Update Windows to Pavilion dv6500

I have a HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop since 2007. It has a slow hard drive and a horrible MS Vista. In order to bring in the 21st century, I replaced the hard drive with a Seagate Momentus XT and was trying to install Windows 8. I have version 8.1 and got stuck in the first stage. I run the installer from a USB key.

The installation program recognizes the hard drive, I can create particition and format as usual, but when I click Next I get the error "we cannot create a new partition or locate an existing one. I tried to delete the key USB as suggested on many sites, but then I get the "windows can not the selected location. "Error: 0 x 80300001" message. Yet once, I was on google on this read error and found references to ACHI and SMART setting in BIOS that this computer does not.

I'm trying to do something that's never going to work? Is this a hardware problem, I'll never be able to solve? What version of Windows, can I install on this other than Vista laptop?

Thanks in advance for your help.

With a laptop of 2007 which you will probably have questions when you try to install Windows 8.  Your laptop is almost seven years old.  You're in a place where to invest $$ or Euros into it is a losing proposition.  Consider upgrading your laptop new or at least newer.

You may have trouble finding drivers for the hardware built into the chipset on the motherboard of the laptop.

You would be better of installing Windows 7 in your book. There is a long tutorial here in the forum that explains how. I edit this message and provide a link to where you can find it.

Here is the link to the guide general Windows 7 Upgrade for HP laptops. Go to the end of the wire (page 19) to find the tutorial section.

OK, here's my problem. I had Windows Vista, has been sick with it. As you say you are not a noob so maybe you need to change something in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Maybe go to the advanced option when you're at NVIDIA.

Personally when I clean installs I delete, and format the entire disk before installing W7. Doing it this way usually prevents this kind of error occurs. When you use the W7 install disk to format, it may not remove all of the old files registry Vista and can cause problems.

If you start from scratch once again, this may solve your problem, but there is no guarantee.

It took 4 tries on my HDX from Vista to W7 to do things.

I just took a glance at my NVIDIA advanced and under Show options there is an option to "manage custom resolutions. Here I could input what I wanted. What's your has that?

  • G6 Pavilion: Pavilion g6 problems AFTER updating Windows 10 30 + days

I have several HP Pavilion g6 mobile phones that receive the upgrade to Windows 10 guest. The first laptop that I have upgraded to Windows 10 as a test worked very well during the period of 30 days a computer OS can be returned to Windows 7 SP1. Once Microsoft updated the Win 10 install 30 days post and removed the possibility of returning to Windows 7, I started having problems where left mouse clicking on the icon start in the toolbar has no effect.

I went to the HP site and discovered that HP had not tested the computer to win 10, as the only BIOS supported Windows 7 and HP does not have an interest in the update BIOS to win 10. If the problems continue, and HP does not update the BIOS or other drivers who have problems of compatibility of Windows 10, I have a year old perfectly good computer before it should be removed from junk food.

You have all the patches recommended for ease of use of the g6 with Windows 10 Pavilion? It was working perfectly before the upgrade of the Microsoft OS last 30 days.

    Richard

Without more than a number of model, if specific help can be offered.  There are a lot of portable G6, but I don't expect HP to issue a new BIOS for a model that is fairly old windows 10 test was not done.

That being said, there is no reason for "I have a year old perfectly good computer before it should be removed from junk food."  I have not heard of this particular problem before.  BTW: It will work well as before returning to the operating system Windows 7 using the set of disks of recovery or the recovery Partition with the F11 option at startup.

Now, upgrade keeps the process were reluctant about the "Keyboard Filter" driver. There are two types of notifications of compatibility in the compatibility check update Win7 - "HardBlock" and "SoftBlock".

