to resize a partition in two directions (more grand/smaller), the command "expand" uses the size of the partition as the minimum size and allows you to increase or "extend" if it includes the unallocated space.

If your goal is to reinstall the operating system there are ways to achieve

We need to tap the F11 key immediately after presswing the laptop power button. Who will call the Recovery Manager unless you have deleted the recovery partition or have done something to the original disk partition scheme. In the Recovery Manager simply choose to recover your PC for the original operating system

Alternatively, you can order a set of HP recovery disks.

  • The recovery disk reformatted TWO hard disks on Satellite P200?

    Hello

My Satellite P200 has two hard drives.
When I use the recovery disc, it reformatted both drives or only one where Vista will be? I chose the first option, by the way.
Thank you, in advance, for your help.

If you choose the first option in recovery then it reformatted only the first HARD drive and it will consider the other HDD as additional storage space, as if it were a memory stick. When you get to the point of recover where you choose the operating system to install, it takes an option for settings or Expert mode. In one of them, I think that you can configure recovery and set up partitions.

If you want the operating system must be installed on both drives HARD, which is a bit useless, you have to remove one then do the reocvery on the other and then replace the retrieved by another and then to perform the recovery on that one. The only thing that I think this will mess up to comes from the computer won't know what MBR (Master Boot Record) to load, but if this isn't a problem then you can do what I just mentioned.

    I hope this helps.

  • Unable to overcome error - "the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

    Hello!

I'm trying to install Windows on my iMac (late 2013, running 10.11.6) without success.  I created the ISO to a flash drive, but when I try to use the Assistant Boot camp, I am referred to the following screen:

I did my best to study solutions. The cause, by apple support discussions, is that there is another partition of pre-empting (stop) the wizard boot camp partitioning the hard drive.  I studied the partitions on my HDD after unplugging all devices and found this:

This shows the main partition: Macintosh HD, the bootcamp partition: BOOTCAMP; and 2 unknown partitions: "Apple HDD ST100DM003 Media" and the same * M004.  I was able to delete the first Apple ST100DM003 HARD disk partition and ran first aid on the fusion drive after that the second he would not remove.  Also, I can't delete the boot camp partition.  I keep getting the same message when I try to install windows on a partition of the fuser unit using Boot Camp Assistant - "Startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition".

    Any suggestions?

I have a Time Machine backup to an external drive. It works very well. However, he was beginning to run out of space, so I bought a new, bigger HD.

I followed all the steps of Time Machine: how to transfer backups from a current backup disk to a new backup drive - Apple Support.

I then waited 12 hours for that copy.

Around midnight, I noticed the copy is complete. There was a message that iWork had not been copied because he needed a different operating system. But I rejected. There are no other messages.

I changed the Time Machine preferences on the new disk. And fell asleep.

This morning, I walked into a Time Machine.

Only the first date from July 2014, was on the new disc of TM. Then there was five times after midnight when the new drive was saved.

But there is nothing in any of the years between the first date and after midnight.

I know that there are hundreds of TM captures on the original disc. And I've used them very well.

I tried to copy individual files from the old drive to TM to the new, but it is not possible to "change the backups."

    Hello

Generally, it should be possible to recover the device with the CD of Toshiba recovery without any problem. Eventually, there is an error on the HARD disk.
You should try to format the HARD disk without using the Toshiba Recovery CD.

  • RND4000 - change the hard disks, will that erases data on older players

I took out the old records and set it asside.

Then put in some different readers. Different drives are from a NAS RNDX4000 and they initialize automatically.

    I wasn't expecting that.

Now, if I take on different disks and put the old disks in will I lose all the data?

I need to still get the data on the old disks. They worked very well.

I don't want them to be initalized.

The reason is that the RNDX4000 was struck by lightning. Really wanted to get information out of thoes readers. Now, I don't want to lose the information I had in RND4000 work.

OS 4.x ReadyNAS all begin with the formatting of disks when they are hot-inserted and in many cases even when they are not hot-inserted.

But if you turn off, insert the old disks in their original locations, and then powered on, then the system should simply repeat the operation without loss of data or reformatting.

  • My SSD is not appear in the menu on the boot disk (macbook pro 2012)

Hello world.  So I just got the macbook pro 2012 and starts to do-it-yourself work last night.  I took out the optical drive, transferred the existing location HARD disk (w / caddy) and installed an SSD in its place.  Then I cloned the SSD HARD drive.  No problems so far.

When I went to change the boot drive startup disk preferences is where I ran into a problem.  My original HARD drive is the only projection.  I had the problem in choosing the boot drive during the reboot (the SSD will appear in this menu) and makes it the default value it.  SSD works very well and is now my main boot drive.  However, I still would like to show in startup disk preferences.  Is it possible to do (preferably without erasing the SSD)?

    Thank you!

Relevant info - I'm running El Capitan and I used SuperDuper! to clone the HARD disk.

OK, can I have found the problem.  Map of partition of the SSD has been MBR, no GUID.  I deleted it, reformatted and I am re-cloning it now.  I'll post the result (I hope that as a confirmed for another solution which meets with this).
