Updates change the resolution

The last two times that installed Windows automatic updates, the next time I used the computer, the resolution was changed to one that is less than the optimum for Windows Vista.  I did a system restore every time to solve the problem, because it was easier than trying to figure out how to reset the resolution.  Why do auto update change my resolution?

To change your display resolution:

1. right click on the desktop and select "personalize".

2. click on "Display settings" at the bottom.

3. in the window that appears, move the slider to change your resolution. If you don't know what you want, try to drag the increment of a cursor at a time and by clicking on 'Apply' at the bottom to try the resolution. Note: If you change the resolution to one that is not supported by your monitor and your screen becomes black or displays an error message, DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING! Wait 15 to 20 seconds and the display will return to a compatible resolution.

Now that you know how to change your resolution, you can feel free to install updates in the future.

Hope this fixes your problems,

Rifdhan

  • zBook 14 - cannot change the resolution of the screen after update

After I installed software updates the portable suggested to me, my screen resolution went suddenly from 1900 x 1200 at 1200 x 720 after reboot and it won't let me change it, not even to a lower resolution. I'm very frustrated, because I need the computer week next for visualization work and I really need the screen works well.

It doesn't let me change the resolution. Graphics and display drivers are up-to-date and functioning according to Device Manager. I did a system restore, but that just do everything worse although the resolution worked once again thing, I had to run a repair of the start several times before that my laptop would be starting another property again. This does not resolve the issue, given that the display drivers are not working properly (videos have been viewed very badly) and even after updating the computer won't start again, so I had made another system of recovery and now I'm to the point where I can not change the resolution and starting to be really frustrating. Also, (if it even starts) Windows is constantly freezing, forcing me to hard reboot.

Thanks for any help, that all the world can offer.

This looks like a lot of problems, you have there.

First thing I would say is to do a check of the basic material. Your laptop will be built Diagnostics the F2 button on the HP logo. The hard drive on a test extended (approximately 45 minutes - 2 hours) and the memory test. If these two go, consider downloading of UEFI diagnoses from the above drivers download section. In all honestly, I think this unnecessary step for most, it tells not usually defects that are already not obvious. But he should have a graphics test, if it will throw a failure even if it is faulty is another matter but when even, of a value of a test.
If all else fails, download on the phone for the HP warranty.

If anything fails, run the memory on memtest86 + for about 12 to 24 hours. Download you, it's free, burn it to a cd and the start of it. And it works simply, in case of error, you have a fault memory.

If anything fails on any diags, then nothing is most likely false, cool reimageries windows probably will solve the problem and its probably just a form of spyware or corruption of driver or something. Backup your data, reinstall a new copy of windows.

But in my experience, from doubtful, repairs etc... freezing randomly and other problems are often a sign of a failing hard drive. And diagnostic tests are not always 100% to pick up a failing drive. For the most part, but not always. So, if its still high reading after a reimage, review the reader always a potential source of the problem.

To the extent where it won't let you change the resolution? What you mean? As for the option is grayed out? Can you maybe post a screenshot and a screenshot of your device with the extended graphics card Manager.

  • By doing a screen shot: if I change the resolution?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to change the resolution of a screen shot when I do one with Windows XP. I want to make a better quality.

I noticed that when I do a screen shot and paste into mspaint or scanners of my image editing program: it might not matter since I can crop and improve the image a bit. But sometimes I need a better shot.

Does anyone know the resolution of XP Home Edition - Vistas Home Premium 64 - bit - screenshots of SP2 or SP3?

Would be the steps, if it takes place, is the same for Vista?

    You are welcome.

Just a reminder... If you increase the resolution of your desktop...
your screenshots could follow suit. (This adjustment
is located at: control panel / display / settings tab /.
Drag the slider to change the resolution) these settings
are limited by your video card driver... you
perhaps already in the maximum position.

FWIW... you can increase the resolution (pixel size) of
all existing (digital photo) screenshot of resizing. If
you use an option called Resampling, the result is a little
    better.

The free software IrfanView has the Resample option.

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

  • changing the resolution of w2408h monitor

    Hi guys,.

Grateful if someone could help me with this problem.

I just bought w2408h monitor. My graphics card is the Radeon 9600.

I hv updated my PC to the latest drivers for my graphics card and the monitor.

    My problem is...

I use my XP Control Panel > display to change the setting 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz

When I turn off the screen (leaving the PC running) and later turn it back on - the monitor goes into auto setting and change the resolution to 800 x 600.

What should I do to stop my monitor to change my resolution deskto?

Thanking you in advance for any help you could give me.

