  I think you can install the drive and use your recovery disk to reinstall Windows.

  You can change the hard drive of your computer with a WD one Pavilion, just keep in mind that you need a 2.5 inch drive.   Upgrade Vista SP2 Home Premium to Win 7 Home Premium on my laptop HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment CTO. (Curiously, the tag indicates p/n RM098AV, while the Info Help & Support from HP system and detection online tool give it as RL675AV). Phase of the upgrade compatibility objected to the pilot of buttons to quick launch, but after several updates to the driver (Device Manager show is now the 4.20.9.00 version), the Win 7 Upgrade software seems to have accepted the it. Now, upgrade keeps the process were reluctant about the "Keyboard Filter" driver. Please help, and if a replacement driver is necessary, detailed instructions for the installation and the removal would be very appreciated!

  There are two types of notifications of compatibility in the compatibility check update Win7 - "HardBlock" and "SoftBlock".

  "HardBlock" - SW MUST be uninstalled before upgrade can continue (or actions that must be taken-as a reboot in some cases). The only option is to cancel the upgrade and take the necessary measures

  "SoftBlock" - SW which might have problems after upgrading and which could be recommended to uninstall. You can continue the upgrade process, even if you have these notifications without no action (the report will be placed on the desktop for once you have upgraded to Win7 you can always use it as a reference for other actions that you might want to take if necessary)

  The "Keyboard Filter" notification is a "SoftBlock" - you can continue the update even if you get this message. In the specific case of the "keyboard" filter (i.e. the pilot button quick launch) - he will be in fact automatically deleted during the upgrade process.

  Once your Win7 upgrade has completed, you can reinstall the quick launch buttons driver.

  There is no upgrade to 64-bit from 32-bit Windows, you must do a clean install. And Yes, 4 gigs only makes sense with 64-bit Windows. You can put the DDR2-800 in there, but it will operate at speed 667 mhz. Don't bother with 64 bit Vista GB Windows 7, is said by the way.

  Maybe you used the memory modules bad.
  As far as I know that you can upgrade memory for max 192 MB
  The 64 MB has been installed in an internal memory and cannot be deleted.

  I have a Tecra A5 that I bought a few years ago and recently it has become quite slow. On the suggestion of a colleague, I rebooted the machine, remove a lot of unused programs and it seems to have improved.

  However, I would like to upgrade the RAM. Currently, the task manager tells me I have 1 GB of available, and I read that the Tecra A5 can handle 2 GB, which seems likely to boost performance.

  However, looking at the manual and at the bottom of the laptop, it only seems to be a slot to expand memory. Looking at websites selling RAM upgrades, there only seems to be 128, 256, 512 and 1024 MB memory upgrades.

  Here's the question. Should I buy two memory upgrades 1 GB (and if so, where did I put the other?)

  This old Tecra is unknown to me, but what I do know, is that all laptops with a RAM slot at the bottom have an another slot memory under the keyboard.

  If you want to have full access to this slot machine, you must remove the keyboard.