"HardBlock" - SW MUST be uninstalled before upgrade can continue (or actions that must be taken-as a reboot in some cases). The only option is to cancel the upgrade and take the necessary measures

"SoftBlock" - SW which might have problems after upgrading and which could be recommended to uninstall. You can continue the upgrade process, even if you have these notifications without no action (the report will be placed on the desktop for once you have upgraded to Win7 you can always use it as a reference for other actions that you might want to take if necessary)

The "Keyboard Filter" notification is a "SoftBlock" - you can continue the update even if you get this message. In the specific case of the "keyboard" filter (i.e. the pilot button quick launch) - he will be in fact automatically deleted during the upgrade process.

Once your Win7 upgrade has completed, you can reinstall the quick launch buttons driver.

  • Update Windows 8.1 on HP Pavilion 11 X 2

Hi, I just updated my HP Pavilion 11 X 2 to 8.1 windows and now my screen moves very slowly along all the apps and games. I checked the drivers, none of them have yellow signs on them. Fact complete an update so there is no update of HP's Windows, what should I do? Its almost unusable in this State. Thanks in advance.

    http://www.Intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034493.htm

Here's the update: HP tried everything they could and nothing to move. But while we were sharing the monitors, I noticed that my display driver always said Basic, when he wasn't supposed to. Updates from HP or Windows updates does not solve it. Once they left I went to Intel.com and raised his eyes to the processor. For some reson did not have the utility detect so I put in the Info manually. I found Intel HD display drivers, who was suppose to install when you put updated to Windows 8.1 and downloaded on the internet browser and they installed after download. Guess what, everything is operstional now. No lag, no rendering problem, games move at normal speed with all applications. Here's the driver page, click on the tail of the Bay.

  • How to disable the touchpad in windows 8 - Pavilion g6

How to disable the touchpad in windows 8 - Pavilion g6

    Welcome to the forum, Sally.

There are several ways to do this - method you choose may depend on what you need to accomplish.

    Follow a few ideas.

    • A double tap farm in the upper left corner of the touch pad if it off for a single session.

    Enable / disable

Control Panel > display icon > mouse > Settings of TouchPad > click on "enable TouchPad.

They continue parameters to install and configure the TouchPad as you like it...

    ==========================================================================

A method that works with the pilots 'old', it is a failure of session by session...

Make sure this setting is ON / CHECKED:

Control Panel > display icon > mice > TouchPad [ClickPad] settings >

() repeat) TouchPad settings (button) > click tapping >

    Click the shimmering blue wheel

In "box to Disable TouchPad settings".

CHECK "Double Tap to activate / disable the TouchPad.

In the 'Action in the upper left'

CHECK "Disable the TouchPad during a session.

    Close

    Ok

NOTE that, if it is available on your version, you can select to "turn off the TouchPad" - that's fine, unless something goes wrong.  You could get stuck without your USB mouse AND no way to return to the setting to activate the touchpad.  I don't know if I would use this setting.

    ======================================================================================

    Next...
Latest drivers (V16.x) have the ability to disable the TouchPad / click on the keypad with a setting on the main page 'Settings' when a USB mouse is used.  This is a very nice feature.

Control Panel > display icon > mice > TouchPad [ClickPad] settings >

CHECK "disable the pointing device internal when the external USB pointing device is attached.

If you want to be alerted and see a visual cue of disability >

TICK "Animated icon in the taskbar" >

and make sure you have your updated task bar notifications so you can see the view of the mouse.

    =====================================================

    I hope this helps!

  • Update Windows, stuck at step 3 of 3, does not start

    Hello

Reading the forums, so it seems I'm not the only one who had this problem, but none of the data seems to work for me.

My computer is running slow this morning (as sometimes when he treats a large update), so I restarted.  But now, whenever the system tries to start, it gets insofar as the message 'configuration updated step 3 of 3, 0% ' before it restarts in total.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium - I think that it is 32-bit, but I'm not positive.  I have a laptop HP Pavilion DV6345us.

