  • My computer takes 9 minutes to start when you turn on. Where can I find the system configuration to abandon some of the start up programs that I don't need.

    I said the reason that my computer takes 9 to 15 minutes to complete the commissioning is there are too many programs that start automatically when I turn it on. They said to click on start and type system configuration and deselect some of the programs to start automatically. I typed in the run dialogue box but nothing.  How do I know where to find it and can you tell me which ones I should NEVER disable? Thank you.

    You type: msconfig in the Run dialog box.

    Under the Startup tab disable this you never or rarely use.

    You will always be able to use them whenever you want without going back to msconfig.

    On the Services tab, click Hide all Microsoft Services, and then choose the ones you want to start when you start your computer.

    Your answer was very helpful.  After that three failures l updates finally worked without my intervention.  Updates are KB21585 and KB979538.

    I think Microsoft may have made a few changes to the installation process and it worked finally.  I learned something about the updates and how to check what my system installed that I didn't know before.

  • Why a shortcut for Microsoft Update doesn't appear in the start menu as it always has in previous installations?

    In this latest new installation of Windows XP Pro when I upgraded from Windows Update, Microsoft Update no item does appear in the start menu in previous installations? Can I remove Microsoft Update and then reinstall it? Can I manually install the shortcut? I'm comfortable editing the registry.

    Off topic, I know, but you can work some magic for another problem. When I boot, when half of the icons appear in the notification area, I get a message that Windows Firewall is disabled. After the last icons appear, the message disappears and the firewall turns on again. It's annoying, and I'd love to [repair]. Thank you.

    Assuming that the message "the Windows Firewall is disabled" comes from the Security Center (Windows), looks like you see what we call a "race condition". Essentially, Security Center is loading before the Windows Firewall was fully charged (may be due to the amount of NAV system resources then uses what he loads and runs his own control over the firewall).

    Until the warning goes away in a few minutes, don't worry, you see a normal behavior (for Windows XP).

  • Update of window Vista

    Recently, I did updates for Vista ultimate and vista has restart the computer. During vista startup saying update configuration step 3 complete 0 after a certain time windows stops and goes in this way forever and won't start more

    Please let me know if you have any solution for vista start up and get rid of this update that cause problem

    Remove the Vista updates; two ways to do this:

    1. a System Restore to before the updates:

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > System Restore > restore time/choose your own date > next

    If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

    If it is impossible to enter the Normal Mode, perform a restore of the system safely Mode(which you will have to do in Safe Mode).

    Press F8 at the startup/power and the list of startup options, use THE ARROW key to select Safe mode > and then press ENTER.

    System restore steps according to the info above.

    Also:

    2. click on start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
    When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it
    See you soon.
  • How can I configure windows update in order to start the procedure, when I connect to the school network?
    OT:help configuration of Windows Update.
    I use windows 8, now my problem is that I have to enter a user_name and password each time you start the browser, if you close the browser, or open another browser, you must enter user password again once you use a wifi or lab computers. Now when I connect to wifi, my browser instantly request name username-password but windows update is not so. I tried this a few times, only once named windows update displays dialong box asking username and password and it takes hours to do.
    How can I configure windows update already if start update already when I connect to the school network.
    Wifi authentication which traverse the browser means that you still need to open a browser and a connection that first, before any other programs can access the network.
  • Takes 5 minutes - start Message: Configuring Windows Update 0% complete do not turn off your computer. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit system, works fine, but I get this stupid message whenever I start.
    How can I get rid of this stupid message and have a normal boot.  This took place yesterday, and it's a real pain.  How can I get rid of this.
    I had this problem 2 days in a row. Windows 7 Edition Home Premium. "Automatic updates" not ended and I got the same message on restart and had to wait for it to timeout.
    I tried "manually" update, and that fixed the problem.
    Go to the control panel. Click on system and security. Click on Windows Update and follow the instructions. I selected the updates recommended, installed and rebooted. Problem solved.
    (I have no idea why this problem occurred. In the "Windows Update", I opened the "update history" and saw the 'Impossible' updates, but I don't dig deeper than that.)
    If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
    As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
    It's a very good Vista repair disc.
    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
    There is not a disk of resettlement.
    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
    See you soon.
  • Of updates 3/3 0% complete configuration in Windows Vista
    Hi all
    I have Lenovo running Vista. When I tried to update its deadlock on 3/3 0% complete screen and keeps restarting.
    I have read the forums and create a recovery disk that I had not all discs with me. again it is not booting with the CD
    But even when I change the order of boot priority to boot the CD. (ODD: optiarc DVD RW AD - 7580 s-(PS).)
    now when I press F12 when windows starts, it gives me the possibility of three in the start menu
    ODD: optiarc DVD RW AD - 7580 s-(PS).
    HARD DRIVE: WDC... (H)
    PCI LAN
    Here, looks like I can go up and down to select the boot device, even if I changed the boot priority order in the Setup utility.
    If I select the first (start from CD) still nothing happening... it goes to the same screen and keeps restarting...
    Please help me on this issue.
    Configuration of the laptop: Lenovo Y550 model, Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
    I made the recovery CD disk using software IsoBurner. Does burn on DVD only? or any other reason why it is not picking up the boot CD?
  • Tried to update in Windows Vista Home Premium, stuck in the "Configuring updates" and "reboot" loop 11/05/2011
    Hello! I have a portable M-6752 Gateway under Vista Home Premium.  It was perfectly functional this morning 11/05/2011.  Then I noticed the sign (of exclamation in a circle) who said the new updates.  So I started the update and thought nothing of it.  It was until an hour later and I realize that my laptop was still updated.
    Right now I am stuck in a loop between "Configuring updates: stage 3 of 3-0% complete.»  Do not turn off your computer' and auto restart.
    I tried to restart in 'safe mode' and 'safe mode with network.  These attempts did not help.  I'm still stuck in the loop and my laptop is overheating.  The only thing I could do was to be able to.  Fact that several times already.
    Fortunately, I have another laptop and is able to ask for help.  Can someone help me?  I'm NOT a technical person.  Thank you.
    Thank you, but my laptop WAS running Service Pack 2 when this problem happened.  It has been resolved.  For anyone having this problem, here is my experience and solution.
    When I found myself stuck in a loop and my laptop keeps restarting without giving an error message, it began to overheat.  I turned off.  When I turned on it again the screen "Advanced Boot Options" appeared.  I chose 'Safe Mode'.  Then, I went to "Configuring updates...". ».  Machine started himself reboot again.  It happened a few times.  Finally I had to turn the phone off again.  All of a sudden when I turned on again, the "Windows Error Recovery" screen comes on.  There is a choice, 'Launch Startup Repair'.  I chose this.  Machine asked me if it is allowed to create restore point.  Of course.  Then I GOT!  I was saved by Windows self-diagnosis program.
    If you are not familiar with the screens that I mentioned, please search 'screen name' and the word 'image' as a whole.  You will see what these screens look like.
    Now I realize there is another way to reach the Startup Repair.  When you turn on again, press the F8 key several times.  Which will bring you to the early Startup Options screen.  On advance Boot Options, there is a choice 'repair your computer', scroll down to this choice, press ENTER.
    Turning off my machine during the restart is another way to force the "early start Options" screen appears.
    I read that some do not have the "Repair your computer" option according to your PC in the screen «In advance Startup Options»  You will need to know how to get to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen.
    As a last resort, you can restart Vista recovery disk.  Many manufacturers do not understand that when they send the PC for you.  However, it is available for download for free on the internet.  You can download and make your own within 30 minutes.  I hope this helps!