I found the solution - actuallyI attached my monitor for my PC using the cables VGA and DVI times. Somehow, my DVI cable is faulty - then when I turn on my screen and then turn it on again - the monitor starts with a DVI mode. Therefore, the problem. Now that I have removed the DVI cable - it works like a charm.

    Thank you.

  • Change the resolution of the screen and the screen went black

Then I tried to change the resolution of the screen and the screen went black.  I tried to restart, plug in my HDMI port on my TV... Nothing.  So I went with a system refresh (yes I'm sure it was a refresh and not a restore).

The fact that there is no integrated procedure to detect the moment where that happens and return to the old resolution is annoying enough...  But now after that choose the system update and it would be only to reset the settings to default back and keep all the files (as he said it would be), I am extremely frustrated to know that it has deleted ALL my programs.  Program E-v-e-r-y.  This means that Chrome, Firefox, jGrasp, AutoCAD, all my programs Microsoft Office, all my Adobe stuff, my Visual Studio and so much more that I'm not naming.

I REALLY hope there is a place where they were stored so I don't have to reinstall everything manually.  If not, then wow, Microsoft... We finished.

Unfortunately a refresh as he said, only maintains personal records (program data), the data can be located in the "in the"Windows"folder windows.old folder normally C /: Drive, all modern apps should be kept."

All programs of office/legacy (Chrome, Firefox, jGrasp, etc.) need to be relocated from their original sources

Keep all of your programs, personal files (data), settings, the best option is to create a "Disk Image" - see link below for info.

    Hello.
After changing the resolution to 800 x 600 or less (while playing an older game BACK), the screen is reduced to the size of the postcard.
Someone at - it an idea to solve this problem, (another driver display or s.th.)?

    Hi Ralf,.

In my view, there is a setting in the BIOS to force the screen image to stretch to fit the available space.

  • 4 K TV can not change the resolution or refresh rate

When I connect my end of 2013 retina MacBook Pro to a TV 1080 p via HDMI, system preferences port gives me a list of supported resolutions and refresh rate to choose. But when I connect to the laptop even to my new Vizio M43 - C1, it generates a fixed 3840x2160@30Hz and gives me only a handful of options for scaling HiDPI. I want to change frequency to 24 Hz for movies, I do all the time with TVs 1080 p, but I can't find the option anywhere. SwitchResX works, but are there seriously no official way to change the resolution and refresh rate when a 4K TV is connected? Looks like a massive oversight.

    Hello NeilT6,

These 4 k TVs sound incredible. If I had one I would like to than the best resolution, that I could not too.  Have you tried now hold Option key while selecting the display scaling settings?

Use screens 4 K and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac - Apple Support

Pointing your mouse on a resolution options will show more details about this option. To get a button detect displays appear, press the Option key. To see all available resolutions, press Option key while clicking on the button of the chipped.

  • Change the resolution of a project in iMovie 10.1

    Hello

I'm doing a movie with iMovie 10.1 and for some reason any iMovie set my project at 4 K resolution, but I only need 720 p. Is it possible that I can change the resolution of the project? In the project settings, it shows the 4K, but I don't see an option where I change.

    Thanks for your answers...

A draft resolution is defined by the first clip that you put in the timeline.  Create a new project, then put a 720 p clip in the timeline panel.  After that copy and paste all the old project into the new.  You can now delete the first clip if you wish.

    Geoff.

  • How can I change the resolution of my pictures stored in Google Reader?

How can I change the resolution of my pictures stored in Google Reader? I want to have received their approval, but they were taken with a phone and the resolution is not large enough to produce a clear image.

    Hello

You cannot add true / resolution of the details of an image that is not captured when the photo was taken. Photo editing applications can adjust the sharpness, remove noise, etc., but they can't add true / resolution details and results may vary, massively, the photo and the filter/tool used (and configuration for tools).

If you have reduced the resolution of the original image to store it on Google Drive, then I suggest that go back you to the use of the original image (if you still have a copy).

  • My daughter played a game that changed the resolution of the screen on the reboot I see is no longer anything on the screen!

My daughter has tried to play a game of old trails Oregon of a disc. It made him change the resolution to which she did not return to the stop down. Now, to restart, we are unable to see the screen after windows starts. Any suggestions? We are running Windows Vista.

    Hello

Although she has changed the resolution, you should still be able to see a logo when the BIOS boot screen loads. IF this isn't the case then something else happens.

To solve this problem I would boot windows in safe mode, so you can load windows into a default resolution. To do this, when you turn on the PC press, key F8 before Windows loads. (do this as soon as the BIOS screen disappears)

You will be asked to choose from a number of advanced options, is the option you want to select:

Turn on the video resolution (640 x 480)

This will load windows in this resolution, so you can set it manually to your favorite resolution.

Let me know how you go with it.