I tried all suggested fixes, I found.  I tried to launch the Mode without failure (all versions of it), but every time it's the same thing.  I've never had to simplified office, I think I'm supposed to see.  I tried the system restore, but none of the dozen or so restoration work points.  After each attempt to restore the system, I get this error message: data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check) (0 x 80070017).

My last update was added on 06/05/10 at 09:16:38.  My last update before that was 05/03/10 at 14:31:18.  My time zone is set to GMT - 8:00 (or Pacific time).  Between the Windows updates, I downloaded an update for Java (Java 6 update 20) 04/05/10.

I have also run the memory diagnostic tool, but that has not changed anything.

I do not have any third-party malware or anti-virus software.

This is all the relevant information, I think I can give.  Any comments would be greatly appreciated, because I use my computer for work and need again as soon as POSSIBLE.

    Thank you!

I do not have any third-party malware or anti-virus software.

    Not good.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

How TO do a clean install of Vista: See the section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation... "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

    The short "Workaround" to try:

Go to your Control Panel > display icon > Device Manager >

Find, right click and "Uninstall", your Audio driver(s).

Do not delete NOT the driver, just right click and 'uninstall '.

    • Do not restart your computer (yet).

    Next:

    • In Control Panel > Windows Update > change settings > disable the recommended updates... You can add them later if / when you get the 'Important' updates to work.
    • You can click to "Check for Updates" again once, or simply go back to your main "Windows Updates" window and now click on the 'Install' button (on the lower right corner of this window).
    • If the 'glitch' updates, in other words, if you get a red 'Failure' and it seems that one or more of these stupid updates suddenly just not download and start installing like you have said just that he does, click on 'Install' again... Now, the updates should start installing.  If you have some big updates (or many of them), this can take some time.
    • For added security, do not do much other work.  The computer market.  Read an e-book.  Keep an eye on it, but don't make your Facebook session or online banking.  Don't shop on Amazon...  Let the system work on the updates.
    • Wait... wait some more... When the updates are loaded, you will be told that you must restart the computer.
    • Reboot / restart the computer when the computer tells you it's time...
    • When the system restarts, these Audio drivers to reinstall it after that updates install and just as the system finished its reboot sequence.

    Good luck!

  • Update Windows Vista crashes with 'check updates'

Last month, Windows Vista updates began to hang on to the 'check updates'.

I have: 1. tried all the fixes I could find.
2 reloaded Vista with SP1 from a recovery partition.
3 update worked until SP2; SP2 downloaded and installed OK.

    4. then, the update said I need latest update agent (7.6.7600.256). Downloaded and installed OK. At this point, the Windows update fails.
    5. If I uninstall SP2, but let the agent update, it works. When I reinstall SP2, it fails.

    6. I have installed a completely different image of Vista - this one was integrated in SP2. This version fails in the same way.

    7. I ran SFC, CHKDSK, System diags, updated all my drivers updated BIOS and replaced the memory. As far as I can tell this is the only thing that does not work on my PC.

Anyone has any ideas. ? -Thanks!

    Hi Ichabod22:

Thanks for your comments, and happy this worked.  I did have the chance to try this workaround yet - my phase "check for updates..." ran for 4 hours during my may 2016 updated Patch Tuesday before we found 16 available updates - but quite a few users of Win 7 SP1 and SP2 of Vista are now reporting that before installing these updates Windows kernel mode driver (Win32k.sys) each month (for example the KB3145739 in April 2016; KB3153199 in may 2016) reduced their updates for Patch Tuesday to hours to minutes.

I doubt that this is a permanent solution so be sure to check the page Web of Dalai Search for Windows Updates takes forever?-a possible solution next month to see if a new version of Win32k.sys is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center before your race updates your June 2016 Patch Tuesday.

Woody Leonhard has published a series of articles on of temporary workaround in his Woody on Windows blog, including Windows 7 update scans still holding? KB 3153199 can solve the problem, so congratulations to Woody, Dalai and others to share this potential solution.
